*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?

Sounds like you had a great run yesterday @polskagirl01 ! Enjoy finding new places to run.
@Tramboman The robins are here all year, so that would not be a good harbinger of spring here, even though I used to think it was. You're doing great with your runs.
@katharmonic Such a pretty place to run. I love sun on snow. It's so pretty. Funny, when I took Tippy out this morning there was a huge frost and clear skies. I said, "Oh look. It's all sparkly." Not quite the same, but pretty nonetheless.
@kirstymn Glad you are getting your runs in. Be careful in the heat though.
@TheMrWobbly I hope your knee stops grumbling better soon.
@AlphaHowls Glad you were able to get outside and run! That must have felt like heaven.

I had a wonderful run today. It was a little windier than I like, but it was warm and the sun was shining. I almost was a little too warm at the end which was nice for a change and so much nicer than last week. It was 55°F at the start and 62°F by the time I got home. It is hard to believe that the same time last week it was 12°F feels like -5° and snowing when my husband and I ran around the block. And that wasn't even the coldest day. Today the sun was shining and it was really nice. I would have preferred not having 18 mph winds, but it was still great running weather. I saw tons of birds. I saw male an female cardinal, the usual doves, sparrows and mockingbirds and lots of robins. @tramboman I guess all your robins are hanging out in Texas. I often see robins, but it seems like I've been seeing even more than usual lately.
The streets were clear today, but the creek is still pretty icy. I know many of you are used to frozen waterways, but I don't ever remember seeing the creek freeze before. I 've seen some frozen stock tanks (ponds) but not the creek. The lake was frozen too. Not entirely, but pretty far out from shore.

A friend is training for a marathon at the end of March and had 20 miles on her scheduled for today. I ran 14 of the 20 kind of with her. She is faster than I so after the first couple of miles she took off and I ran my own thing and she ran hers but it was good that we were still out there together. We ran on a rails-to-trails where the marathon will be held. It was 17F when we started so everything was frozen. After I finished 14, I had a snack and changed clothes and then walked a little bit and sat in the sun while she finished up. Turned out to be a beautiful sunny afternoon.
@shanaber – I forgot to add the photo when I first posted and went back several minutes later and edited the post to add it – so, no you’re not going crazy!
@quilteryoyo – So glad you didn’t pull anything loose when you fell! Very neat that you had a role in Desert Storm also with the satellite launch. I adopted a soldier during Desert Storm and he sent me a US flag that flew over the Multi-International HQ in Kuwait in my honor (at least that’s what the certificate says). I felt very undeserving but treasure it and have it proudly displayed in a keepsake box.
Sounds like quite the adventurous run @rheddmobile!
@katharmonic – The 218 miles was split between the two of us. I don’t think I could have done it on my own with my increased workload in Jan/Feb plus the weather being an issue some days. I’m no @AlphaHowls! Beautiful sky in your picture!
@kirstymn – Sorry things have been so hectic for you I hate it when work interferes with my running! I saw a cute saying today:
Sorry for the knee issues @TheMrWobbly. I missed how you injured it but I hope it stops grumbling soon!

I tempted fate and took Tippy back in the field again. It was sunny, 54°F, and windy, so the top of the ground had dried a lot. I didn't have to side step the mud, which was my down fall, literally, yesterday.
@kgirlhart What a difference a week makes! The creek does look like it's thawing some. I wouldn't try ice skating or anything. Glad you had a great run!
@AlphaHowls Glad you were able to get outside and run! That must have felt like heaven.
*sighs* It was, until mile 3.7 and I took a fall. Bad negotiation on my part, slight scrapes to the palms and jarred my right hip. It really did feel like spring though, except for all the snow and slush...
Tried again on the virtual race route in the forest. Temperatures went back down to zero overnight, so the melty snow in the forest was now crunchy snow & ice, so I used screw shoes and nordic poles. It helped, but I did find myself having to concentrate more on form with the poles. Even though I missed a turn, stopped to take out my phone and take a picture, then realized my mistake and had to go back, I improved my time by 6 1/2 minutes over 7k - so almost a minute faster per km. I'm happy with it, unless the trails clear up this week
It's supposed to be warm all week. Melt, snow, melt!
Oh no @AlphaHowls ! Sorry about your fall. I hope you are okay today. That feels like mother nature was adding insult to injury after being cooped up for so long.
@ContraryMaryMary Good for you! I really want to do that too. It's one thing I wish I had been able to do as a child, but couldn't. Maybe I should put that on my bucket list for after I heal up.
@polskagirl01 Great increase in pace! Beautiful running route. I hope the snow melts and you have better conditions to "try" again. Even though, slippery mud can be just as bad, I would think.
It rained on me when I was walking the dogs, but it had stopped by the time I got back out for my run. Roads about 99% clear and it was nice to go out in just shorts and a long sleeve t-shirt.
@AlphaHowls so sorry for your mishap on the road. That is the 2nd time in recent memory you have had a spill while running. I'm sure it's just bad luck, but getting worried about you

Today felt like a really long day. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with the VA this morning trying to straighten out some paperwork so they will pay for dad's hospitalization. I got basically no where...except I know who can't help me. I guess that's something. Then, I went to town and paid dad's funeral expenses - we finally got his life insurance check over the weekend. We also had a meeting with the lawyer for zoom probate court. After I did all of that, I worked at daycare for 2.5 hours, filing some of the children's paperwork and helping in the office.
I was tired, but made myself go down and do a slow treadmill walk. It goes pretty fast when watching the game shows.

Oh nice! Thanks @skippygirlsmom. I did sign up so I'm looking forward to getting the medals. I am glad to have January and February done and I'm hopeful for a little warmer weather for the March one. Hope you are continuing to heal up well!
I was doing a warmup run on the treadmill before strength class tonight. I was trying to get to 3 miles and it was going to be tight but I was kicking it up a little to make it. Then I was interrupted by a phone call that I had to take, because it was good news about a promotion at work!! So I didn't get my 3 miles but it was worth it.

Cloudy, mid 30s F, with a little drizzly rain driven by a gusty southwest wind. Heard a robin and saw a bunch of geese flying around.
