"It's harder to fall off the wagon, when you are sitting in the middle." - Anonymous

That was one of my favorite phrases back when I was on Weight Watchers the first go around. For me, "sitting in the middle"meant going to my WW meetings, participating in those meetings, and checking in daily with my online support group (GoaD).

I stopped going to WW meetings years ago, for reasons that I now regret. Once I stopped, pride and ego kept me from coming back.

Today I gave up that battle, and I came back to the meetings that helped me find and maintain a healthy lifestyle that I loved.

It's good to be nudging my way back into the middle.

    Good going.

In January we moved from the Chicago burbs to Key West. There's a meeting here. But it's not the same. So I've been going to WI and then taking a powder. Mind if I hang on your coattails Gavin?

I want to get myself in the meeting. I've been to it 1 or 2 times over the years vacationing here.

It's just one of those things in life, you're happy with something then it changes. The change just seems not as good for no particular reason.

I stayed with the Chi meeting 10 yrs. I would have come undone without it. But when I was really up against it I got ahold of myself because I was going to have to go face the music.

Gavin- you're doing the right thing. Go and don't just be the guy in the corner. Speak up. Stick around, never leave and watch the others come and go. They will think you're nuts but it works.

WTG Bro. I wish I'd have kept going in 1979. Glad we made the choice to rejoin a few years back.

Almost five years on GoaD and I've never heard that one! Good one.

I guess that is one of my biggest changes this time, I'm on the middle of the WW wagon. Every other time I successfully lost weight on WW I quit going to meetings. Then gained back all what I had lost PLUS MORE!

Not going to happen this time.

@88olds and @GavinFlynn1 , +1 to this advice (thanks George)! I am that guy in our meeting. Sometimes I do feel a just a little awkward being the only guy in the group (it wasn't that way when I started but it often is now), but I'm a big believer in being a participant and not an empty shell. I've also had enough time on-plan to have known and lived through some of the challenges and a lot of the excuses. The leader and receptionists often thank me for speaking up, I think because I take a little of the GOAD approach when others are looking for an out. That said, I learn from my group every time so it's great give and take.

As for the quote, I haven't heard it before but it's hard to argue with the logic. One of the best pieces of GOAD knowledge I got was to keep doing on lifetime what I was doing to lose. I have done so for almost two years now. I'm pretty sure had I not done so, I could be well on my way back to where I was when I started.

Glad you're finding your stride Gavin. Keep at it; it's well worth it!

We have several guys in our meetings. I suppose I might have been a slight influence that way as I go weekly . Over the years I have sometimes been the only guy but several guys this last year or two.

I think like 88olds if I moved to a new area I might not stick around meetings so much where folks stare at you for not being overweight currently and a guy to boot. One reason I don't "visit" WW meetings on the road and never have. Enough folks know me and my success history including the leader and receptionists and several long time participants.

Gavin, good for you for knowing where you needed to be and for putting yourself there. Sounds like it's a good first step!

    Wishing you well.
