I just recently started and I find I have very little stamina. I had had back surgery in January before that I was unable to do very much because of the pain, for over six months,so I have gained a lot of weight. I'm trying to get healthy and exercise and eat right but the problem is the exercises I look up seem to be geared to people who can do those exercises. I'm very limited right now so I'm trying to find an exercise I can do that help make me lose weight without being too painful for my back I do have a treadmill and I tried walking which is somewhat helpful but I feel like it since I can't go in a high-speed I'm not really doing much. Any. tips for someone who is limited in mobility for different exercises to do

Just keep walking. Walk outside too. You might need to do that for a month or two before you move into something else.

Then focus on your diet to lose weight.

Keep walking, In time you will be able to increase your distance, increase your speed and increase the amount and types of exercises you can do. After my surgery, I started walking the length of my deck (30 feet) several times a day, which was increased to once around the "small" block (quarter mile) which increase to once around the "double" block (half mile) to a mile to two miles to three miles to jogging a quarter mile and walking a quarter mile for four miles, to C25K to doing my first 5K to getting the Half Marathon done in 2:17:10 all within two years.

    Start, keep going and improving.

    Love the advice above.
Walk what you can now, and work slowly towards improving your time, distance and speed.

If you have a pool nearby you may enjoy aquafit. It will be very easy on your back, but will give you a cardio workout with a little resistance work too.
Even though you are in a class with others you can go at your own pace.

Just walking in water or swimming will help you too.

When it comes gown to losing weight it is a about eating less calories than you burn. Focus on that first. Getting your calorie goal established and learning how to use a digital food scale and choose the correct entries in the food data base will have a bigger effect on weight loss than exercise.

Do exercise though, it is good for your overall health, and, done carefully, will improve your back.

    Cheers, h.

never been in your shoes and really hope your recovery goes well. my two cents though:

instead of focusing on the exercise that will 'make you lose weight', focus on exercise for the purpose of reducing your pain. exercise in itself isn't that great for weight loss even in fully-active people :) it is/can be great for getting you stronger, and in your case getting you stronger in ways that will support your recovery in a direct way.

weight can be tackled through other pathways. basically, calorie management.
