Did a shop this morning instead of writing,
but it is getting hot this week. It was fairly civilised. I had a couple of masks with me, but didn't need to use them. I still hand sanitize the minute I get outside, plus handles etc.
My son has organized a meet up AT LAST on the beach at 4pm on Thursday. I told DH that we would buy the ice creams.
It's forecast to be very hot. I will wear my big hat.
I have a great video of my son having a go at paddleboarding for the first time and the kids all standing on the beach shouting "Stand up, Daddy!" He didn't.
Zooming at 3pm with my girlfriends, so must get a bit of rowing in first.

These are DH's two daughters, taken at the beginning of the lockdown. The younger one on your left moved in with her sister and is still there.
And this is a photo she took on a walk in her local woods. You can see London appearing in the distance like a zombie city from a scary movie.

Not as rainy as Monday! But still rainy.
300 mm (11.8 inches) of rain fell on Mt Wellington over a period of 3 days, with 175 mm of that occurring in one 24-hour period. Mt Wellington looms over Hobart.

Lower lying areas got less. We're at about 58 mm (2.3 inches).
And it's still raining. It's supposed to keep raining throughout Wednesday.
I've been feeling kind of blah and unmotivated, but we did get out and walked around the shops a little.
I've been advised to get button-up nightgowns and/or tops for when I have my surgery, so I picked another one up today. I don't usually wear button-up anything. I prefer pullover tops.
I also got a pair of very furry grey slippers that slip on quite easily so that I don't have to lean over to put them on. My usual slippers are boot-like or moccasin-like and require slightly more effort.
I got my husband all sorts of loose and comfy clothes when he was in hospital 2 years ago, so he's set for his surgery day after tomorrow.
Washed towels today. Will wash sheets tomorrow so that everything is all fresh and clean for him. Everything gets hung dry inside because it's way too wet outside!
And I've got the ingredients to make a few slow cooker meals for us so that my husband doesn't have to cook.
Just a bit apprehensive.

(((Allie))): This is a tough situation and you gave Sean & Jean good advice. It is good news that your SIL called palliative care.
Heather: Your DH’s daughters have great smiles. I think they were smart to move in together during the pandemic. I can imagine how lonely I might feel under lockdown by myself. It is good that they have one another. The photo of the countryside with London in the distance is charming. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I’m thinking about all that rain and your lovely beach. I hope you’re nice and dry, safely above the high tide zone.
Yesterday a neighbor criticized a shrub in our hedge that has been there well over a decade. Years ago the plant that was there drowned in a flood. We couldn’t find a match for the rest of the hedge and put in a different evergreen shrub. I did the best I could at the time. I didn’t appreciate the criticism and was not happy that DH privately agreed with her. I’m still unhappy about it. I think I’ll put him on the task of finding a replacement that is the same cultivar as the rest of the hedge and an appropriate size. :grumble:

Yep - the wood is pressure-treated, and should go to silver after this winter. I was pleased with how it turned out--I wanted it very neutral, and not dark. It's used most in the summer, and that dark green wood soaked up heat, to the point of being uncomfortable.
I was even more pleased with my husband, who told me, "I almost gave you advice on how to get that done this weekend, but I didn't say a word, and you did it just like I would have." High praise indeed.
Although he did add, "but not with hair ties."
To explain, when I spoke to him on the phone at lunch yesterday, I told him I was drilling holes in the slats, and he said, "Oh good, you found the clamps." I told him no, I was using hair ties to cinch three slats to the old board to use the old one as a drill pattern.
He shakes his head a lot when he's around me. Wonder if he's got ear mites?
Late getting to the elliptical, but still trundling down the hall to get it done. Feeling quite virtuous.

We haven't been down to the beach since the rain started but I've heard waves crashing for 2 days now. There's a decent swell out there and the high winds have probably been helping it along.
And all the rivers around are in flood ... probably pouring into the bay.
If it clears at all tomorrow, I hope to walk down there.

One thing on my list for when I've got time is to work on my piano. I got to Grade 3 in the Royal Conservatory of Music ... which isn't a lot ... and got too busy and lost interest. But eventually I'd like to pick it up again. My mother played the piano.
But this is brilliant.

Had a great Zoom, although one of our number was missing. She probably just forgot as it was a different day to usual.
I was delighted that I was able to share the screen. I am using my Android tablet and there seemed to be no option for sharing the screen, it just changed from one person to another when someone spoke. So, I googled a question and found out that you have to swipe left for a shared screen. How was I supposed to know that? Anyway, it worked and I could see them all.
Salmon and asparagus tonight. Royal Jersey potatoes for DH.

Hi everyone. sure a lot of new names. Seems like I have been gone a life time. Thanks Heather and Barbara. This virus has sure made a strange year. We were the hardest hit place in Nebraska, but things have calmed down a lot, we are still on lockdown for the most part. The hospital I work at has been really busy with the patients and testing. I have been working 45-55 hour weeks as I had 3 people quit and since we are a 24\7 dept someone has to be here. I have hired one person and they are to start July 14th and that will help a lot.
Also I have been having a problem with hives. They started on Jan 12 and kept spreading more everyday. I have been to 4 doctors and had biopsy and tests. Only thing they tell me is I have hives. They got to the point I had them all over, face and everywhere and everyday. I am finally on meds that are helping and I am having spots of breakout every couple days. So praying they just go away like they came.
And with all this my eating is out of control and I have felt so weak. Also in Jan I was told I have iron deficient anemia and my blood count was low. I had so many blood tests I told the doctor no wonder I had low blood count. So they put me on iron pills and slowly it is coming up. I still get tired quick and weak. One day at a time. Lisa - I had to laugh at your hair ties being used as a "clamp". I remember my Dad walking in on me one time when I was trying to use ribbon as a way to measure. He was appalled that I wouldn't have gone and got a measuring tape from him.
Machka - My grandmother started piano lessons around her 70th birthday. She bought herself an electric organ and took lessons for 2-3 years. My brother took an interest in it and for a couple of years they travelled together on Saturday mornings to take lessons. I know the keys, but really never had an ear for it.
Heather - I'm so happy you will be having a meet up with your family.
Katla - Did DH agree to just shut her up? I've been known to do that at times.
Allie - I'm so glad that Jean is calling for an assessment. It will be eye opening for her I'm sure.
I went to my youngest daughter's last night so she could cut and colour my hair. We followed the rules as set out for the salons that are open here and enjoyed a nice visit. My eldest daughter uses my Amazon account regularly to order things and had a couple of parcels at my house, I took them with me and she came to pick them up. So I had a visit with both of my girls last night. It was very nice but will probably be the last one for a few months again.We have more cases now than we had throughout all of this in Edmonton. Today and tomorrow all staff and residents are being tested, I think that the government has asked for this so that there is a record showing that none of us have it and then they will open up for visitors again. I am torn on this. I believe that it's needed because the isolation from family is having ill effects on the residents, but on the other hand they are safe.

DH doesn’t like the plant either. I don’t feel all that well supported. I could not find the right cultivar after the flooding & did the best I could. The rest of the hedge is boxwood. We looked and couldn’t find any at the time so we put in a different evergreen shrub.
If the homeowners association decides to make a change for all the water damaged hedges I’ll likely go along with it.
We have a know it all bully in our community.

Chetco effect brought 80+F today, all windows and doors open. Yep there's another bug to catch and release. Asked Joe to please hang up the magnetic screen. He's reluctant, he gets tangled up in it (he's such a boy), but I whined "puhleeeeze" and he agreed. We'll see.
