Food to drink split

I know when dieting you shouldn't have under 1200 calories. But is there a certain percent of that that should be food and how much should be drinks. I know you should drink mainly water but I do like my squash (sugar free) and if I go out with friends I'll have a beverage or two. I just want to make sure I'm EATING enough. Because sometimes when I'm low I'll top it up with drinks.

Whatever fits into your day so you hit your marco (and micro) nutrients. Personally, I drink lots and lots of water, but some days I'll have 2-3 cups of whole milk and a cup of wine. It just has to fit YOUR day.0

It's up to you, but I used to eat less when I was trying to save room for drinks and it didn't work for me. I would eat 1000 calories and have a soda or beer for the last 200-300 calories and I felt like crap. I think as log as you meet your macros with food you should be good.0

Eat all the food, drink water.0

I drink water, one maybe two cups of almond milk a day, and sometimes alcohol on the weekends. Sometimes I make a green smoothie in the mornings as part of my breakfast but that's just spinach and water and flax seed and a banana. Man does that fill you up.
Definitely try to eat most of your calories. I've heard chewing is stimulating to the brain or something like that. I definitely feel more satisfied after eating than drinking a bunch of calories.0 -
I rarely drink my calories. Before joining MFP, the only time I would drink calories was when drinking alcohol or drinking milk. I don't really drink milk anymore (at least not while in a deficit) and I rarely drink alcohol now. I do sometimes do a protein shake but I don't really like drinking protein anymore, so I usually reserve it for baking purposes.0

I don't drink alcohol. I have no desire to put poisons in my body. But I do drink Gatorade when I go on a longer bicycle ride and I'll sometimes drink milk. Overall, I would say that between 5% and 20% of my calories are liquid on any given day.0

I'd say it depends what you're drinking. 1200 calories is pretty low, so it's important to get as much nutritional bang for your buck as you can. If you want to have a glass of wine or a small pop you could probably fit it in, but if you waste half of your caloric allowance on beverages with no vitamins or minerals, it would be hard to meet your RDAs. Juice or milk might be a better option, but it wouldn't be very filling.
Unless you have a naturally small appetite, and are drinking nutrient dense drinks, I'd say save most of those calories for solid food.0 -
I drink about 8-10 calories a day. A couple cups of black coffee ("I like mah coffee like I like mah men, ground up and in tha freezah!") a couple cups of green tea, and water. I'm not going to waste calories on something when I could totally chew and nosh on.0
