    No run today... at least not yet. It is 92 with a 71 dew point. Hoping the temperature will come down later - but thinking about getting up before the heat tomorrow and trying a longer run. If I do that than running late tonight will be detrimental. Decisions!

    @girlinahat It helps keep the beer warm?? But like @LaDispute57 my beer doesn't usually last long enough to get warm - unless it's something really foul then there may be accidental spillage ;)

    That's the one unfortunate thing about our " Midnight Sun " it really does not allow fireworks to show in their full glory.

    Also, I heard if you stop tee-totalling and start drinking, you can shave almost 7 seconds off your pace. Or at least not give a shlt if you don't. :)

    I do fine by myself. People will notice if I don't show up for work, though.

    So much to read thru and comment on!
    @Stoshew71 - was wondering where you had gotten off to and was hoping it was work related. Sorry you are going through such a rough time and I hope things smooth out soon! I have no personal experience other than going thru my parent's and it was rough on them and on us, but it did get better.

    @midwesterner85 - the whole BG thing is really scary to me. Mostly because I have so very little experience with it. It amazes me that you are so at ease with it but I guess that comes from dealing with it for so long. I would definitely have a service dog just for the extra security and peace of mind.

    I have been to many races with beer or wine at the end and I just couldn't... I like a good dark beer but not after racing. I am pretty sure I would just puke. I had wine once (Temecula Wine Country HM) - took a couple of sips and tossed it out. I did get a nice wine glass though :) In SF there are always people out in the neighborhoods with goodies from shots, cups of beer, to my favorite - ice cold watermelon chunks!

    I do think Flying Pig may have to be on my list of destination races... because BACON (double BACON)! Maybe we will have a MFP team there.
    The Oak Barrel HM and the Kentucky Derby HM will probably also make it to my wish list event though I don't drink whiskey or bourbon but my husband does!

    @RespectTheKitty - glad the fog is lifting a little from your bout with depression and you are able to get back out for a run/walk.
    @polskagirl01 - I wonder if that guy thought you were trying to run away from your family :lol: Good Luck with the HM tomorrow!

    @garygse - that on call business is why I was always so happy to have been moved from client delivery to technical sales support even if the move was because they moved my entire team offshore! I no longer had to be on call or take calls for anyone else who didn't answer!

    Had planned to get my long run in today as it is my husband's last day of work and we are hanging out with friends and celebrating tomorrow. I even set my alarm to get up super early for me and went to bed early too... 9.5 hours later I woke up; slept through the alarm and apparently turned it off. I was also incredibly sore when I woke up from a tough training session yesterday. I knew I would be sore, just didn't expect it to hit until later in the day. So I went out anyway figuring I would run as long as I could or until it got too hot... managed to get in a bit over half of my long run at a pretty decent pace for me. I did have an issue in mile 4 where my right fore foot and toes kept falling asleep and then felt like they were burning. I must have changed my gait in response because my ITB on that side also started complaining and I have never had ITB issues. At one point my toes actually hurt to the point that I had to stop, walked to a bench and take my shoe off to stretch my toes. Running the last 1+ miles home was much more comfortable but I am not at all sure what was different in my shoe/sock.

    Hugs to everyone in this thread having a difficult month. Hope that things turn upwards soon.

    Didn't get to sweep the whole race, there were things to be done at the aid station and I had to stay there until the race ended. Did to run a big 2k downhill.

    HA! I do not actually like beer. Never have. Used to walk around parties with a mostly full beer so that people would not bug me about "just have a drink, maaan." :)

    @HonuNui I've been following the eruption these past almost 8 weeks and it's really quite staggering the scale of the catastrophe in slow motion. I think you have definitely got everyone else beat in the temperature department!

    @teerai - you are so right! There has been so much advancement of alternative medicine in the areas of cancer treatments, heart disease and others... from nutritionists to acupuncturists and the allopathic doctors are starting to see that it is effective and people don't want to just pop a pill any longer. You are starting to see, finally, a combined effort to treat, that looks at all aspects from stress and nutrition to fixing the physical damage. Just the studies and treatments now that show the affect of sugar/carbs on some cancers and of estrogens on others is pretty amazing. Starve them of those and the cancers recede or die out... says a lot about our fast food, big gulp diets.
    I really hope they can take on the whole diabetes issue too as it is such a big problem but really requires such an individualized approach! There are so many alternatives these days that you really have to do your research.

    @HonuNui - whatever that is it looks dangerous! The pictures from the eruption are amazing and frightening all at the same time!
