Is someone who's lost lots of weight beautiful?

Does it mean fat is ugly? I know I FEEL ugly being fat, but why do we reaffirm that this is more attractive?

One of my least favorite compliments I've received since losing weight is "Now that you're pretty."

Because it makes them feel good about making a change for themselves that has definitive, measurable benefits to their health. Because the fact that they're choosing to be at a healthy weight indicates they're trying to make healthier life choices in general, and being positive about that is a good way to encourage it.

Also. . . in to watch how quickly this escalates.

The only thing "ugly" on a person, regardless of weight is their personality; attitude about themselves; others & life.
    * In the negative, rude sense

In some cultures and at some times in history "fat" meant "healthy, well to do, high social standing because they can afford a lot of food" and skinny meant " starving, poor, bad health, low social status". Even today there are places where plump is preferred, generally for the same reasons. There is no absolute answer to this question, it's so subjective.
