So I need a long term accountability buddy. Like probably at least for two years. I want to lose 180. I ask for those losing more only bc I found people who lose the weight just stop being buddies after a few months and I really need a daily contact who is interested in texting our meals of the day pics. This keeps me on track the best. Thanks for anyone interested

I can be that. I have a lot of lbs to lose. I have added you :)

@roz0810 - It’s great to have you back!! ... and welcome @angelexperiment! I’m so glad to see you quickly connected. If we take the right approach to long-term habit building and healthy lifestyle changes, we’re all in it for the long haul. You have a good attitude and I hope it spreads so nobody is discouraged over a particular number/ weight. We’re all working on different goals but we’re supporting one another to build lifelong changes for the better ... Thanks for joining!

Do you have some specific, manageable goals that you’ve set for yourself in the short-term?

This week is packed with work so I’m going to try to get to bed early so I can fit in a run/workout or two in the morning. This is a shift from my usual rowing (which I’m still scheduled to do on Thursday) so I might need some encouragement .... especially since I’m already feeling the pull of some evening distractions 😬. Best wishes for the coming week! Go get those goals!!

@renaegry - I just saw your message above about feeling discouraged about a gain after having such a good week of nutrition and working out. I had a similar experience with an uplifting result the following day so I thought I’d mention it here as an incentive to stand tall and be proud of your positive choices....

I‘ve been fluctuating between 142 and 144 pounds with a goal of getting under 140 by the end of the month. I had a few great exercise days, etc. but I got on the scale on Sunday at 144. I was disappointed - but resigned myself to missing my goal this month and making additional adjustments in October - and then Monday, I was shocked to weigh in at 141 ... and then today at 139.8. I still may not reach my goal because I don’t really count a new weight as progress until it’s steady beyond one week ... but it feels as though I’ll be on target soon and ready to set a new goal. Hang in there and try not to pay as much attention to the fluctuations as the overall (downward!!) trajectory.

And welcome @foxkristiana7214! Your expertise, experience as an elite athlete, and knowledge of Exercise Science & Wellness will really enhance this group. I’m so sorry to hear about your traumatic experience and thanks for sharing your story of resilience and strength. Congratulations on your ability to cope through the challenges and reach out to other specialists in nutrition to support your latest goals. Good for you!!

@renaegry mentioned some new soreness as a result of recent workouts and it made me think about when I was young and sore from sports. So, now I try to reframe my soreness as a sign that I’m still young ☺️. I may not fool anyone else as I limp down the stairs in the morning, but I’m convincing myself ... 🤣

@PatriceFitnessPal thanks. My weight has dropped back down and then another 0.4. Not much but I will take it. You are in the same spot I was 2 years ago but then I put on 15 lbs over the summer. Didn’t quite reach my sept goal of under 160 was 162.4. But hope to be 158 by the end of October. And below 150 by the end of the year.

Goal today is to go for a run this very chilly morning and do some weights.

Will try to get caught up on the posts later today.

    Happy October all

Happy October 1st to all my accountabilibuddies! Butters never had it so good. Here is yesterdays exercise. I live in the country and I walk my section, once in the am and once in the pm. it's a one mile square so 4 miles. Total yesterday was 24k steps and 13 miles.

    Hello all!

I'm completely willing to have someone text my phone directly to help make sure I'm on the right track. I know with lockdown and all, that I'm not as active as I used to be. I also sit at a computer for hours on end, so I need that push to get up and be active as much as I can.
Also looking for long term accountability/friendship because I didn't get this weight overnight and it's going to take longer than a day to get down to a healthier size.

I'm also willing to be in someone's life like that if they need it. Or discord app, or Zello (walky talkie app) Whatever you need! Feel free to add and we can talk about it.

    I’m back 🤣

I have been exercising most days and then going over my calories everyday and wondering why the scales not budging. 🤦‍♀️ But then I realized today that I had my calorie budget set to “not very active” which is probably why I’m always feeling like I’m starving! 🤣 So I changed it to very active and we’ll see what happens!

