    124.77/100 miles completed for April

436.16/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders

    Virtual Race Report:

Today I ran the Zombie's Run Spring Virtual Race. It was my first time to do one of the ZR virtual races and it was a lot of fun! You can do a 5K or 10K race. As far as I know they are the same story. I was planning to run the 5K and also use it as my Un-canceled 5K for this week. I usually run at least 5-6 miles and I wanted to get 5.75 today so I could hit my stretch goal of 200 Km for April. So I downloaded the 5K race and figured that after I hit 5K I would just use the rest of the run as a cool down.

I had a little trouble getting going this morning and I only had time for half a cup of coffee instead of my usual full cup. But I needed to get started and didn't want to slam the coffee so I got dressed and headed out. It was a bit chillier this morning at 47°F but that really worked to my advantage. Virtual races are kind of hard for me because without the competition of other runners it is easy to just run it like any training run (which is what I have mostly been doing with the "un-canceled virtual races". But the cool weather helped me to run fast and after the first mile I had a nice pace of 9:14 and I was really enjoying the story. I finished mile 2 in 9:00 and was feeling really good. I thought I put on more speed in mile 3, but finished with a pace of 9:09. This is the mile where I turn around and there is a part where there is no sidewalk and I have to run through the grass for a couple of blocks and then through some parking lots so I guess that slowed me down a little, but not terribly. I finished the 5K in 28:20 which isn't my 5K PR, but is a very good 5K time for me so I was quite happy. I slowed down and stopped the Zombies Run app on my phone and then continued on my way home.

As I was running the 4th mile I realized I was still running a pretty quick under 10 minute mile so I decided that even though I had turned off the "race" I would continue and see if I could get a good 10K time. My last 3 miles were slower than the first 3 at 9:44, 9:58 and 9:51, but I managed to finish the 10K in 58:30 which was a 10K PR for me and beat my last 10K PR of 1:00:42 so I finally got my sub 1 hour 10K. So even though I downloaded the Zombies Run 5K, I'm counting it as the 10K since that is what I actually ran.

I felt so good throughout the entire run! The weather was perfect. A little chillier than I like for a normal training run, but perfect for racing. And we are supposed to hit 100° on Saturday, 102° on Sunday and 106° on Monday, so I am not going to complain about 47°. 😊 I wore shorts and a t-shirt and was dressed just right. It was a clear morning with no wind and already starting to get light when I started. It was a really good run and a really good start to the day.

The good feeling from my run so far has carried over into my day and I have just been in a great mood. I ordered new shoes for my birthday last week and I finally got the notice that they are out for delivery today so I am looking forward to new shoes for my next run. And I got the email that the HM scheduled for May 16th has been rescheduled for November 7th. I'm really glad about that. I was afraid it would just be cancelled and I was really sad about that. But I also wasn't sure I was ready to run a race with other people from all over the state in 2 weeks. So I am ok with just having to wait and run it later. Plus the weather should be nicer in November and that should help me to get a good time.

So to sum it up: Beautiful weather, fun virtual race, great 5K time, 10K PR, new shoes coming and HM not cancelled only rescheduled. Plus today is payday! 😊 I hope everyone is having a great day too!

@kgirlhart Nice running and PR. Great pace and love the new shoes!
@Faebert congrats! I do hear you on balance. I need to strength train too!

Yes lots of good running and shoes and races and other things. Likes and hugs given all around.

Managed to get my 5 Miles on the treadmill this morning. It was pouring rain, so yeah .
Hit my stretch goal, and will try for the same in May. Foot is in pain scale of 1-2 so much better. Hoping this lasts for a long while.

Thank you so much, @Camaramandy648 and @quilteryoyo.
@katharmonic Great job on the high April mileage and great streak! Do we have another @AlphaHowls in the making?
@kgirlhart, thank you. I can only achieve a fraction of what @AlphaHowls has done - and continues to do - I am happy for any comparison to her fabulousness.

Congratulations @AlphaHowls on 2 years of being on the run. Over 11,000 miles - AMAZING!!!!

Nice job, @hanlonsk - you survived a tough month and got out there, and you should be proud.

Good work this month too, @rheddmobile! Nice miles, and 4 virtual races! I always like reading your reports. Cool to be able to observe the hawk on a regular basis.
