I don't generally bother trying to retort other people's opinions contrary to mine on this or any other forum but I am confused why anyone would disagree w/my prior comments in general and what in particular people take issue with.
Nothing I said previously is incorrect. I believe in "science" and I read the news about C-19 everyday.
It's a fact, that C-19 is an "insidious" disease and until "herd immunity" is achieved thru vaccination or infection WORLD WIDE, everyone will still have to wear a mask, socially distance and maintain other santitary practices to avoid catching it.
And, it is still possible to catch C19 even if you do all that.
So, I'd be curious to hear what people are specifically taking issue with in my prior statement so that we can get the "facts" straight.9 -
Sorry u caught it but u somehow lapsed in taking the necessary precautions to prevent it.
That DOES NOT make it ur fault and I'm in NO WAY trying the blame the "victim" but this is an insidious disease that's far most infectious and debilitating than the common flu, wc has all but disappeared w/ the C19 precautions.
I have not gotten C19 "YET" despite going to the PO, grocery store, gas station and other places regularly.
This doesn't mean that I still can't get it but I'm doing what I can 2 to prevent it by wearing an N99 equiv mask, social distancing and not touching my face w/o washing my hands or distenfecting them w/IPA 1st.
Really not much else that u can do and even if u get vaccinated u still have at least a 5% chance if catching it, even if u still wear a mask, socially distance and wash/disinfect ur hands.
Sorry 2 say, it is what it is.

JMO but your 1st 2 sentences were confusing to me. You say it was a lapse on her part but then say you're not trying to blame the victim.
Then the next 2 sentences state you haven't gotten Covid yet and doing all you can to prevent that.
Put that all together and it feels, TO ME, that you were saying they were at fault by not doing all they could do to prevent getting it.
Maybe that wasn't your intention at all and it's difficult sometimes to not read things behind written words so maybe I'm wrong. I cannot speak for everybody else who disagreed but those were my thoughts. As I said in my previous reply to your post, unless we stay in a bubble dressed in a Haz-Mat suit, everybody is fair game.

Where much better and I was very upset, but we're really on the mend she's eating all her meals now though mostly pureed and drinking her liquids, getting naps and watching some TV, still slow healing for her she's a bit fatigued still as the doctors say you can be after isolation and we continue to isolate for this reason. But much better overall since she came home.
What are you doing to stay safe from covid in Australia? Are you out at work? The stores for food?

Since applespearsncakes hasn't replied yet and I'm in Australia too I'll give my take on where I am. We have zero Covid so don't need to really do anything much. I am still careful so wash my hands and use sanitiser. The shops all have some for you to use before entering if you want to use it. No masks needed here but I have some ready if things change on day (we are in North Queensland). We had a short while when some worked from home but most are back in their place of work. Brisbane has had the odd very small cases of COVID and if they pop up things get shut into lock down quickly for a brief period but otherwise it's all things as usual basically here. They do still have tables spaced in restaurants and we are told to social distance etc.. but it's not really an issue for now. If other states have an outbreak we shut the boarders fast in most states. Any Aussies returning from overseas must go into the governments choice of quarantine hotel for two weeks at their own expense. At first they had plenty of time to come home and stay at them and the government paid for it all but that period is over now.
I should add that our figures show a few cases most days but if you read carefully they are almost always only the international travellers that flew in and quarantined till they are known to be virus free.5 -
I am a home health and hospice RN. Even though I wore all PPE and was super diligent I still contracted Covid from a patient. Patient did ultimately pass from Covid.
I was infected on 12/4 and am STILL unable to return to work due to long covid symptoms.
I barely remember the first 2 weeks I was so very sick.
I am in my 40s and in good health. I came straight home and we all strictly isolated for over 2 weeks due to fevers and cough not improving after the 10 day period.
Hubby stayed in our RV and my dauvhter stayed downstairs. Thankfully no one else contracted the virus.
It is frustrating seeing some follow all CDC recommendations and still get sick while some that follow none stay healthy.
It is such a new virus with so many unknowns but I assure all that masking, hygeine and isolating do help. If we ALL followed the recommendations from the very beginning things would likely not have gotten this bad.
Thankfully we do have the vaccine, we now just need to get it to everyone.
Healthy foods, fluids and rest. Try to not stress or worry about things you cannot change. Maybe work in some mindfulness meditations. Headspace and Insight Timer are great resources for this.
These are the best things you can do for yourself ans your loved ones.

