Up at 7am and out before 8 to drive to town for cash then shop at the supermarket which was wonderfully quiet. Last day of school Easter break so I’m guessing parents are stuck at home. On my way I passed neighbour Graham waiting for the removal van so I checked if they would be gone by midday when George’s groomer was booked to arrive. He thought so and I drove on and into town. I was horrified at more price increases but did indulge in English asparagus which is twice the price of stalks coming all the way from Peru but worth it for the flavour. The removal van had arrived when I got home so I parked outside a property whose owners don’t drive and carried 2 heavy bags down our track.
George’s groomer arrived at midday and I explained about him eating so much grass and being sick so she was extra gentle with him as he was clipped to receive a short back and sides! After that back into town to buy a garden seat to place under the cherry tree next to the new veggie plot and collect pet treatment from the vet, followed by a short walk and home. The new neighbours in Graham and Polly’s abandoned bungalow had just arrived so I met Paul, Tilly their semi blind and deaf Spaniel and the lady of the house whose name I’ve forgotten but could be Laticia or Lucinda… I’m terrible with names of humans! A very friendly couple who already want to pick my brains about local walks.
Sandy, the harness for the hens did make me laugh and they look similar to the ones George and Betty wear in the car as doggy seatbelts! If Lupin keeps jumping on Storm to stop her eating I might just take her for a walk!!
Lin, the picture of the Queen’s hats was fascinating and I did my best to date them by style. She looks a lot like Princess Margaret in a couple. The herbs are interesting because I remember our kitchen window sill in the house I grew up in always had a sprig of mint in water to keep flies out, not basil. Marigolds are popular for companion planting next to tomato plants to keep aphids at bay but I know Cat mint wouldn’t last 5 minutes with Brady!
I had a disturbed night for some reason and am now yawning so I’ll prepare my evening meal of cold chicken salad and coleslaw then try not to fall asleep until bedtime.

Happy Friday! Doing laundry until my nail appointment at one and then will come home and finish.
Babe staying home today as he is dizzy so I don't have to pick him up and drive him home. Bryanna is coming tomorrow to do my hair and since it is going to be 80 I may sit on my balcony and get some sun.
I also plan on going to confession and then Mass with Babe and Cheryl. Sunday I will pack which is easy peasy for three days since we all wear matching shirts on all three days. Yes, we are goofy.
Hmm, I may have to plant some peppermint and lavender in a planter to keep those nasty things away.

Hello, Earth Day is over. I wanted to shop at the local nursery today to see what plants they had in stock but it rained, and poured, and poured. The sun came out late this afternoon. My sump pump is chugging along and it got quite warm. Stay tuned, storms expected at some point tomorrow. And colder next week. It is going to be a late spring this year.
I spent quite a while on the phone with a friend again this afternoon. It was very nice. Some ladies asked her to join their weekly coffee group and I was surprised, she joined them. I am teetering on the edge of wanting to go out more. I am sure I can talk myself out of it. 😂
Jackie, I looked for that photo of the hats and the associated text that I saw yesterday. It seems to have disappeared. They said all the photos were of the Queen but I see that some really do not look like her. Sorry, now I really do not know. She is one long lived lady. I hope you had a good afternoon. Glad George got his grooming and hope his tummy has calmed down.
Sandy, busy again but good to hear the packing will not take quite so much effort since you have matching shirts. Love it! I have seen photos of those chicken harnesses before but I know that I would not want to be the person putting a harness on a chicken! 😂

Since we begin with a British theme, today is England’s St George’s day so I must wish Anne a happy one. Wave the flag girl!!
It’s a lazy start for me, 1030 and only now finishing breakfast. My weight is all over the place and I’ve apparently gained a couple of pounds so must get back to a routine of drinking more water!
The sun is trying to shine so I’ll see how far we get on our doggy walk.

HAPPY ST GEORGES DAY TO YOU JACKIE. Will you be dancing around a maypole on the village green? Wish I was but I am terribly stiff after being in the garden all yesterday afternoon! Mark pruned the back applet tree and another tree and after all the branches were tied up for the garden waste we all tackled the garden itself, with half of the day lilies now gone to be hopefully replaced with tomato plants etc. I think I will be too stiff still to tackle the remaining lilies today. Tottered off to bed early, me and the Bean, and we've only just got up at 7:30am.
She's gone back to bed after eating her breakfast! Too much sun and a very warm back garden. We just aren't used to it after snow last week.

