Trying to get back into the swing of things. I've been having difficulty walking since the spring, so it's been hard to get in the exercise that I need. I'm still in significant pain, but I just have to get moving. I bought a new iPod as a motivation, so now I have to follow through. :)

I just went to the gym tonight for the first time in months. All I did was walk, but at least I made it through the door and hit 10,000 steps for the day. Goals for tomorrow:

Were you in an accident or did you have an injury making it hard to walk and giving you pain? I've struggled with knees and hip problems with subsequent surgeries so know how frustrating it is to want to walk and get the exercise but not be able to because of the pain! Hope you are on the mend!

    Work-at-Home Wednesday! Yea!

I am not even going to bother making excuses for myself for all the little >:) faces I would have for how I did yesterday. The fact is, I was good all day and then came home and ate chocolate chips straight from the bag while I sat on the couch watching the Impeachment hearings and The Voice. There is no excuse...I just didn't follow through with what I knew I should be doing. So...in an attempt to get myself back on track without allowing myself to make up excuses, Just for Today, I will:
    • Journal every bite - good, bad & ugly
    • Drink 80+ oz of water
    • Work tasks: Dr. K & M's to-do follow up, add bullet points to notebook, clean folder items, look at rounding schedule and update my calendar.
    • Quilt: Sew together quilt top
    • 30 minutes of intentional activity
    • Hand weights routine
    • Prep for tomorrow: clothing / pack lunch bag / coffeemaker set
    • Early bedtime with evening routine: Skin care / Gratitude journal / DO reading / JM podcast / SA daily reading / start new Riley Paige book

    Discard 5 lbs Challenge #5
    Name: Tracie
    SW: 184.4 lb
CW: 186 lb +1.6 lb gain
    GW: 179.4 lb

Word of 2019: TENACITY I will NOT give up!

@ZizzyBumble I'm so sorry to hear your mum is ill, and I'm also sorry you will miss being with your husband during Christmastime. I'm sure that has to be a really difficult situation to be in. I do think that you've made the right decision, though, for what it's worth. I think when we have a terminally ill loved one, there are too many opportunities that could become regrets if we don't take them when they arise. Unfortunately, I've been learning that the hard way, and I wish I could give you a great big hug! xoxo

@ZizzyBumble So sorry to hear about your mom. Being torn in two directions sucks! Your DH is very wise. I agree with what was said by @PackerFanInGB You would so regret not spending that time with your mom. (((Hugs)))

I think that it is just my fibromyalgia getting progressively worse. I've had this problem every summer for the last few years, but it hasn't completely gone away this year as the weather has cooled. I am working on getting a diagnosis and keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't MS or something equally serious. Basically, my feet hurt like heck and feel like they are on fire most of the time. I had a couple of times this summer where I had to go up stairs on my butt because I could not walk, and times where I could not stand long enough to cook a meal.

I've got major health issues--5 different metabolic diseases, I'm a brain aneurysm survivor, etc. I lost nearly 100 pounds here a few years ago, but I've had a hard time finding the energy to properly take care of myself since I returned to full time work. Striking a good balance is really tricky!

@zizzybumble - I’m so sorry you had to make that decision. It’s so hard. Like others have said though, I think it’s good that you are staying with your Mom.

Well I’ve read and caught up, have just finally sat down from after work and it’s already 9pm.

I finally worked up the courage to call a dentist. I’ve been having a toothache since July. I hate dentists, I had such a traumatic experience when I was young, I haven’t been in more than 20 years. We made a plan to get everything fixed and I found out I have excellent benefits. I didn’t even have to pay a deductible.

The last two nights I’ve been working on ornaments. I have to show you the ornaments I made last night. Kaitlyn painted their faces for me.

@Faebert, hope your kids are feeling better, it's really difficult when you work and they're not well.

@ZizzyBumble , hugs to you having to make that hard decision. You'll make your Mum happy being there. Could you and your husband have your own mini-Christmas on a different day? Will you be home for New Year? You know now you live in Scotland the big celebration is on Auld Years Night? :)

    @Sowflake, love the decorations :)

