does alternating the speed up and down while running or walking on the treadmill help to loose weight?

I think what you're kind of referring to is interval training or HIIT. It's essentially short bursts of really high intensity and then low intensity, repeated over and over. I'm not an expert by any means but I do know that some studies have shown this helps to burn more fat because your metabolism is boosted for up to 24 hours after working out like that. It also means you can do shorter workouts (but they're often more intense)0
