Nice to know we aren't the only ones being whacked by this wind. It's awful, i can't seem to get warm. You did better than me though lol. I only managed 5k
And it's been really windy here, too. Mostly just trees down all over the place, some roofing/construction site issues. I found it somewhat challenging to ride my bike when returning from school drop-off. It's funny how often the weather in Poland is similar to where my family is in Pennsylvania.
My leg does not hurt. The daily massages have not hurt since Friday. Electro-therapy is still interesting, maybe it is helping too. I feel like I'm walking straight again and the few steps I ran from the car to the door didn't hurt. So there's hope!7 -
Socks.... Anyone got recommendations for ones that keep their elastic and don't end up in your shoe? I like thin seamless socks!0

Ok, I've been away from this for the last 2 months while finishing my thesis! I just couldn't maintain everything so diet and running had to be the victims... Which means I lost a lot of ground and have been very stressed without any outlet...
But I've rewarded myself with new trainers and my ingrown toenail has stopped being quite as painful so I got 5km on treadmill last night. Mostly walking - did w1 d1 of c25k and then just kept going with walk 2 run 1 until I hit 5km. 42 mins, so not too shabby! It was sooooo nice to be running again though!12 -
~2km walk tonight. Mild twinges in my ankle, and my arches hurt. I will tell my physio tomorrow morning and see if I'm allowed to try running. I also bought some k-tape on Amazon because it was purple.
I registered for the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon next spring.
Got some new cold weather gear on clearance from UA.
Sure spending a lot of money on running this month for someone who can't run right now.
Retail therapy
5.14 of long slow run with cool down for 55.56/60.5 for the month.8 -
4 miles this morning. Ridiculously slow, especially that 1st mile.

For Summer I use Under Armor's Heatgear or Nike Dryfit.
For cold weather, I use Darn Tough wool socks.
I find high-quality socks make a huge difference as you start putting on the miles. Running a mile can be done in any old cotton sock (probably- I would still argue for good socks though), but as you extend your time on your feet socks become as important, possibly more, than your shoes.6 -

5 miles around Shelby Farms equals stretch goal of 50 accomplished!
Our usual route around the Greenway is having the bathrooms at the trail head torn down and rebuilt, so we won't be running there for at least a month. I liked the bathrooms they had so I'm confused about the need for this. In the meantime we can explore some new routes. Today we ran our usual long steep downhill at Shelby Farms BACKWARDS and were calling on Jesus for mercy before we reached the top. So I guess you could say this was hill training.
Between one day and the next it's autumn. Rainy, moderate temps, and tomorrow it's supposed to dip into the 50s. Three days ago my husband burned his hand opening the front door when we came home because it was so hot. I'm happy we get some nicer temps but I could do without the rain - my feet like to blister when my shoes get wet, and I'm nursing a big one from today. Tried kt tape as a preventative and it did not help.
We saw eleven white herons (egrets) and four great blue herons today while running around the lake. Also many shorebirds of a kind we didn't recognize, and five bluebirds - two couples and a loner. Afterwards for our cool down walk we went down to the stables and petted noses across the fence. I haven't been to the rental ride area since I was a teen, and at that time it was sort of shabby and the horses looked sad. These were fat and sassy, feet looked well trimmed, much better. The horses include a great variety of fancy colors, including a couple of paints, a palomino, and four very pretty blanket Appaloosas. I have a weak spot for Appies because my horse as a teen was one. It took some patience but eventually the Appaloosa gelding I had my eye on came over and allowed his nose to be stroked. He had a good, kind, honest face - wasn't nippy at all, didn't seem fed up with people as rental horses tend to get. I miss riding, I need to take it up again!
Shorebirds are tricksy little devils to ID. I'm an avid birder, but I'm hopeless with shorebirds. And my 5k lunchtime run back in the UK usually ended up being a bit longer because I quite often spotted a kingfisher while I was out and would run up and down the river trying to get a good view of it. (Made the Garmin map very interesting to look at).
Lovely cool weather for Saturday's parkrun and then five miles on the treadmill last night which brings my September mileage to 43 miles.
Is anyone else having problems with Garmin Connect? Once my runs are uploaded, I then change the name and type of run etc, but on some screens I can see the changes, but on other screens everything reverts back to the default settings. Really weird (and somewhat annoying).

