Body water

I've just got a new weighing scale that measures body water. Can somebody tell me if this body water measurement is the same as water retention or are these two separate things? Thanks

Your body contains a surprising amount of water in your cells and organs, about 60% of you is water. If you were retaining water heavily that might go up a bit. So the water it “measures” is essential and nothing to worry about. As a side note, scales that measure water and body fat are unreliable and can be effected by all sorts of external stimuli so they’re okay, but don’t get hung up on them.

Nothing to do with water retention really...the human body is comprised of roughly 55-65% water...most of the human body is water.

Not really something I'd pay attention to at all...outside of a medical condition like edema, there really isn't any need to track this at all. Getting all hung up on water and water weight is a fools errand and completely meaningless.