Happy Saturday! Bryanna came at ten and now my hair is done for my trip. A little color on top to brighten it up and a trim. I am good to go.
Not sure if Babe is coming over as he was feeling dizzy this morning. I have a family zoom call at 2:00 so if he does it will be after that.
It is a beautiful day here with temps going into the 80's. I probably won't sit in the sun as I will take a shower and get ready for my zoom call so no sense it getting all sweaty after that especially since I will be going to Florida in a couple of weeks.
Anne, sounds like you are worn out from you busy gardening day. Take a day to relax so you don't burn yourself out. Even Jilly is tired.
Jackie, Happy St. George's Day to you and Anne. Is this a national holiday? It was a lazy day for me as well as I slept in until 10:00. I had a very restless night though so was glad I finally got some sleep.
I hope George is feeling better and you all enjoyed your walk.
Lin, nice collage of the Queens hats. After watching the crown which started with the queen being so young until her later years, I can just imagine all the hats she has worn. I will do my packing tomorrow so my clothes don't get too wrinkled. I hope your day is as wonderful as ours.

Hello dearest sneakers! We also have a beautiful diary day. Some high clouds drifting around but I don’t see anything but a sprinkle maybe.
John and I got our booster yesterday. Damon got his from the nurses station at the film shoot. They are amazingly careful. A full-on TV shoot requires a multi-faceted crew of at least 200. They all wear masks and are tested daily at the nurses station. Only the actors and directors go without masks and they stay in a special area of the shoot. Interesting stories of TV production and life of film producers.
Damon is doing a couple of little tasks that we do not want John to attempt. Replacing a burnt out light bulb in a very high back entry area. It requires a tall ladder. Damon replaced it and wants to replace the light fixture itself to a more accommodating place on the wall. Good idea! John, of course, is not so sure! Change….we all know how evil that is!
Our garden and decks are a fright. Again this is something that we are in a constant negotiation with our dear John. At 83 he has no idea that he has aged and needs to gear back a little bit. The dearest old sweetheart just trundles on doing his best. He is still boss of his kingdom. Damon says it is important that remains his title and job description. This is a huge property with wooded acres and some grassy lawn areas and flower beds. Not an easy place to maintain. Also a big older house. Whew! We should have moved years ago. Too late now and Damon thinks it is so important for his dad to stay here. As we all know, I am hopeless at maintenance. I am also trundling along, doing my best!
When we leave Katie home and go on errands that she cannot come along, she really gets anxious. She is so delighted to see us when we return. But then comes our punishment. She turns her back to us and refuses to look at us or come when called. It takes at least a couple of hours for us to make up. Actually we know who is really in control. It isn’t us!
Are your ears ringing? I have told Damon about you all and about your news.

Happy Saturday friends. The weather here is unsettled, heavy rain, then it stops, sun is out for a little while, then overcast and very strong winds. I hope no severe weather rolls in later. I started a bit of cleaning and sorting out in a kitchen cupboard. Oh my goodness. Not a quick chore. I wish I could just scoop everything out into a trash bag and wave it good-bye!
Patsy, I hope all of your time with Damon is extremely enjoyable. And that lots of little things are taken care of. 💐💐
Sandy, all fixed up and ready to go to the casino. I bet your hair is gorgeous. Babe has a lot of days with dizziness that must be very I comfortable for him.
Jackie and Anne, I know nada about St. George’s Day. But one odd thing, I received an email early this morning highlighting a new recommendation for a book to purchase and yes, it was all about St. George. So is it a happy Monday holiday coming up since today is Saturday?
Just going to keep puddling along here.

