Had a nice lunch with a couple from church. It was fun! Nice to meet new people. I had pulled pork sandwich loaded with coleslaw and BBQ sauce plus baked potato salad. What a treat! I did eat the sandwich with a fork and took off the top bun! Stayed within my goals. Yeah!

Have a good week. I’ll catch up tomorrow.

Hey Rye, I am still reading the posts but only sticking my two cents in when I can't help myself, lol. I seem to be incredibly busy at the moment, don't know why. I had family visiting for a week, and I am STILL trying to clean and re-organize everything...I haven't reached the upstairs yet. Then we had a 21st party to go to and that took two days to recover from (hubby has gone to bed early again tonight, lol) and I also was away all day going out of town to the saddle shop to buy some needed gear for the horses. On the way I went for my long run of an hour and ten minutes in my favourite forest with Jock to keep me company. I am working towards another half marathon coming up in June.

But I did want to share another photo, this time not of my own horse but of my Asperger's student on her horse. I took her out for a trail ride the other day and we had a confidence building exercise where she had to get her horse to walk down a steep sandy bank and into the creek. It took awhile but when she finally succeeded she had this great smile on her face. She posted this picture I took on Facebook and wrote that she was Amazingly Happy! She doesn't have a lot of things to be happy about, living alone now that her mum has died of cancer in her fifties, and no dad around, so I am glad that I can help her achieve a goal that is important to her. This was her mother's horse, Sweetie.

Katla I'm choking with laughter on J*ck*$$. The (too long but he does hear it) code phrase "I hope you will reconsider, can we talk about it later?" has replaced my screeching "you have your head so far up your @$$...". The key is for me to STOP TALKING after the code phrase, or at most repeat "Can we talk about it later". Amazingly it defuses the pending explosion without entrenching any defenses. Frequently, after a quiet interval, Joe comes back with a workable compromise.

Finally sleepy so time to sign off and snooze a few hours. Tomorrow will make bi-monthly trek to Trader Joe's in Medford, a 3+ hr drive but worth it for the things I can't get here.

Happy that May is right around the corner and spring is officially here. I had a restful day Sunday, I love to putter and had 3 hours of uninterrupted puttering which in today's definition included, laundry, picking up things and putting them in their rightful place, clearing out fridge, making grocery list and light grocery shopping, making hummus and butternut soup (mmmmm) and then taking a walk with DH along the Hudson river, and oh yeah A NAP!! I alctually felt more like myself after all of that and am reminding myself to remind myself that I am not overwhelmed, just busy!

Hi all,
I'm feeling much better this morning and managed to complete my exercise regime. I will leave it another day before I go running.
The doctor's surgery rang me this morning about my email over the weekend, so they are going to ring me for a conference around lunch time. Good that they are taking it seriously.
The good news is that I am now officially back at my target, maintenance weight. Every cloud etc........ One day of not eating much and one evening of diarrhoea finally cracked it! :embarassed:

Today I'm going to email a magazine for older people, which featured me in an article in 2007. I was interviewed by a journalist about the experimental radiation they were doing during breast cancer surgery, instead of having to go through a course afterwards. I thought they might be interested in my memoir from the nostalgia point of view. No harm in trying.

Wendy - You must feel a great sense of satisfaction, seeing that happy smile.

