I've been enjoying watching the Seahawks games this year (except the ones I didn't enjoy). I thought I'd start a thread asking what those of us who watch football do to help us keep in line with our healthy lifestyle.

Since joining WW, my brother and I have a tradition of doing exercise every time a team scores. For example, when the Hawks score, I usually do pushups and squats. When the other team scores, I do sit-ups and Supermans. When we first started doing this, we pretty much had to limit ourselves to the reps for the scoring play. So, 7 for the first TD, and seven for the second, and so on. But as we got healthier, we began doing the number of reps to match the current score. So, 7 for the first TD, 14 for the second. It helps that the Hawks aren't usually a high scoring team. :) Sometimes I'll try to run the stairs one flight for each field goal.

We tend to avoid too much snacking, instead planning on one good meal at half-time. (That being said, a couple of times this year, we've broke out some chips and dip.)

How about you guys? Do you have a routine to include for game days?

Since it's just me watching, there's not much snackage. A couple of beers, a cheese stick and a beef stick. Maybe a pack of WW popped chips.

Best place to watch football is the gym.

I made big changes to my Sunday football eating/snacking after my first year on WW. I used to fix huge unhealthy meal or snacks for Sunday football. Now I just watch the games.
Today I got to watch the end of the Packers vs Bears game. Go Pack Go!!!

Nice Gavin. I don't have a routine for football per se. I don't automatically snack unless it is at a time for my afternoon snack kind of thing. I also don't sit for a whole game without moving around some. I like to record the game and fast forward through the ads sometimes too.

I have gotten up and done something outside during half time for some games too.

I like your idea of doing some exercise to celebrate.

Gotta admit, one of the reasons I'm not a football fan is it takes so damm long to get through a game! I remember as a kid that my brother would spend h-o-u-r-s getting through one game on the tube, only to start another one right after the first one ended. I never recovered from football boredom.

That said, I think you've got some good strategies, @GavinFlynn1 ! My WW meeting leader has suggested similar things for when people are watching TV for any reason, but I think you've upped the ante. Good for you; great NSV!

I like the exercise for scores strategy. Kinda like the Oregon Duck. I have tried something similar for every commercial. I used to watch games sitting on an exercise ball rather than a recliner.

The timing of games on the West Coast changes the food dynamic some, for me. I just end up eating my regular meals and there isn't much snacking.

Same here. I can't invest 3 hours in to watching a game that will probably turn out to be a loss. Why did we ever pick Cutler for a QB, and then offer him that huge extension. Makes no sense to me.

Much easier for me to eat healthy food and snacks for Carolina Panther away games, (Redskins tonight - will try Gavin's exercise for points tonight). For home games, my friends and I are working on becoming professional tailgaters. I stay away from the chips and dips for the most part, and save points for the main course which is usually grilled steak, chicken, or burgers. Of course, there are usually beverages involved, which tend to use up extra weekly points. Good that there are only 8 home games each year. No playoffs or Super Bowl for the Panthers this year.

I often dust and sweep during commercials. (True confession: I didn't do this yesterday even though it desperately needed to be done).

Love the exercise strategy, @GavinFlynn1. Of course, I don't want to get down on the floor until after I've cleaned up, so one thing leads to another here!