St George’s day used to be a religious feast of St George day I think, after an important monk, way back when, decided he was the sort of patron saint for England to adopt because he spoke out for Christians when the Romans treated them badly. He’s not ours alone because he was born in Turkey. Georgia and a couple of other old kingdoms also celebrate his life but it’s the one day we English are allowed to be patriotic, rather like St Patrick’s day in Ireland but with pints of beer in pubs rather than Guinness!
A cold wind continues to spoil our sunny days but wrapped up I took George and Betty up on the top moor overlooking the village and although I thought George might feel the cold now his winter coat has come off, he ran about like a puppy and even persuaded Betty to do a couple of zoomies! He’s definitely feeling better. On the way home I stopped off at my friends with the horses to talk “manure” but Richard was outside walking young Bonnie their crazy Labrador pup and still struggling on 2 walking sticks and as it turned out he and Christine were about to visit the vaccination clinic for a 2nd booster, I told him I will phone to arrange another time but obviously I will fill and carry the bags. That 5 bar gate really didn’t do him any favours clouting him like that!
Apart from rearranging my greenhouse to make more room for seed trays and continuing to tidy up my Winter pile of things to possibly be thrown out, that was my afternoon.
Sandy, 80 degrees sounds wonderful while our Scandinavian cold blast persists but in reality it would soon have me hiding under the parasol so I’ll let you keep it!
Patsy, did you scare off the lawn man that visited to look at what was needed? The good news is John didn’t attempt to replace the bulb in the high ceiling so in a strange way, that’s a small step forward in him accepting not to climb ladders. I’m full of energy in my garden these days after hip replacements but am aware, now I’m 73, it can’t last forever. Will I move? Nah!!
No Bank holiday Monday Lin for St George although there were calls to introduce it after we came out of the EU. Too political and non PC was the decision! Kitchen cupboards are a nightmare to tidy but thankfully I blasted mine once the builders finally left me in peace but with layers of cement dust on every surface in the cottage! Wow to the stunning teapot!
Anne, did you go back to bed with Jilly? I’m familiar with that next day aching from gardening feeling but it’s also satisfying after a job well done. Yippee, you will be joining the tomato growing group. A shame I can’t offer you a few of my spare seedlings!
Gone midnight and Betty is checking the toy box for which bunny or bear to take to bed so I’d better follow her lead.

Morning all, it promises to be a gorgeous day here so on with the ancient pants and shirt and I hope to be tackling those pesky lilies by lunchtime. A day off has me feeling all Gung Ho [MFP hasn't heard of Gung Ho and keeps changing it to hung over] again.
I seem to remember St Georges day was the day all the churches put up the white and Red Cross flag of England JACKIE. Do they still do that? Ah, "England, despite all thy faults I love thee still". Did I mention earlier [don't want to go back and look!!!!] that April 23rd is also Bill Shakespeares birthday? The memory is going girls! Apologies if so, and after all, its still early. So glad your little boy is feeling better Jackie.
Damon haring up ladders PATSY! Oh to be young and nimble. Mind you I can't see my son and heir happily climbing a ladder, but the younger, Mark, was up a ladder pruning the trees. Mike is recovering from his battle with Corvid and should be back at work tomorrow. I'm glad John is realizing sons can be very useful when it come to changing light bulbs. As for your wild plot Patsy. See it differently dear. Explain you are helping Mother Nature by having a wild garden. The self named witch I knew years ago did just that in the middle of town where her "garden" flourished. Used certain weeds for portions. The neighbours complained but she just put a potion on their doorstep, incanted a spell, and was full of glee when one long suffering chaps window mysteriously broke.[?] Kept a crow with a broken wing in her LR. She's long gone, and mores the pity because we need characters to frustrate or liven us up.
LIN is diving bravely into the depths of kitchen cupboards and SANDY preparing for a casino trip I must say we are one group of active ladies wherever our interests lie.
Well I had better shuffle off and trim my wild fly-away hair before I see the Doc again on Wednesday. Down to 4 pills now and to get the blood work results.

Happy Sunday lovely friends. A cold and wet start in Cornwall and after seeing a forecast that promised drier weather and waiting a couple of hours, decided we needed to get going. As soon as I took George’s raincoat out of the drawer he hid away so off we set and in no time he was looking soaked and fed up (so was I!). I’ve been watching a women’s rugby match between England and Ireland and as it finishes, the sun is finally shining. The ground might be too wet to do much outside but I’ve a couple of small paint touching up jobs to finish indoors so enough sitting, I’ll get on.
Enjoy your time with Damon Patsy and Anne with your Day Lilies!

Then Lin, an online church service today? It’s not easy to relax about socialising indoors without a mask but so far the few places I’ve visited for coffee or lunch have continued to keep tables well apart. I will have to decide on Friday if I want to go to Chrissie’s tea and cakes gathering in a pub after her funeral service in a local bluebell wood. I’ll check out the congregation to see if they appear sensible!!