Good morning Ladies -

I had a great weekend with the hubs home. We attended the crawfish boil in the neighborhood on Saturday afternoon/evening. We had a great time with some good food. Unfortunately, I found that I have lost enough padding off my butt that sitting on a stone fire pit surround is NOT comfortable. A couple of other ladies and I ended up stealing the pad off the chaise lounge and we sat on that. My tailbone is very sore today, I'm guessing a bruise that is getting better. We have a Cinco de Mayo party next Saturday at another neighbor's house. The following weekend we are having a patio therapy session on our patio on Sunday evening. My friend will be here for one night only and her hub will be with her. The neighbors have met her a few times, but haven't met her hub, hence the patio therapy that happens to be on Mother's Day. The neighbor's that I invited don't have Mother's Day plans so it worked out nicely. Hubs will fire up the smoker and make smoked shrimp, canadian bacon, smoked salmon and smoke a red fish (that one of the neighbors caught) to make a smoked fish dip. I have to get him to put the timeline of what needs done on our shared calendar so we can get it all done. I know the canadian bacon has to marinade/dry for 3-4 days and I think the salmon is a 4-5 day process. The shrimp is only a 2 day process and I already have it on the calendar to get it thawed/rubbed. The meat can be done the day before since it can all be served cold or at room temperature. I think I will make some salads to go with it and call it a day. I am billing it as heavy snacks, not dinner. I think I will also make cranberry slushies to go with it for the ladies. I will get some limes this week and get it going in the freezer. I freeze cranberry wine and vodka and shave it down each day after it starts to freeze (a soft freeze because of the vodka in it) to make it slushie. I haven't done it since I started my weight loss, but the neighbors love it so I will make it. I will probably have one because they are quite tasty. If we don't use it all, I just put it in ziploc bags and save it for another patio event.

Heather I hope you are feeling better. Machka - Continued prayers for more improvements, no matter how small. Lisa - safe travels.

Good morning!
I like the "just busy not overwhelmed" comment from NYKaren. Some days it is the simplest things that help me feel more in control. This weekend was one of those weekends that are helping me view this morning in a more rested state.
My "catch phrase" with DH is "dog with a bone". Sometimes he just goes on and on. ..seems to work.
He was antsy to go to store yesterday and I was determined to catch up on work. After dinner he asked when we might be going to the store, I told him after work today. He reminded me of his friend's birthday. Walmart doesn't close, so can go after dinner tonight.
I am thankful and happy to be a part of this chatty group.

And why was it a good day?

My husband got his trach out! At long last!

And he was a bit chatty this morning (still mostly random phrases), so I asked him his name, and he kind of almost said it.

The nurse was standing there, and said to him, "OK, who is she? Introduce us" (and he pointed at me).

My husband did a "This is" gesture with his hand and said, "She's my .... (and then he fought with it for a moment) ... my wife!"

Yes!!

But he didn't know my name. I guess if you're struggling with your own name, someone else's name might be a mystery too.

The trick will be whether or not he remembers all this tomorrow! But I'll take it for today.

Morning all! Had a great visit with Joaquin (and his parents ) He warmed up to me right away; took a little while for him to warm up to DH and DYS, but he definitely had us all vying for his attention. He is an incredible mimic with expressions and gestures. DYS taught him the "Wakanda" power salute from Black Panther movie. Joaquin picked that up quickly on Friday night and when I brought him into our hotel room, Saturday morning, he did the salute as soon as he saw his Uncle Colin (DYS). DD's presentation at the conference was very well received. She made a lot of important connections and a few people gave her contacts for grant money to continue the research that would enable her to take a longer trip to Paris and get another look at the literature she is working on. She and her DH were talking about possibly going, maybe next year; and Joaquin would come to Camp Grandma for a week or two! THAT made me dance around singing "Camp Grandma! Camp Grandma!", which made Joaquin laugh and do his own excited little dance! Whoot! Camp Grandma will be fun! Anyway, here are a couple pics: My DH (Tim), DYS (Colin), the amazing Joaquin, and I. We are sitting on the patio of the bookstore cafe at ND. It was chilly; but the sun felt good.

Came home to three inquiries about daycare on my answering machine! I will get those taken care of today. I also need to connect with the new family that will be starting, presumably, this upcoming weekend. Need to confirm hours/days and make sure the mama has the ball rolling with the state in regards to payment for childcare. It will be at least six weeks before I get paid from the state; which is fine, as long as I know she has started the process.

I have been reading all of the posts. Sending you all much love. Some that stick in my head:
Heather- So sorry you have been sick! Hope you are feeling better soon!
Machka- Still sending you the best of thoughts and strength and peaceful vibes! I enjoy hearing of every small step forward, made by your DH! forward is good!

Popped out of bed at 6 picked some more up ,and took the dog for a walk and took a shower...and am dressed for work...the inspection will happen at 8:30 ,have to go take Homer and Chester out ,then stop at the credit union get money for the patio guy,pick up my screen from the repair place and drop it off home and go to work at 11.
