Do you care at all a product is misleading you? It's a little thing right?

Months ago I saw this product..in the HFS..supposedly a 'better' more pure mayo…the packaging is very plain and simple, shows an EGG..but there is absolutely no egg in the product..it is all canola oil. ( they pretend to be a small eco-aware planet loving company)

So I emailed to them and did some research.

They are being sued for this by Hellman's ( Dec 2014)… and I totally agree with the logic.

You CAN'T show a visual to mislead the customer… most people expect mayonnaise to have eggs…but most brands have ZERO…so for this company to show this logo is patently misleading. by FDA law you can't say mayonaise without egg..but they go around with this logo.

Lawsuit Could Force Upstart Condiment Brand to Hold the ‘Mayo’

Their SNARKY answer is they are not "SAYING it's mayonnaise..it is "just Mayo" …oh really?

So little respect for the customer you have to be deceptive??? I have 40 years of marketing under my belt, this is absolutely the wrong way to treat their customer's trust. True there are 90 minor brands being sold, and one can JUST READ the ingredients…. but showing an EGG where there is none for 100 miles IN the product is plain wrong. Their attitude is so poor too.

I let the manager know that 17,534 Low Carbers do consume a lot of "Mayo"..and might not appreciate being mislead. ..see the link.

PS of course the eco-groovey crowd is DEFENDING this lie, telling Hellmans, THEY are the bully…hahahahaah….right, down the drain we go when being PC is better than the TRUTH for customers.

This is the answer I got from their PR flack

It is an important thing if you are following a specific diet. But then usually people following specific diets are reading the labels. If I saw this product on the shelf, the fact that it has eggs or not wouldn't matter to me, I wouldn't buy it because it says it has 1 gram carbs, whereas Hellmans or other store brand mayos have 0 grams.

I have made my own mayo once. The second batch flopped, and I haven't tried again. I was using Duke's brand because it seemed to have the least offensive ingredients list I could find on my local shelf!
