    Take a look at The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance by Dr's Phinney and Volek. They address this topic quite well. I think they have great credence because in addition to their research they also live this lifestyle.

    The upshot being that you do NOT need to carbo load for your exercise. Personally, this is my experience also although I am no where near an elite athlete. I have found that since I've become fat adapted there is no more "bonking" when my sugar stores run out.
