Debbie - our YMCA has a great program called wet vet. The wheelchair vets are hoisted into the pool for swimming. Maybe your Y has it also. If not, maybe they will start one. I can connect you with the coup,exhort started it here.

I feeeel goood, sooooo good..dodadadado. Well okay so I can't sing,lucky for y'all ya can't hear me. Beaaauuutiful day here. Went for a nice brisk walk first thing, then hopped in the pool for 46 minutes of water aerobics. Haven't been in a pool since I had shingles last December. No one else was there so I had the pool to myself and I "did my thang". Told Jack I wanna live here. Lol

Glo – I have not had any problems getting on this site today; but, yesterday … 10/21/16 – it was awful … I could get to the ‘food’ and ‘exercising’ part; even to where I keep up with my weight and %s; but, could NOT get to the ‘community’ at all. Kept telling me I was not connected to the Internet. That could not have been possible; because I got on other things, such as my ‘technical support’ who tried to get on it from his end. Got the same message; and, told me to try again later. Not until much later was I able to do so.


Mary from Minnesota – Babies were beautiful. You do have to get them wearing sunglasses when they are really young, or else they’ll pull them off, defeating the purpose for them in the first place. I know you are the ‘step-grandmother’; but you and DH looked so ‘pleased’ to be able to go to visit them. Hope his DD will continue letting you into their lives from here-on out.


Charleen – GREAT NSV!!! The jeans I have on today, are a bit baggy on me; but, I was outside re-potting several of my plants. DH drilled holes into a couple of pots that I was planting 4 sides of them in. Now, they can drain the extra water; and, maybe won’t die from overwatering them. I usually only water them once a week. I’ve brought in several of my plants into the porch. Still waiting for the darn door to be put up! If it doesn’t get put up before the 1st frost, DH will have to cover it again with heavy duty plastic.


Cheri and Sharon – My late/former boss had to have them every 6 months to a year (because his mother died from colon cancer). I remember one of the last times I saw him at the office, it was a Thursday; he was ‘so yellow’ and when he said he was going to return on Friday to hold court; I told him “I don’t think so.” He actually never returned to work but a few days before having to ‘go out on a medical leave’ right before he was going to retire after 20 years on the bench. But, that is not what killed him, he had liver failure but was not a candidate for a transplant because he had a ‘heart murmur’ as a child and they could still hear it. That is still a horrible way to die; he was so thin when he had a reception that was given by all the attorneys in town. He thanked everybody he had worked for and his wife for being so strong in taking care of him. Then, he looked over at me; and I had had to go out on a ‘medical leave’ about 15 years before; and he said, ‘now he understood why I was so upset about having to do so’. And I really did. He had been such a ‘great boss’. He was so fair in his rulings and he was such a fun person to work with because he had such a great sense of humor.

He did a lot of things to make the people comfortable in court. He was bad about sticking the ends of his glasses in his mouth; so one day when I did not attend court with him, I had painted the ends with “No Bite”. When his courtroom deputy called and said it had gotten to be a ‘large’ arraignment I told her to somehow get his glasses from him and wash them off with soap!!!! She did so; but, he put them in his mouth and said, “Ah $#*T!; and his courtroom deputy turned around and asked if he want that part transcribed? He thought that she had done it; but, she told him that I had done it, trying to get him to stop sticking his glasses in his mouth, so we could ‘hear’ him. He came back to the office and asked me to 'give it to him'. I asked him 'what'? He told me, YOU KNOW WHAT!

One day, in front of probably the largest arraignment; he got to the last step going up the podium to his desk; and, the floor mat that you put under desks, actually covered the entire area actually had slid over and turned up some; and the edge of the loafers he was wearing caught on it and he went sprawling across the floor; I have never seen so many guns pulled out and attorneys slamming their defendants back in their chairs. His bailiff was going up to check on him; and, he pulled himself up and said, “SMILE! It’s Saturday Night!” The whole courtroom burst out laughing. CRD and I got up and fought each other back into the door to his chambers to the restroom; we were both laughing and about to ‘pee in our pants’. She had to put that in her transcript. It was a joke for a long time.

I can understand your feelings about ‘people being a lot ruder’ and that goes right down to the cashier. One reason I am glad that my DGDs are no longer small enough to want toys; now I get my shopping in by buying ‘gift cards’ … so they can pick out what they want themselves.

