This may sound silly, but...

What exactly is yoga? And what could it do for me?

I don't know if I can really explain yoga adequately. It's a practice that involves going through poses to strengthen and stretch your body. There is a big mental aspect to it as well. You can gain strength and flexibility from it, depending on the practice, there is more than one type of yoga. I find it to be rather centering and calming, for the most part.

It really depends on the kind of yoga you are doing. Some focus on stretching and balance, centering yourself, strength, there is hot yoga... Some people use it to clear their minds after long and busy days, I personally practice because of how great my body feels after class. I feel like my body is energized and alive, I feel like I can breath better, and it feels like blood and oxygen are circulating properly throught my body (again, me personally).

You should see if your local community centers have yoga. I use to take classes at one and it was $5 per class which is quite resonable. You could also look into some dvd's for beginners.

I would suggest you YouTube it and there will be plenty of videos.

This. It largely works on flexibility, but there are different types of yoga. Depending on your goals there is yoga for strength, stretching, relaxation.

I'm big on power yoga, which is aimed toward gaining muscle strength, but it's also really relaxing.
