Fighting the urge to fall asleep due to insomnia I've had for three weeks. Sad thing is, once bed time comes around, either my brain will activate and not allow me to sleep or my husband will snore and keep me up or the cats will decide bed time is the perfect time to practice making thunder noises between our room and the computer room.

    I just can't win.

Then you should sleep whenever u can.. it will help you to relax!

If I sleep whenever I can, it messes up my actual sleep schedule more. IE. I'd be awake at 2AM because I "napped" for 5 hours earlier.

Sometimes I catch an hour nap, but most of the time, no.

Insomnia is a difficult thing to handle.. I’m sure there must some techniques to handle it.

There are; they just don't always work. Mine's related to the "fight or flight" response from general anxiety, so that usually means blocking out all sound in any way possible and blocking out light. Melatonin sometimes helps, but it's really blocking out sounds (for me) that does it. Some days that's easier than others. :)

My boyfriend is on clonidine for that anxiety response. It helps that. Also helpful are edibles, I understand.

I've not heard of Clonidine before, but I've been on other anti-anxiety meds before. They helped, but I really disliked their side-effects and didn't feel it was worth it (one I couldn't breathe well at all, so that was a big giant NO for me). The edibles one, sadly I can't do because my spouse is military. It could get him in trouble job-wise. :(

Otherwise, I would totally try them out.

You never know; in our lifetime they may yet legalize it federally and make it like alcohol. (shrug)

So today I've gone ahead and made the saag, which Boyfriend and Girlfriend tried and said was good, and made the onion pakora. I still have the kheer to do, but if I don't get it done tonight it can be done tomorrow. I do want to get a batch of cornbread made, so that we can have cornbread muffins tomorrow and I can use some to make cornbread dressing to go with the chicken on Wednesday night. I make the stuffing in muffin cups to portion it, because as far as my appetite goes the entire pan of stuffing is a good portion, lol.

I have a lot of dishes to do, but I'm pretty tired. I'm going to sit for a bit and see if I recover any energy. It would be nice to wake up to a clean kitchen.

I wanna come to your house for dinner. That all sounds delicious.

On legalization: I've been hopeful since around 2012 that it would become a national thing and I think we're progressing (slowly, but still progress is progress). The sad thing is: the military is woefully behind. Even if they legalize it and even if it is 100% approved as a medicinal supplement to conventional medication, the U.S. military will drag its feet for YEARS over it. Then you gotta deal with Tricare recognizing it as a legitimate supplement to any medical issues a person might have, etc. That is gonna be a slow beast to topple.

The big dinner is on Thursday night, which is my birthday.

It works out for me to be not so much awful work; I have the biryani to make, but since I am using a jarred sauce instead of making my own masala, that will help a lot. In terms of work, it's more like making a lasagna with jarred sauce; I'll have to pay attention while assembling it, but once it goes in the oven, it's just a matter of making sure it doesn't burn. The kebabs for Boyfriend I'll do a day ahead and rewarm that day, and I'm doing something similar with rewarming the fried things (samosas and pakora) So the only other thing I have to do the day of is to make the garlic naan, and I'm good with bread.

I got most of the dishes done, but they have to dry before I can do the metal work bowls and the glasses and plastic containers. So I'll sit for a bit and read a book, and then do the cornbread, clean that up, do the remaining dishes, and call it a night.

Eating my breakfast; realizing I probably should incorporate you know, actual vegetables into it or something.

Ever since I went through pregnancy, getting some toasted bread down is about as good as it gets for me.

Rewriting every happy Christmas song and turning it into the 2020 version of sadness.

I'm dreaming of a black Christmas.
    Rudolph the runny nose reindeer.
    Please stay home for Christmas.
I saw mommy kissing no one.
It's beginning to feel a lot like rona.
    You're a relatatable one MR.Grnch
Grandma got rona from the reindeer.
If you deck my halls *kitten* I'll deck you!.

    :joy: Accurate.

Just cancelled our flights to MN for Christmas. Absolutely heart broken that we won't be home for Christmas.

We all aren't getting together. We're all pretty local (within an hour's drive) but my sister's husband has been having some health issues, and what with COVID peaking around here... it's just better that we don't. This is the first time in 49 years that I haven't gone to my mother's house for Christmas. It leaves me very sad.