Taking disability (or having to take it) won’t change your monthly SS payment; just the pay you are now making. Mine dropped down to about 25% of what I had been making, that was the worst. I’m sure that because I had to take my SSD check when I did (right after my 50th birthday) it was smaller than it would have been if I had been older and still working. But, I don’t care. My retirement check also dropped ‘significantly’ when I turned 62; and, I had forgotten (or probably DH) that it would drop. DH was still a little shocked when it did; then, he remembered that they had told him that; but, getting a check that was $250 a month less; made for a scramble to get back to the point that we could pay our bills without having to go to my 401K account. UGH!!!! I did have to keep my insurance COBRA, because DH was covered under it and is self-employed; so that also is a pretty big hit to my retirement disability check; but, I will still get it until I die. It went up $54 when ObamaCare went from being a choice to being mandatory. It also has things that are no longer covered. I am still ‘fighting’ with them about paying for my ‘night guard’ which costs $750; when they had paid for my last one. One of the reasons I had to have another one made was that my DDnL#2’s dog, had gotten it out of the case off the side table and chewed it up. Hopefully, now that the insurance clerk has filed it under the Periodontist that owns the practice, they will pay for it. The reason they were not considering it as a covered item, is because the one that actually made it is ‘semi-retired’ and they had ‘dropped him off the list’ totally. Much easier to do that than to do all the paperwork to have him put back on as working full-time. Still waiting; but, I hope I will get a ‘check’ later this month. IF I don’t get one, I plan to ‘appeal’ it.


Heather – I just bought the first pair of boots with a heel; but, it is a ‘chunky’ heel and I don’t feel like I am going to fall; and they are the short boots, which I said I would never buy a pair of them. LOL! Never say Never!
I used to play drums in our HS band; and, I have always wanted something like a set of drums I could sit at and bang them to ‘get my frustrations out’; or a ‘punching bag’. While I am NOT a hitter or things, my DOS made me mad a few weeks back when he held my wrist because he thought I was headed out the door after his wife for a comment she made that really pissed me off! When he did I took both palms and slapped both side of his face. I have NEVER slapped anyone before, and I was sorry that I did … to a point. But, at that point I was REALLY mad!
When you are talking about ‘batiks’ are you taking about wallpaper? It can be stripped and some can be painted over, if it is not peeling anywhere. But, if you strip it you’d have to wash the glue off the wall before painting over the wall, or hanging new wallpaper. Don’t look at is as ‘what it is now’; think of it was ‘what it can be’ [your choices].


Carol – My oldest DGD makes our stuffing for Thanksgiving and they (the ‘girls’) cook all the veggies; I cook a ham and a turkey. I cook my turkey upside-down; so that the breast will not dry out; but there is no way I can turn it back over to cut without the boys sticking a fork into both sides and me putting a plate on the back of it and them holding it in place while I turn the plate over with the turkey on the plate. It can be a bit awkward; because they stand on either side of me and their forks are on the opposite side; but, I have never had a dry turkey breast since.


DebbieBlack… - You are a member, just by coming to this site; THANKS for your service and sorry you lost your leg (however you did so). You’ve come to the right site to get encouragement, for sure! Lisa – You’re right; I have to ‘change my mindset’ and accept her as she is. It is NOT easy; but, I was very pleasant to her last Thursday evening and she seemed to be ‘surprised’. I just don’t think I will ever be able (at this point) in carrying on a conversation with her without my DOS and DH being where they can ‘hear’ the entire conversation. I know that she probably feels that we ‘don’t approve of her’; but, that is NOT true. She is my DOS’s choice as a ‘wife’; but, I NEVER want to see him ‘hurt’ in the same way he was when his first wife divorced him and took their child with her She made if difficult every time she was to visit and when he was supposed to pay her child support. Finally, DnL#1 decided that maybe she should be the one to take that task on; but, his ‘ex’ was a bit ‘crazy like a fox’; and, she would ask her to go ‘cash the check’ because she did not have a checking account to put it in. So she did; and did not get her to endorse it, nor did she get her to sign a ‘receipt’ before giving the cash to her. So, then she tried to say it was not even getting paid; and, told him she was going to take him to court over it, it could have cost him $16K, which they could not have possibly come up with. When DOGD (at 14) wanted her custody changed to her Daddy; he got it; and the Judge said that she would owe him ‘child support’ by taking what she claimed to be owed by him, and spread it over the next 4 years. Then she said that all he had to do was ask her, about the custody matter, and ‘catch up the child support’ which he had already paid her. She was REALLY pissed that the Judge did this. The first time she got arrested for ‘drugs’, she was claiming all 3 children and getting $1700 a month on an EBIT card (food stamps). She has since then, lost custody of all her children, and she has made ‘no effort’ to do the things she was told she had to do for it to be even considered to get her girls back.