    2. Before school: Check class websites. Update first directions. Get cart. Print honors project and One Pager directions.
    3. Class 1: Grammar unit 3 practice. Finish book. Project introduction?
    4. Class 2-3: Grammar unit 3 practice. Make up presentations. Chapter 3. Project introduction? Check Goodreads updates.
    5. Planning: CALL PARENTS. Read 20 pages of Stamped. Update Goodreads. Put presentation grades in PS.
    6. Run 2 miles. Drink more water. No, more. Keep the pitcher in the fridge full. You're not actually hungry. Make some tea. Drink more water!
    7. Input grades? Dinner: Pizza. PUT MAKEUP BAG IN SCHOOL BAG. TAKE LAYERS.
    8. Prep cheese and parfait. Prep celery. Pack lunch. Log all food. Set up JFT for tomorrow.
    9. Gratitude journal. Therapy exercises: lunges, push-ups, ankle lifts, box jumps, plank. Meds. Floss, rinse, brush teeth. Alarm set for 5:50.
    10. Ask about how to support new AP. Practice hair braiding with D. Check on appts for drs. Remind D to ask his dad about the table. Check with D about ceiling. START BLOGGING AGAIN. 3 posts/week? Create test for MLA format. Therapy exercises: lunges, push-ups, ankle lifts, box jumps, plank. Remember that M does not like surprises! Check dates of classes and update semester plan. Request parent meeting with KC and BW. She Should Run vision statement. Group checks for clear main idea, what else? Tuesday 11/26 writer meeting. Wed 12/5 dept meeting 7 AM. Thu 12/6 workshop; need sub plans.

    Scale goals
    End of 2017: 174.6
    End of 2018: 189.2
    January 2019: 186.0
    February 2019: 187.0
    Today: 196.2

    Ongoing plans/ideas behind the cut
    1. Purchases: Look for an "ugly Christmas sweater" and a long-haired doll at thrift stores. Practice French braiding. Go to used bookstore and look for On Writing (Stephen King), Dying for a Paycheck (Robin Hardman), The Prince (tr. Tim Parks, Russell Price, or Robert Adams), The Secret Adversary (Christie).
    2. E2: What should the controlling ideas be in a study of world literature? Review world lit options. Create vocabulary lists for each unit that come from the texts used: Animal Farm, Julius Caesar, Wes Moore, I Am Malala. Find a way to incorporate changing words from one part of speech to another. Students need to know how to review multiple sources and synthesize information in order to draw a conclusion. Need practice with the difference between transitions and overlapping (at end of paragraph - "another issue is Y" vs "there are other issues besides X"). Quit using "in conclusion" and "I believe" and other writing-about-my-writing phrases. Confusion between direct/indirect objects and prepositional phrases. Use the UDHR and the Declaration of Independence to study paraphrasing; use that to front-load Machiavelli and how to deal with challenging texts. Confusion between everyday / every day and similar constructions.
    3. E1: Need practice with quoting & paraphrasing sources, identifying claims that would need support, use of last names for reference, and capitalization practice (common/proper nouns, titles). Difficulty using possessive nouns in their own writing. Honors: practice subject/object pronouns (my friend and I / my friend and me). Poetry: Revise "Songs are Poetry" handouts.
    4. Curriculum Development: Writing mini-unit. Review scholarly research on 5PE. (I think I can have this as an intro to the research unit so that they also get exposure to how quotes are integrated and cited.) Parallel structure; use of emotional language, specific detail. Use "Write About a Pebble" lesson from Atwell. How long should each unit take? Do research on characteristics: curiosity, persistence, resilience, creativity, responsibility, optimism, courage, integrity, authenticity, leadership, self-awareness, humility, compassion - others? Include grammarly check on essays! Review assessments. What is the purpose for each unit? What should the controlling ideas be in a study of world literature? Review world lit options. Schedule assessments for Fall 2019; plan out return times. Write 1 reflection weekly; type one in Classroom by Weds. Copy-paste to PB for comments due Friday. PB usernames 6 digits, no 19 or 20s, no birthdates. Homework: Online journal Mon due Tue; Reflection Tue due Wed; C&P journal in class Wed; Comments Thu due Fri. Bonus if you are the first response; further bonus if you respond to comments on your post. Grammar practice Mon & Wed; quiz Fri.
    5. Professional Development: Write blog post weekly. Comment on 3 posts each week -Tu Th Sun? Check with PSC. Talk with Z about articles and/or conference proposals. NOTE: ATTENDED PRE FLEX DAY.
    6. Medical: Dentist Apr 30 8 AM but check on meetings and RS. Onco Apr ???. PCP Schedule for July. ObG schedule for October. PCP - allergy shots?
    7. Theater: Mary Poppins Sun Dec 8 1:15. Amen Corner Thu Dec 19 5:45. EGL Fri-Sat 3:30.
    8. House: Mineral oil on tile spots. Check with D about ceiling.
    9. Fun: Open beading on Thursdays. Coloring at library on Tuesday. Put jewelry away. Edney Hack Nights alt Weds. ASL? Spanish/Portuguese practice? Practice piano. ROL Secret Adversary. Buy new bikes and bike rack for car.
    10. Volunteering ideas: Theater. Library. Animal shelter. Community Kitchen. Emerge Georgia training.