I usually don’t comment on posts like this, but your comment is not only incorrect but irresponsible. I know you mean well, and I’ve enjoyed your posts so far that I’ve seen, but please don’t continue to spread this myth. He is working diligently to correct this type of misinformation.
Hi what did you feel was misinformation, its true most mask were recommended to wear don't work unless there n95 or kn95 or something similar. And we can't go wrong taking vitamins in my doctors opinion.
And the media does share alot of mis information.
And the hospitals do have it better together than In the beginning, some more than others.
If you know something we should know please share.
My mom did get an approved drug for covid, along with pain meds, o2 and IV fluids along with her regular meds.

To answer your question, it was the generalization of her comments I bolded that are dangerous. If people believe masks don’t matter and the pandemic is unpredictable than people don’t follow best practices to alleviate the spread.
The information I have is no secret of course, but it is easily accessible to all on cdc.gov. I just checked it today myself and it discusses masks fairly. When people spread the idea that “cloth masks don’t work. Even people who do everything they can to prevent it still get it, so why try?” then the hospitals receive the impact of that misinformation. When the guidelines are followed, such as wearing masks in the correct manner, social distancing, and sanitizing frequently, hospitals decrease in numbers and the spread is lessened. Frontline workers like my husband, who are the ones saving lives, implore us to do our part. It is not unpredictable, and we are not helpless. We should be listening to medical professionals and scientists, not a political party, IMO. And like you said, supporting and helping each other 🙏🏻

I have to strongly disagree, for the US. The recommendations from the beginning were intended to avoid ICU overload, not stamp out the virus. The US strategy was never to squash the virus, as New Zealand and many isolated Asian countries chose to do. Maybe the US should have pursued that strategy, but we didn't. We are exactly were we should have expected to be, with each city or region adjusting their restrictions in response to local infection/hospitalization rates.

I did not mean guidelines were to "stomp out the virus". There isnt any way to do that unless herd immunity is achieved.

Also, frontline healthcare workers are NOT being paid via government funding like everyone else when forced to quarantine awaiting test results.
We are also not paid when off due to infection.
L and I will cover 40 to 60% of your base pay.
My husband drives truck and was told he had to quarantine for 14 days due to my covid infection.
His employer covered 100% of his wages which the government pays back.
They say frontline healthcare workers are exempt from this wage replacement.
I take some offense to the comment insinuating we shouldn't get special treatment as this is our job.
Then military people who sign up are also just doing what they signed up for?
Firefighters, paramedics?
I was a Trauma 2 ER RN before this.....not doing anything special......just our jobs?
I do not want hero treatment but definitely feel hazard pay and being paid 100% of our wages when infected doing a job not many are willing to do is the LEAST that could be done.
We DO deserve respect. We have worked much harder and longer under much more stress and a sfressed to breaking system.
Only someone that has no clue what healthcare workers and nurses are actually doing for communities right now would make such an asinine comment.

Most people I know (over 55) have 'sheltered in place' other than necessary errands, faithfully following the mask/social distancing. When life resumes to the next level here the outbreaks skyrocket. Herd immunity (like all previous viruses) via resuming to normal life (which will happen now w/election over) will be the answer along with the vaccine to protect the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions.1

Respect NEEDS to be given to workers such as you, verbally and financially!!! What happens to anyone's morale in their profession when not treated right? It's a huge kick in the teeth. You'd have to be superhuman to not need that type of feedback to be doing your kind of work.
But unfortunately, I see it through local agencies as well. Home health workers that are getting a little above minimum pay and then the agency has such a huge turnover, yet they're surprised???? Over the past year, I've personally witnessed dozens of aides and homemakers leaving the agency due to higher pay elsewhere, not to mention politics and bureaucracy. One of my sister's favorite LNAs is leaving Home Health due to lousy pay, the agency not working with her or showing appreciation; ex. a new person is getting the same pay as this LNA who's been there 11 years. Something is totally off the mark.
IMO if an establishment of any kind is lucky enough to have qualified and dedicated workers in their system, they should do whatever they can to keep them.

I didn't disagree with you but I'll attempt a response. It may be "Australian English" or just the way internet interactions are but many of your posts seem to have condescending/judgmental/air of superiority tone/comments in them (see bolded above).
I'm thinking some people scroll by, see your screen name and hit disagree regardless of what you say.8 -
I can say it was totally 100% not meant that way at all but whatever.. people can take things as they like. I was only stating the facts and nothing more. The part about not wearing a mask was because they were rude by disagreeing instead of saying what was incorrect in their eyes and probably don't wear a mask when they should so not sorry about that part.0