For a couple of years after my DOS was divorced from her, DnL#1 did not visit us [not that I blamed her] (or let DOGD come either). DOS did; but, he did not bring DOGD along with him. Not long ago, she was really ‘downgrading’ DOGD’s biological mother and she told her that only ‘she and her Daddy’ had the right to talk about her in a negative way. I had been telling her that for the first 4 years they had custody of her that she was wrong in doing so; from the experience of being a step-mother myself. After DOGD said that to her, she has not done so. They really do have a good step-mom/step-daughter relationship and she has been a good ‘mother figure’ to her. Sometimes at the expense of her own daughters. I also agree, that probably nothing I say or do will change her mind. I just wish she would not always bring up that we don’t like her; but that we love our other DDnL#2. If anyone wants to know why I haven’t been putting the “D” in front of DnL#1’s name … it is because it would always seem like a ‘damn’ to me; and, I do not want that, for her or for any of the rest of the family.

The first thing my DMnL told me when I was engaged to marry DH, that I was NEVER to tell my step-daughter why DH and her mother were divorced; and, I never did – even when she asked me directly. She was an adult. I told her I was not in the picture then, and if she wanted to know; she needed to ask one or the other of them. But, her aunt (mother’s sister) had already done so. Even when she told me that, I told her I really did not know.


Marcelynh – What a beautiful crew! I was about to ask if the two on the front right were ‘twins’; but, then I saw that they looked more like school uniforms. Can’t wait to see the other two!


Margaret – Sorry for your loss; it doesn’t matter how old or young they are when they pass away; it is still hard. I still miss both my parents and my in-laws.


Kate – I would suggest that you go back on your ‘food’ tracking pages and see what you were doing to ‘lose’ weight at that time. Sometimes if we eat the same thing day-in/day-out our bodies get used to it and we need to ‘jumpstart’ if, even ‘if’ it puts you over your CI number; maybe adding a little protein to it, especially if your ‘exercise’ has increased. A boiled egg, a banana, peanut butter, yogurt, and nuts … and I am sure there are other things; but, those were what my nurse/MD told me to do.

Jake wanted to go to I Hop for breakfast......I had already eaten my breakfast at 7 AM so the idea didn't sound too great for me. We compromised by filling out our ballots so we could drop them off, then doing the errands on my list, giving me time to walk outside once before going and having breakfast about 10 AM....we decided to call it lunch....we bought some more tulip bulbs on the way home and then I took another outside walk. One good thing about I Hop is that they have a healthy and fit omelette with a side of fruit for 330 calories. You have to look hard to find it among all the pancakes with sugary toppings, hash browns, breakfast meats, cheese, and other high calories options but it makes it pleasant to eat there.

7 loads of laundry yesterday. My washer has been sitting with water in it for about 2 months as it needs a lid switch replaced. My step-son was to come and fix it but has not shown up for the past 2 weekends. If the washer didn't sit where it does I could do it myself. Carrying 7 loads of laundry back and forth from the laundry room my back was protesting last night but it feels good to have it done. Oldest boy is a bed wetter so laundry from that almost everyday.

Oh wow, I was a sleeping in FOOL this morning! Got up at 10 am! It's my cold, yep I am blaming it on THAT. Last night we watched one of our favorite series, "Shetland" a BBC murder mystery series. We love it! We fine tune our listening skills, because sometimes they will be talking, and its "heck rewind that sentence!" what did they say! It's a delightful dialect to have play on your ear drums!

Presently we have a bunch of shows we tape on a regular basis. The "90 Day Fiance' " is a hoot, and we watch it to keep our marriage in check. We say a lot of "they are crazy to be doing this or that". People have so many ideals about marriage that are not realistic. So many expectations that are intrusive to how a marriage even works. I have all my ghost shows, "Ghost Adventures", "Kindred Spirits", and ogles more that are just as mindless. If they would just turn down the scary music so I could HEAR what they are hearing!!! I have started to watch "All of Us" which is a series that shows the dynamics of a family from the 1970's to present day.

Love the picture of the grandkids! I can't wait until I am a grandmother!

