Gravity can't work in a square?

Sorry I should've been more specific. Anything as large as Earth (and larger) in space will have it's own gravitational pull and form a sphere because its the only shape that allows every point on it's surface to be the same distance from the center.

Explain mountains then?

If tectonic plates weren't converging or pushing mountains up then over time they'd be leveled. Sometimes they grow due to being pushed up and sometimes they shrink due to gravity and/or erosion.

Ok, then explain magnets.
