@skippygirlsmom Awesome running! and I need a shirt like that!1

It seems as though I miscalculated my running plan mileage, and I will probably come up a little short of my 50 mile goal for the month.
Yesterday's five miles was the best run I've had in months. I ran the first half on a very hilly section of my "village" and the second half was my usual loop through the cemetery and back home. I think the cooler weather (high 70s F) with less humidity played an important in my good run. It's actually a relief to know that it's the weather that has been making me feel so crappy running and not my running abilities. Also, after last night, I am officially finished 25% of my half training plan.

@skippygirlsmom - That is exactly how I am feeling today. I skipped my run this morning and did yoga instead because I was feeling stiff and tired. Now I have to run in 91F heat this evening. Hoping for a slow and easy run and a good night's sleep!1

Trying to figure out how I'm going to run this weekend when it's supposed to be in the mid 90s. There is an indoor track in my area that would charge $5 for me to use it. That's a possibility. Or I can just suck it up and brave the heat (just go later in the day when there's not a lot of direct sun) and make it a short run. I'm not particularly thrilled about the idea of overheating, so I'll probably try the track.
Edit: OR I can try to get up early and beat the heat. But that's about as likely as... something that's not very likely.4 -
@RespectTheKitty: That is so awesome! Congrats on your sub 40:00 5K. It looks like you're well on your way to a sub 35:00 soon!
Re: Beat the Blerch Half: I was soooo sad last year that I was running the Dogfish Head Dash in Delaware the same weekend as the Beat the Blerch Half in New Jersey. My only consolation was that it was a priority for this year. Little did I know that it would be changing cities. I am still devastated. I thought about doing the virtual race, but I'm really not a virtual race kind of person. I want cake, and blerchs, and couches, and, most of all, I want Matthew Inman! I suppose I can arrange for the first three things on my own - drag my couch outside my house, leave cake along my course for myself, and make someone with pillows strapped to themselves chase me or something, but I highly doubt Matt would come to middle-of-nowhere Pennsylvania to run with me. I absolutely love that man and everything he does. I think I might need to travel for one next year. I would prefer to not let three years pass me by without participating.
@skippygirlsmom: That's interesting about the iPod. I'm glad you got it working! Something similar happened a few years ago to my boyfriend's early generation iPod. It stopped working, so he went out and got a new one. One day, he picked it up and pressed the button for some reason, and it magically started up and has worked ever since. Technology. Go figure.1 -

Very much not. It literally takes me about two hours to get up in the morning. Without an alarm (set two hours before I have to wake up and even then I am frequently running late), I can sleep until 1 pm. My body just really likes sleep.2 -

We are quite the humorous bunch today...lots of laughing!

Well, I'm a moron. I went down to the gym to use a treadmill over lunch and get another run in. Of course, they're all taken (again) because it's hot outside. So, me not being a total wimp, I decided to just bite the bullet and run outside--last time, I waited like 20 minutes on the elliptical (aka the bane of my existence) for a treadmill to open up, and I wasn't doing that again.
Anyway, it's currently 99 degrees (F, obviously) with a heat index of 111F (37C with heat index to 44C). And I am not the least bit acclimated to the heat, given my surgical healing adventures. I did great for about the first 1.25 miles. Average pace was a nice, steady 12:30/mile. But it was all downhill from there. LOTS of walking, short little bursts of running, a stop at the lone water fountain on my route (where the water was lukewarm at best). I played it smart and survived. There was only one point where I wanted to just sit down and die (walking up a steep hill to get back into downtown), but there was no shade around, so I kept going.
My overall average pace was something like 15:30/mile for 3.5 miles total. But I only ran 2.25 of that, so that 2.25 is what I'm counting.
That puts me at 5.75 miles for the month.6 -
@ceciliaslater
I honestly do not know how you guys run once the sun comes up in the summer. I got out of bed at 4 am the other day to beat the heat. I've only done 1 evening run the past 2-3 months and it was easily the worst run of recent memory. Once it gets to about 81-82 degrees in the morning I want to puke.2 -
@5512bf I'm with you on that one. I'm always up early to beat the heat.2

@ddmom0811 Thanks...he's finished 3 months of chemo, tolerating it well, and has a full body petscan this week to see if all those nasties have shrunk any. We are cautiously optomistic
@Stoshew71 glad you got everyone out (and safe) quickly!
@RespectTheKitty @shanaber and I both did the SHEPower virtual half (I think someone else on here also signed up)...they have numerous virtuals at all lengths (but not for charity). The Rock n Roll Marathons series is also doing a set of virtual 5ks "making the band"...I just finished the 2nd in the series today.
Upcoming races:
SHEPower Virtual Half: July 18
Las Vegas RocknRoll Virtual 5k runs--making the band

......Drum Solo 7/21 3.30

@ceciliaslater Hey, at least you tried! This heat is crazy. We're supposed to be at 99 tomorrow and I'm sure the heat index will be well over that. It's currently 92 feels like 101.
@karllundy Way to go on your run!
@RespectTheKitty I seriously used to be just like you. I felt like I could never sleep enough. 12 hours a night was standard. Then I got on some medication at one point that made me want to sleep even MORE. At that point on the weekends I'd sleep like 20 out of 24 hours. Then I became an overnight full-time parent to my stepson (now adopted) and he started school at 7:30am :-o Somehow I adapted and started getting up at 5:45am to cook breakfast for the whole family even though I didn't have to be at work until much later. I really think you get used to it if something forces you, but I still will often take a 4 hour nap on the weekend to catch up :-D
@HonuNui Beautiful pic!
Everyone be careful in this heat!1 -

I can understand the body liking sleep, I love it also, just the opposite end of the spectrum of you.0 -