How is everyone doing? I hope all is well with you all 💕

@roz0810 and @renaegry, I’m so glad to hear about your consistent progress. Gradual and steady change is the best route to long term success!

@michaeldaily4927 - That’s an impressive amount of walking ... Great job! Your daily morning and evening walks sound like a wonderful way to start and close out the day. I’d love to build a daily habit like that. Maybe when the cold weather sets in, and I can’t get out on the river to row, I can build in more daily walking. Do you keep up the same schedule throughout the year?

@CaendyLuL - Welcome to the group to both you and @michaeldaily4927! I post my goals here each week and then try to report my progress a couple times during the week, while also checking in to see how others are doing. It’s a good idea to send some reminders to move away from the computer throughout the day. I’m suffering a bit with a shoulder injury because I have to improve my posture and workspace set up. Thanks for the reminder to make some physical therapy (PT) appointments now that the clinics are scheduling more in-person appointments. Telehealth didn’t work as well for me because the best part of the session is when the therapist massages the area that hurts ... I’ll put up with the exercises in exchange for the massage but they’re not worth it if I only get a virtual consultation! 😂

@beshamama - It’s good to hear from you! I’m in a similar situation and your comment is insightful. Let us know how your new strategy works. I’m still hovering at 142-143 and didn’t reach my goal of getting under 140 by the end of September. I’m generally on track so I’m not going to worry. There were a couple of times my husband wanted to have a glass of wine with dinner - or we met friends for a beer outside at the local ‘Biergarten’ to celebrate a neighbor’s retirement- which is all part of learning to balance nutrition, energy burned and the occasional surprise ... that forces me to consider varying my plan for the day. I just have to recognize the choices and trade offs I’m making.

I switched out some summer and winter items in my closet and my clothes fit much better so that’s my non-scale victory (NSV) for the month! Did anyone else have a scale or NSV to celebrate this week? If so, let us know so we can help you celebrate! 🎉

I’m not changing my goals much this week. I can only row a few days because my annual physical will interfere one day but I’ll just try to stay under my daily calories that day, unless I go over my target (like I did big-time one day this week!). If that happens, I’ll add an extra run and workout on Friday. My daily calories are set a little low because I know most people underestimate their intake and overestimate energy burned. So, if I go over the allotment by 200-300, I don’t mind; however, I was off by about 600 calories yesterday, because I also missed my usual long row early Saturday. I was too tired to wake up early after being up later than planned on Friday ... Actually, after that reflection, I’ll add one more goal this week: Turn off the news and get back on a good sleep cycle. Cheers for a fantastic week everyone! Go get those goals!

@PatriceFitnessPal 2nd day of my new calorie budget and I feel full. Yesterday I was under my budget by quite a bit and didn’t feel like I was starving.

I’m getting bored with my workouts so am thinking of going on a bike ride everyday it’s not raining. I’ll have to figure out a time to do this. Could wake up early....but ugh I am not a morning person at all and won’t do it. I’ll figure something out.

    This weeks goals:
*Stay under calorie budget most days
    *Work out everyday
*Go biking at least once this week(more would be better)

@beshamama - Thanks for the update. I’m so glad your new nutrition setting is working well for you! How is the new exercise plan going? We’re you able to schedule a time that works for a bike ride?

How is everyone else doing? Are you feeling good about meeting your goals this week?

I’m on a flight getting ready to visit my family. My mother had a health setback (blood clot, etc.) that could have been life-threatening but my sister is a nurse and caught it early. She’ll need some follow-up care until she’s feeling stronger and stabilizes her medicine. My son is staying in the upstairs apartment while attending college nearby so it’s a good opportunity to check in with both generations. I’ll need a new exercise routine while visiting but I had a good report from the doctor at my annual physical yesterday so I’m motivated to keep the momentum going. All my lab work was in the right range and I weighed 140, which is just shy of my goal to get under that number by the end of September. Thanks for all the support!

The doctor agreed that tracking nutrition and exercise is a great habit for maintaining good health so keep up the good work! Go get those goals!