I got some UnderArmor socks on @PastorVincent's recommendation and haven't had any issue with the elastic, although because of the low cut I did get some rubbing on one long run. I rotate between these, two pairs of thicker WrightSocks, and three pairs of ASIC quarter socks (which are also pretty thin and might be up your alley) so nothing's gotten too much wear yet. I think I prefer the quarter length to be really confident there won't be slippage, but YMMV.
ETA: I checked and I guess both the UA and ASICs have toe seams, though? But really flat ones - I've never noticed them before.0 -

Ick, its hot and humid again - 75 degrees with 99% humidity at 6am. I got back to my house after my run, super sweaty, only to discover the plumbing went out in the house. The good? I rent the house so I don't have to worry about fixing the issue. The bad? I had to be at work in less than an hour for a meeting. I washed off with a gallon jug of cold bottled water from my fridge on the back porch. Invigorating? LOL
I sincerely hope my neighbors were not home and peaking through the fence into my backyard....

I remember doing the same thing when I was out for about 4+ weeks with a grade 2 calf strain... it was good medicine and it was good mentally to be preparing for running again while I was side lined.1 -
Socks.... Anyone got recommendations for ones that keep their elastic and don't end up in your shoe? I like thin seamless socks!@Sparx_81 I like feetures and balega.
I'm with April... I've used both and like them about the same. I do feel like the Feetures conform to the foot better for a tighter fit, but I've not had either of them slide down. I've mainly stuck to the no-cushion or light-cushion. They mainly run about $12-15 a pair but you can usually find a good deal (buy 3 get 1 free) or on sale. I've usually purchased mine from the local running store or online from Running Warehouse.
Like @PastorVincent mentioned, socks are just as important as shoes... you want to take care of your feet and don't want to be fighting blisters half the time.2 -

I just checked my feet. Yep, the Nike Dryfit has a seem that is on top of the toe, but I have never noticed it before either.3 -

Today is my 2 year runniversary! It is also my 3 year anniversary on mfp. I'm kind of proud of myself for sticking with it. I have lost ~77 pounds since I came on mfp (about 15 of that was after I started running). After I hit my original goal (of losing 60 pounds) I decided I needed some fitness goals so I downloaded the C25K app. I was never a runner before and I was a little surprised that I ended up loving it so much. I don't remember purposely starting C25K on my mfp anniversary, but I think it is kind of cool that I did. It is amazing to me how much better I feel at 50 than I did at 47.
Today's run was another awesome runner's high run. It was ~69/70F. It was still pretty humid, but it felt cool enough and I was fine as long as I was moving. Once I stopped at home I was realized how sweaty I was (I had sweat dripping off my eyelashes), but there was enough of a breeze that I wasn't bothered by it while I was running. The moon was full and it was really gorgeous out. I ran 5 miles and just felt really great the whole time. I'm just 3.9 miles from my September goal. I should be able to get that. It is supposed to rain tomorrow so I'm not sure what I'll do. I'll run in a light rain, but not if it is stormy. I guess I'll just check the weather in the morning and decide then.
@amymoreorless I hope they get your plumbing fixed soon. I can't imagine getting home and not being able to shower.

Happy runniversary @kgirlhart ! That is an amazing loss and very impressive that you kept it off and then some.4
-
@amymoreorless -- hope the landlord gets your plumbing working soon! I can't imagine how "invigorating" that cold gallon jug shower must have felt!
@kgirlhart -- congrats on your 2 and 3 yr anniversaries! Great accomplishment! Sounds like we took the same path to running... I started after losing the initial 50 lbs and running helped me meet my goal of losing 70 total, and as the story goes, I was hooked on running and just kept on.4 -
@sarahthes That's cool they made a purple tape for you I've never tried it. I wonder how it works for plantar fasciitis. How long does your pt expect you'll be off for? Hugs. Sorry about your pain.
Yay, you registered for BMO Vancouver! We'll have to figure out how to coordinate our training a little as we get closer so we can try to run it together—assuming that I can catch up and keep up! Do you have a plan in mind? When will you start official half training?0 -
