Heather: I am sorry that you’re anxious when riding in a car in your area. Perhaps you will eventually gain confidence. I’ve only had serious nerves while driving in an unfamiliar area with high traffic levels. Driving in Portland OR is not a worry, although rush hour can be unpleasant. I don’t fear getting lost and know I can find my way home because we have lived in the general vicinity for many years. Seattle is another matter. There are too many lanes going too fast for my comfort. Part of the difference is familiarity. In Portland, I know where I am going and have driven the roads many times, but Seattle is a place we rarely visit and the volume of traffic is much higher. In familiar territory I feel safe when I drive and also when DH drives. I have been to major cities including New York City and Chicago but have not driven a car in either place. I have ridden in Chicago with my daughter and felt entirely safe. I’ve ridden in busses that were driven by professionals in NYC and felt safe. I can’t imagine driving a car in either city on my own. :noway: An experienced navigator who can tell me when to turn is just what I need.

Allie: Congrats on your travel plans!

I had my annual wellness exam this morning. My doctor wants me to take a bone density scan since it has been a while since the previous one.

Amber – that must have been scary for all of you

Allie – good for you going!

    Happy Bacon Day!

"In the United States and Canada, bacon is made from the pork belly. Elsewhere in the world, the side and back cuts of pork are used. The meat is cured in either a salt brine or in a salt pack. It is then either dried, boiled, or smoked. ... According to the founders of Bacon Day, we are encouraged to eat a variety of bacon while watching Kevin Bacon movies, or movies with bacon in the title."

Philip and I had a really lovely Christmas with our family. We camped out in our little RV and the rest of them filled up Dad's river house on the Blanco. On Christmas Eve about half of us went to the nearby town of Johnson City to see the beautiful Christmas light display.

We had our "make-up Christmas" with Philip's parents yesterday. The only fly in the ointment was not feeling well the whole week. I think I was past being contagious but whatever we had, it left us both really weak. It's been two weeks since I was able to work out but I'm going to try a gentle session on the ski machine today. It just figures that I took the first full week off I've had in years and then spent the whole week being sick!

I'm back at my desk today but my schedule for the week is pretty light. Our big job for tomorrow is to work on my motorcycle which has not been wanting to start. It's due for registration renewal at the end of the month and has to pass inspection before then, so depending on how things go tomorrow I may or may not be able to get it registered on time. Crossing my fingers!

Wishing good things for you all in the coming year - including plenty of bacon if you so choose!

    Hello All,

Well, I managed to catch up (mostly) within just 2 days after a 9 day hiatus. It sounds like most of you had rather nice holidays.

We had a nice trip to Baja. I managed to keep weight at bay even with all the tacos, margaritas, and churros! I think it was the diving and swimming with whale sharks. Those things looks like they’re just slowly meandering, but I can confirm, they move much faster than it appears!

The mister’s BP managed to stay in a safe range. I can only conclude that being at home in his normal routine is what causes it to increase.

Machka - I find the same with running a few times a week. It’s easier to keep the weight in check. Unfortunately, I’ve lost the motivation to do much of it lately. I think I’m bored with just running the neighborhood. I need new scenery.

Allie - That’s a place at the top of my travel wish list. Just haven’t managed to schedule it yet. I also heard the food in Peru is amazing.

Olivia was sick, right? Poor thing. I hope she has recovered by now and back to being her cute self.

I had a very bizarre thing happen to me today. I was getting something out of the freezer, bent over looking in the bottom shelf and an ice pack fell out of the top and hit me right on the head. It clunked my teeth together and gave me a very strange pain in my neck just below the jaw where my teeth hit. I still feel a little odd, several hours later. I must have flinched weirdly or something, because it wasn’t that big of an ice pack.

    2020 goals
Well, I’m still considering and quickly running out of time. I’d like to finally learn conversational Spanish, since we seem to be traveling to Spanish speaking countries lately.

I might color my hair back to it’s “natural” color, if I can remember what that is.

I want to sell one of our investment properties. In fact, that’s not an option. I’m sick of being a landlord.

I want to get a trust and “in case of death” plan in order in case something happens to both of us. We have property to consider and I’d like to avoid my family having to deal with California probate laws. Along with this is my DNR paperwork, though I’m pretty sure I’ve made that clear to my family.

And of course, the “get rid of stuff” goal. I got rid of 8 boxes of stuff a few months ago and have several more started. I need to keep at that (as the mister just brought home some useless stuff that he received as a gift). I just want to toss it.

Fitness goals - I want to get more running in again. Preferably at least 10 miles a week. Just need to find that motivation.

Socializing Goals - I need to get out more. I want to socialize with people in person more over the next year.

Anyway, more will come to me in the next few days.

I hope everyone has a great and safe slide into the new year.

(((Debbie in VA))) Don’t be so hard on yourself. Being your best means that you are striving to do well. It seems to me that you are striving to do well. We’re all working toward the goal of better health, and it is a daily challenge. You can do it.

Tina: I hope you are feeling better. :star:

I had my wellness exam for the year. I need to get a bone density scan and meet with a specialist. The bone density scan is scheduled and the specialist will call me--next year..

Hi gals. I can't remember the last time I was here, but I took up kickboxing and it is a total blast. I went again today and the trainer kicked my butt. The first plank I have ever held in my life was 30 seconds and I had to do them for 3 minutes with 10 seconds in between, or as fast as I could recover. After doing a few, then I had to tap one foot at a time to the side while holding the plank. He got right down on the floor with me and we did them together. Holy crap! But I did it! It's a lot of fun and all the water aerobics at the Y weren't giving me much of a workout even though I worked as strenuously as I could. I'll still do them at times because I like them, but I'm going to commit to 9round three times a week for 6 months. It's sort of expensive ($113/month) but with the kind of personal attention you get, plus there are no set class times, it's worth it. You come in and the instructor "loads" you into one of the 9 rounds, or stations. When you are pretty independent, a full workout takes 30 minutes.

I think I told you my oldest friend died, that was back in September. I'm still cleaning her house. Her sister in law has been going twice a week, and I go once a week, and it is slowly becoming managable. Last Saturday though I still took 8 60-gallon construction garbage bags of clothes to goodwill and SIS took 4 to a place that just pays cash for torn up stuff like clothes and towels. This is after 2 months of cleaning!

I got my heating/cooling vents, drying vent, and carpets all cleaned yesterday. They were supposed to come Saturday, but the owner's son had a flooded basement so they came yesterday, Sunday! It took nearly 6 hours and you should have seen the crap they got out of the vents. OMG. We';ve been here 13 years now and they had never been cleaned.

Well I hope you all have been well and I will try to get back here more often in the new year! Take care, Meg from Omaha

We forget how much we collect my nans house took a year to clean out, your friend was lucky to have you, great your trying new things, good luck for 2020

Allie- happy to read that you booked the trip. Have you heard anything about the job?

Lisa - I wouldn’t want to be near the snake either. I have a couple of friends that have snakes, when I visit they are safely in their homes. I agree that pranks are mean.
Thanks for sharing the article about Svalbard, I just loved reading it.

Rebecca - I’m glad you are getting the ball rolling on doing a welfare check on your son. If he doesn’t want to be embarrassed he should call home.

Heather- I don’t like driving with my husband he can be aggressive and it drives me insane. Mostly now when we go anywhere I do the driving and suffer through his back seat driving comments.

I worked today and have to work tomorrow, I have Wednesday off and then work Thursday and Friday. Friday is our granddaughter’s 4th birthday. I’m not sure where those years went!

    Have a great night