Nothing going on today. Mailed our ballots today. A couple of the local positions had no one running, so I wrote in my husband... lol. Now if he voted for himself, heck he could be the local county water and soil commissioner!

Got one of my major winterization chores done today. Every year I go out and crawl around on my concrete driveway praying to the concrete gods that they don't make more cracks in the driveway that I then have to fill with concrete patch. This year it only took me 2 1/2 hours to find, tape off, fill and clean up repairing the driveway. It is a 3 car wide driveway.

The soil here moves when it gets wet and I have discovered if I fill all the cracks before the snow flies then moisture does not sink through and then freeze and heave the concrete driveway. Most of my neighbors have heaves in their concrete driveways that are huge because they didn't keep the moisture from seeping under the concrete. The only repair at this point for them is to have it jack hammered up and re-pour a new driveway.

Aleve is my friend, or more clearly, it's my knees and back's best friend right now.

DD and I got our election ballots in the mail yesterday. We'll sit down and fill them out this weekend. I'll take them to a drop off box early next week and it will be done.

Becca - I wake up when the coffee is done. On weekends, DH puts it in a thermos and I can sleep much later and still have fresh, hot coffee when I wake up. I think the latest might have been was 11:00; and, I think I only woke up then, because DH was checking to see 'if I was alive'. I guess he can't tell if I am wearing my C-pap machine. Speaking of C-pap machine; I got my 2nd 'new' one almost a year ago; on my old one, after a sleep study the MD made changes to it, so Monday I am taking both of them in to have the chips compared to make sure the HomePatient Care people did not set the 2nd one incorrectly. Something's not right. I don't fall to sleep nearly as quickly. The air flow doesn't seem to be nearly as powerful, the water chamber is harder to fill; and the 'fill line' isn't easy to see, and 'if' I wake up during the night I feel like someone has their hand over my nose; and, I wear a 'wisp' mask that only 'covers' the nose because I am way too claustrophobic to wear even the 1/2 mask because it still covers your mouth. I've woken up during the night when we lost power; because I could not breath. That is a horrible feeling.

I went and voted yesterday in town; the poll worker said they had had a good turn-out with about 500 people already having voted. For a small town, that is pretty good. I just did not want to have to stand in line, if I could help it.

Trump made a speech today in Gettysburg and for the 2nd time, he actually did so and seemed presidential. No name-calling. Guess we'll see if he 'tweets' something stupid; maybe he is finally listening to those around him giving advice, such as his VP choice. No more to be said ...!

Hello to all the 'newbies'. Prayers to all that need them, Glad to be seeing that some are getting better after surgery. That really puts a 'damper' on you if you have always been very active. Both times I had rotator cuff surgery, I did exactly what they told me to do; I wanted my arm to work like it was supposed to so that I could get back to my drawing and painting. I still have to hold my hand, in order to write a check. I guess I'm not too stubborn.

DGDs have come over, so I am closing.

Evening Ladies-
I have my pajamas on and I am in bed.. Long long day...got up to the cape in about 3 hrs and went right to the Hospice..
Poor Ray ,he was semi lucid while I was there and I sat with him for about an hour and I knew his pain meds were wearing off..but I reminisced about all the fun stuff we have done, and all his beautiful artwork.. And he could stop fighting if he was third that, we al would be well...played him some old hymns.... Just before I left the nurse came in and gave him some heavy pain meds,I gave him a kiss on the forehead and told him I loved him and he told me he loved me back.. If that is the last word I hear from him, they are the words that count... From there I went to the nursing home to see Ruth ,she was screaming at the aides because they had her on the bedpan.. And she knew I was there.. Her roommate is such a peach.. And Ruth loved her nightwear...from there I did a quick stop at the Christmas tree shop.. Bought her some sugar free cookies.. And gonna sneak them down some ritz crackers,peanut butter and marmalade...
Tomorrow is going up and tackling the house.. Even if it is for an hour or 2 and get what we need to out.. That will be a help...
Margaret- so sorry and my deepest sympathies on your mom passing.. Wow 98 God bless her.
Gonna hit the hay.. It's been a long day..

Lenora, just as an FYI, I've noticed a couple of times now you listing bananas as high in protein. In fact, 97% of a banana is carbs (sugar). There is only about 1gram of protein. I mention this, because having had Type II diabetes, we were told to restrict bananas in our diet and if we did have one to eat only half it. I don't want anyone to be confused if they are on a low carb diet.
