OK, so, today was day was day 28 (since Jan. 22, after blowing it starting Jan. 1). Seriously? Can't make it to 30? I drove from my awesome AF weekend with granddaughter to home to a funeral for a precious 40-year-old friend who died in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Still don't know how/why but suspect substances. His husband and daughter are friends and everyone in our small town devastated. Beautiful service. Final speaker quoted a line from Elizabeth Taylor: "Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together." She said that's what he would want us to do. So, (so freaking obedient!) I came home and had a martini. Then 2 glasses of wine. Then a vodka and grapefruit juice. In his honor, of course. I'm not very coherent right now. But I appreciate this group and hope for another chance tomorrow. xoxo.
Today is a brand new day with unlimited possibilities. Be kind to yourself. Move on and say Oh well, yesterday I did my best. But today, my Best will be much better:)
Each day , we do our best but on different days our best may fall short. This philosophy in general is from The Four Agreements, a great book full of wisdom by Miguel Ruiz.6 -
I fell into a bottle of merlot last night. Ended up having an argument with my husband. I feel terrible today and mad at myself. For those of you that know they can't moderate take it from me, it was not worth it. I'll be back to tea today.
I've found that to be my biggest trigger - arguments with my hubby. Hate them! Luckily they don't happen too often.
Don't beat yourself up too much.8 -
For those who plan to imbibe, but moderate, my hubs sent me this:

@donimfp- Big hug to you. Sorry to hear of this tragedy. Do not be too hard on yourself. We all have our struggles. Try to focus on the positive changes you have made. Overall, you are doing great!4

Great article. Thanks for sharing. Every time I read those numbers about how many drinks women should aim to be under, I cringe, especially knowing I have a family history of dementia, breast cancer, and alcoholism. The trifecta of things to be aware of as I try to moderate my intake...

Thanks, y'all. I feel like poop this morning. But guess what? I know I feel like poop. Feeling like poop no longer feels normal. I guess that's something. Those drinks were SO not worth it. Why do that to myself? This is an adventure.8

Dammit! The craving that has been shadowing me for several days won yesterday. Trying not to dwell on it.11

Good morning friends and new faces! 3 days AF and then drank Fri, sat and sun. No real reason why. Ugh! Hope everyone has a pleasant day! I'm off to work....hopefully it is not stressful but planning on just tea tonight10

Cut back over the weekend, but I am aiming for Mon-Fri AF. I can do this!10

Happy Monday all ( what an oxymoron). For those who slipped, make up for it at the gym or with food. Let there be a healthy penalty for your slip. Get on that treadmill6

After boasting of my wonderful AF night on Friday, I messed up big on Saturday. I drank an entire bottle of wine, which is something I have not done since I started this challenge. I think it started from boredom as I was waiting to go out to dinner with my husband. But a lot of things have been compounding on me for some time, so I used this as an excuse to get drunk and let it all pour out on my poor husband. Things needed to be said, but it definitely did not need to happen like that. All is well between us now, but I woke up yesterday with a pounding headache and a heart full of regret. *sigh* It's all part of the journey I suppose. Complete freedom from alcohol is looking more and more likely.12

I need to join this group. Red wIne and weekend Margaritas are my weakness.9

Looking forward to a dry week. With birthday parties and the long weekend I strung together too many consecutive drinking days. I didn’t overindulge at all, but definitely need more dry days! Here’s to accountability4

My heart goes out to everyone that had what they consider relapses in the past few days. I know the feeling of putting all your effort and strength into being good with your alcohol consumption...and then....PROOF...a WTH moment that was not meant to happen.
If any of us were perfect we would not be here. So pick yourselves up and dust yourselves off. We are all in this together.15 -
I had a bad Saturday of binge drinking, smoking and bad eating!!! I wasn't going to post but then I thought maybe it will help to post it acknowledge it and move on!17

I am excited to say that I cut my normal weekend drinking down drastically. My goal is to be AF all week then drink on weekends. A few weekends ago I really over did it and wondered "why". I felt so tired and icky. This Friday only 1 glass of wine, nothing on Saturday and 1 glass Sunday. Maybe this weekend will be AF.
Best of luck everyone10 -
@JulieAL1969 - I love your sister's philosophy. I tend to be an all or nothing person, and that's caused problems with my losing weight in the past. I think you're so right about taking pressure off. You haven't failed if you have a drink once in awhile, at least that's my point of view. The idea that you "can't" have one I think almost makes them more attractive and gives the idea more power.4