@PatriceFitnessPal sending you and your family good vibes and love 💕

I finally got to go on a little mini bike ride today. My daughters don’t want me going alone so I can only go when they are done with school work. It’s sweet and I don’t mind.

We’re going camping again this weekend. Our campsite is a walk-in one this time. I am very excited about this!

@beshamama - I hope you enjoy the long weekend and camping trip! Are the leaves changing color where you are? ... or where you camped. It must be a lovely time to be outside.

Your bike ride seemed to be a fun activity to enjoy with your daughters. It’s always nice to find a way to share an experience that strengthens the relationships among family members. 😍

I’m posting my goals for the week and look forward to hearing how others are doing.

    Goals:
-Cook healthy food options for my mother while I’m visiting and invite my son to join us (while striking a balance by honoring his independence)
-Run along the beach and park everyday and finish with a steep hill at least 50 percent of the time
-Sleep at least 7 hours each night, with a goal of 8
-Visit and help other family members to the extent possible while finishing work assignments, etc.

The last goal is not really measurable so I’m just counting other opportunities to meet friends and family in the area as a bonus of my visit, which is mainly focused on setting up a family plan to support my mother through recent health challenges and the typical increasing needs that come with aging (and a fierce independent streak)!

Best wishes in meeting your goals this week!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking but not posting, so I thought I'd post today. I weighed myself last week and was not happy. I have roughly 40 weeks until I turn 40, so I have set a new goal. My daughter has been supportive by throwing down some slam ball exercises with me and I'm going to try to get her to do a workout video with me. I've been walking outside again even though my allergies hate it with a passion. Thanks to covid, we are not having a family Thanksgiving this year. I guess the bright side to that is reducing the tempting treats the holiday brings.

I hope everyone is continuing on the right course and celebrating each and every little victory that you accomplish.

@PatriceFitnessPal the leaves were beautiful!! We hiked 2 miles each day which was awesome. The weather was perfect too!
    Goals this week:
    Continue to work out everyday
Stay under my calorie budget most days
I also should stop staying up till 2am every night 🤦‍♀️ So I am gonna try to get to bed at a reasonable time this week.
Also try to get a bike ride in.

Hello everyone! I would love to be part of this group. I’ll be the old gal here, 70 in January 2021), older and trying to be a bit wiser, emphasis on “trying” 😌. Three years ago my life tragically turned upside down. I did not handle it well, imbibed in too much wine, ate poorly and too much, and stopped getting exercise. I gained 30 lbs in addition to the 10 lbs I needed to lose and was very unhappy. Not a pretty sight. Enough!

So I am here, mostly in a good place mentally, and ready to take back my life. I really need to lose the 30 lbs, would like to get rid of 40 lbs. I sounds like a gargantuan task to me, so I will break it down into 5 lb increments.

At each 5 lb loss, I plan to celebrate my success and gift myself with a non food reward. Something that I would not normally do for myself. In pre-COVID times, I would of loved to get a nice massage, something to feed the body and soul, and without any calories! I don’t want to buy any clothes. I look forward to wearing some old favorites again. Now I must be more creative. Any suggestions?

So, who will join my 5 lb incremental weight loss (goals) and celebrate each achievement with each other? It’s like breaking the elephant in the room down into bit sized pieces. Let’s go!!!!

    Sharon

@driheataz Hi! I like your breaking the elephant in the room into smaller chunks 🤣 This is great advice! I keep looking at the long term...20+lbs that I want gone. 5lbs seems so much more doable!

I have been trying to get into the habit of working out everyday. To help me with this goal I made myself a deal that if I worked out everyday for a week I would gift myself something. I am a crafter so my rewards have been geared towards that. I recently got a new sewing machine so I have been gifting myself fabric and patterns. I also don’t want to spend all this time and $ on a dress that isn’t gonna fit so I’m holding off on seeing it till I get down maybe 10lbs? I also have been buying myself crafting magazines. But I am guilty of mostly knitting for my daughters and other people and hardly me! I need to allow myself to be a selfish knitter. Maybe if I lose 5lbs in a month I’ll knit myself a pair of socks? 😊
