I and doing a regular series of sit ups and push-ups to build my general health.

I am using iPhone apps for push-ups and sit ups. Each app has you do a series of exercises each day, spaced with a day of rest. I'm using Pushups Pro and Situps Pro, but there are a lot of other free and cheap alternative.0

For push-ups today, I am on week four. I did seven, eight, eight, eight and 15 push-ups.
For situps, I am also on week four. I did eight, eight, 12, 10, eight and 21.0 -
I should join you, at least for the situps.
Pushups are not my friend. I always end up with shoulder pain when I try to increase # of pushups. Maybe ok in moderation.1
