Shifting mindsets

So, I’m just noticing a reason for part of my recent struggles. In the past, my version of a healthy lifestyle was to eat moderately during the weekdays and “indulge moderately” on weekends. That hasn’t been working this time. I finally figured out why, and I feel like an idiot that I didn’t figure it out earlier. My son is now 21 and his days off are Wednesday and Thursday, so we treat those nights like weekend nights in terms of what we’re eating. But Friday comes along, and that’s my weekend, so my wife and I eat out together. I’ve basically been giving myself a four day weekend every week. Doh! I’ve been tracking, so I knew the points I was eating and when, but I finally see the subconscious emotional “why”, and it feels like I can now do something about it.

@GavinFlynn1...Gavin sounds like a good observation. We go along as individuals not realizing our daily routines and how they effect us. I have been all out of wack with a similar situation but worse than that not tracking which meant I thought I could move through a day without being mindful of what I was eating. Doesn't work for me so I get it when you talk about indulging. Struggles are very real for all of us that are not blessed with just eating what we want and when we want.

My mindset has been to watch what I eat and maintain. That has gotten me up 5 pounds. I need to go into lose mode but it is not as easy as just flipping a switch. I too need to track but have convinced myself that since WW did away with my program (several years ago, actually) it is too hard to determine my points. As I am writing this I just decided to at least write down everything I eat. There, that is a start.

Good when it clicks @GavinFlynn1 ! As you know, it's all about choices (once we realize which ones take priority). As you were...

Funny how things creep in on us until we the blinders come off. Well done!

Nice assessment and good post. I always look back to what I was eating when I was losing but never gave thought to assessing myself.

I think for me personally I just need to indulge a bit less as I get older. It all adds up whether I count it or not.
Congrats on the insight. I too have drifted up 10 or more pounds since beginning of the year and am right at my WW goal weight. I really like being about 7 or 8 lb lighter. Gotta do a bit better.

The first time around, I used to give myself a cheat day after my weigh-in. The second time around, I tried the same approach. That time, though, I realized that my cheat days began to expand in number. Not a good approach for me.

Good on you for figuring it out!