Good morning. Online church starts soon so just a note. We did have very strong winds and storms last night with siren warning after siren warning. It is sunny today but still quite windy. I think perhaps we are expecting a few days without rain and then the second half of the week wet again. Right now, the ground is completely soaked which is not good for farmers and/or gardeners. Sump pumps are chugging along in the metro.
While I had a great gardening year last year, I don’t have quite the same expectations this year. A number of tomato seeds did not germinate and several seedlings wilted upon emergence. Not good signs and this is still in the house! I am going to replant the little peat pellets that didn’t produce a seedling later today.
Tomorrow, I hope to go to the store to hunt for some little containers to put in several cabinets to better organize things. I need to take some measurements today. I don’t want to have to return things that I purchase.

Happy Sunday! Just finished watching Mass on TV. Babe called to say he is still dizzy so he is staying home today. That's okay with me as I have to iron some tops and pack for my trip. I will call Joe today as he probably feels I have abandoned him. I will make a point of visiting him soon. We are expecting rain on and off but although the temps are going to drop once again at least no rain for the rest of the week. (so far)
Jackie, that George is a character, he should be Charlie's dog because she is a character too. I hope you enjoyed your rugby match and got your touch up work done. Once I have time I will make an appointment with a neurologist to see if there is anything that can be done to help Babe with his autoimmune disease. It has been years since he was checked and medicine is improving everyday.
Anne, with us all keeping busy in one way or another I think that is why we are all sort of healthy. Of course Jackie I think is our baby at 71. (Anyone younger I apologize) Enjoy your beautiful day ours has turned for the worst. Good luck at the doctor on Wednesday.
Lin, Babe is dizzy daily but some days are better than others. There are things he can do to help such as drink lots of water and increase his salt. Also wear compression stockings and when getting up do it slowly. I will try and make sure he does all this when living here. I also think there is a medicine he can take to control this disease so hopefully we will find out. Cleaning out cabinets and/or closets is the worst. Takes so much time and effort but then again I am lazy. lol Beautiful teapot.
Patsy, I can almost see the smile on your face with Damon there helping with different projects. He knows his dad well and knows not to step on his toes. Enjoy your time together and keep smiling.

Don't think the day lilies will enjoy their time with me! However they might get a reprieve, it's still rather nippy here in the colony. Like you I'm debating. Jilly HAS decided, she's gone back for a nap.
Probably not a sensible congregation if mourners are gathering in a dark and damp bluebell wood for a funeral service in rainy end of April. You are much braver than me! because after listening to Mike hacking away and trying to talk with a sore throat I'd give it a miss, but of course that's cowardy me. Wait and see I guess. The warm village church would have been nice if filled with bluebells and then a short stroll to the village pub.
I've just been reading about a Portuguese lady in the 14th Century, her name was Ines del Castro and after being very much loved by the King she came to a tragic end after which the story becomes more and more bizarre. I'm sure you all know the story but if not its on wikipedia and rather horrifying.

I've just had a shock, I've found SANDY and LIN before me. I thought I was after JACKIE and I'm beginning to wonder how many posts I've missed in the past.
I ended up gardening after all. Went out in a heavy polo neck sweater which was soon discarded because of the heat! I managed to dig up a whole load of weeds and a few day lilies. Slowly but surely because I am pacing myself, I am getting there with a nice empty border for veggies. I can only manage about 1 hour of heavy fork work which is so annoying when I think only a decade ago I could be cheerfully out all day. LOVE getting mucky! I think we have rain tomorrow, annoying whilst I am in the mood. The dear lady next door who is 76 was behind the fence and singing in rather a nice voice. In a foreign tongue of course. Jilly was very naughty because she joined in, barking, until told to put a sock in it, or for those not familiar with that expression, "shut up Jilly".
Anyway I finally staggered in for an Advil because the back was a-creaking and a-groaning but I'm itching to get out again.
So ends Sunday with a discussion with Mary Jo on what seeds I would like from her vast collection. Mm, you know I really love beets and especially so after they were so successful in the container, but wouldn't you guess, beets she doesn't think she has.
Kale yes, being Portuguese she loves kale, YEUK. Cooks it in olive oil and lemon juice.
