Things people say when you lose weight

Someone saw a picture of me in 2018, when I was at my healthiest and happiest. The comment was: "I can see how defined your cheekbones are. Youre not sick are you and havent told me?" (Umm... You met me when I was 20-30 pounds heavier. Duh.)
They meant well.9 -
My mother told me over Thanksgiving that I look a lot happier and as though I'm enjoying life more. Being in less pain and having more energy will do that.20

Yes! I love this! Important to focus on the good 😊4 -

I get the typical ones, sometimes they don't even make sense. (IMH- In my head)
"You look like a stick when you stand sideways." IMH~ Well, Don't look at me sideways!
"Where is your other half?" IMH~ You got it!
"Are you sure you are healthy?" IMH~ Blank stare!
"You don't intend to disappear do you?" IMH~ Right this second? Yes I do.
"Don't go overboard!" IMH~ Blank stare!
"You are so boring now!" IMH~ Thanks! It is a new talent I acquired.
"How much money did you waste on replacing all your clothes?" IMH~ Nothing much, same amount I used to spend on eating crap.
The good ones are:
"Whatever you are doing is working. Keep at it!"
"You inspire me!"
"Can I join you on your workouts?"
"Can you teach me a few healthy recipes that work for you?"18 -
“Would it upset you if I said you’ve got a bubble butt?”
My trainer popped out with that while I was doing box squats this morning.
I cracked up, and had to explain to her about all the MFP visitors wanting just that.

My Favorite comments:
"You look great, congratulations!"
"I am so proud of you!" (I usually get this comment from really close friends and family)
"WoW, you are such an inspiration."
"I am so motivated by your dedication."
My Least Favorite comments:
"Don't give up now." (I don't know why, but this one bugs me.)
"OMG, you are so skinny now" (This is very condescending, especially when it comes from someone who has never struggled with weight.)
"How much do you weigh now?" (None of your business!)13 -

I had to stop my BF from telling our friends my starting weight and current weight I mean, I'm glad he's proud, but that is just waaay too much info. I draw the line at saying how many kg I've lost in total!14 -
"You need to be careful. You don't want to develop an eating disorder" (I eat more now than I did...the quality of your food matters)
"You look great. What diet are you doing? or What did you do to get to this point?" (I tell them and then they respond with..."Oh, I wouldn't do all that."
And my favorite..." Since you lost weight your head looks smaller." lol12 -

Good: “You are looking fit”
Frustrating: “you don’t have any weight to lose” or “don’t get obsessed with your new diet”
The worst one that I got was "Oh, look! you're finally doing something" with a mocking shocked look.
Kinda dampens the spirits a bit.25 -

For sure! Sounds like someone that needs to be taken off the old Christmas card list. (Though honestly I'd be tempted to make a rude gesture as well.) In any case, you did it for yourself, not for them, and you still win because of that.9 -
I have to mention that people are asking if it's on purpose cause these internet articles keep telling us never to praise someone's weight loss cause maybe they are sick and it's a side effect. We just can't win.19

What people don’t say when you lose weight:
Seeing an acquaintance you haven’t seen since midway through your weight loss. Have a brief flash on intuition that their lips said one thing, but intuiting that they were privately thinking,”I wish she’d put it back on. “
Paranoia, or the occasional ability to read minds?18 -
OK I have a weird one. We went to a fancy wedding this past weekened, and I bought a great dress in a much smaller size (thanks to my weightloss). One of my close friends (I am sure was meaning this as a compliment) said " this dress makes you look super skinny " While I love the dress I kind of felt like it negated all the hard work I had put in the loose the weight and it was just "lucky" that I found a magic dress that made me look skinny.
Maybe I am being overly critical but it kind of irked me20 -

I see your point! Many people (myself included unfortunately) don't really think about what their words mean all the time. What always happens to me is that I know what I mean so I figure everybody else should, too. Well, words have specific meanings for a reason! It would really help if people took a moment to consider the message being received as well as the one that was meant.6 -
It makes me sassy when people assume I lost weight chasing my 5 kiddos around, which it does help, but come on women would be slender everywhere and obesity wouldn't be a problem if it was that easy🙈22
