Great hike and report @katharmonic ! Love the pictures and only one to go! That's amazing. The views are also amazing. Do you know how far you can see from the summit?
@rheddmobile Great job. That is very steep and sounds like very rugged terrain. You had a great pace increase from the first time.0 -

Sunny, low 50s F, and no wind this morning. Neither my legs nor my lower back were happy about yesterday's 6k, so I lazily dialed it back this morning. Don't think I'm going to run 58k tomorrow, so I might end up short of goal.

A couple of friends and I decided that Wednesday would be our hill day so we ran the hilly route this morning and plan on hill repeats next week. One of the girls is training for a trail marathon and it certainly won’t hurt the rest of us. Today’s run brings me to 105.28 for the month.
Amazing comeback from that broken ankle @skippygirlsmom!
Lovely hike @katharmonic! Isn’t it funny to think of hiking for 8 hours is a “shorter” day? The views are gorgeous and the blue of the sky is just amazing!
Great pace improvement on your new trails @rheddmobile.

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but I did run. I decided not to worry about what Hal said and to just use my own judgment for my runs. Yesterday the plan said base run of 4.5 miles in 45 minutes, average pace 9:54. That is not a base run pace for me. Plus it was warm and humid again yesterday. So I just ran by feel. I ended up with 5.5 miles in 1 hr 1 min, average pace was 11:07. But it was a good run and I enjoyed it. And Hal gave me 109% and said "right on target ". Go figure 🤔
Today the plan was 4 miles in 36 minutes at HM pace of 9:03. That is a pace that would get me a sub 2 hour HM. My goal is to beat my time of 2:11 from last year. So I ended up running 4.03 miles in 40 minutes. My average pace was 9:57 which is a little slower than I want to be on race day, but much more of my HM pace. I had negative splits and the last mile was at a pace of 9:32. So I felt really good about this run. Then I ran another .5 mile home as a cool down. Hal gave me 90% today. I'm going to keep following the plan, but I am not going to worry too much about the paces. I think the paces the app is giving me are faster than I want to go. I plugged my pace today into a race pace calculator and it said 2 hrs 10 minutes which beats my time at this race last year and really that is my goal.
In the past when training for a race I have tried to do 1 day of speed work, 1 long, slow run and the other runs at an easy pace. This was advice that @PastorVincent gave. I also like the idea of running the last couple of miles of the long run faster. Thanks @carsonsurfs. I am going to try to incorporate that into my long runs while training. Mostly I just like to run and when not training for something specific I just run for about an hour 3 times a week and about 1.5 to 2 hours once a week.
@treresa502 and @rheddmobile Great job on your races!
And thanks for rhe info on the Apple watches @shanaber and @rheddmobile.
Wow @katharmonic! That is so awesome that you only have one peak to go! What an accomplishment. And the pictures are lovely!
Today's run got me to my goal for the month. I'll have another run tomorrow so I should make it back to the 100 mile club I guess I need to head on over to the October thread and figure out my new goal. Thanks for setting it up @martaindale!

I know that some of the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire are visible in the distance on clear days, so a long ways!
@kgirlhart that's exactly what I do - one speedwork a week, one long run, and the rest base runs. I only worry about pace with speedwork, the rest is easy-paced. And long runs especially are conversation-paced because that's when i catch up with my friends. My coach does recommend the last 15 minutes of the long run fast, but I almost never do it.

Tonight's HM/marathon group workout was hill repeats. 30 minutes of repeats alternating short and long hills (half way up the hill for short, all the way up for long), jogging back down. The last time we did hills 5 weeks ago it was 93 degrees out and tonight it was blessedly only 61 degrees. It felt a lot better even if my pace was not impressively better tonight.
That brings me to the exact mileage I had last month, and in March I had 77.8 miles. Kind of odd but this seems to be where I'm ending up. I will try for a little bit of a run tomorrow to finish up the month but it's a tight day, so we'll see how it goes.8 -

7 miles this morning. Running for me just comes in waves...one day good, next day sucky. Today was the latter. On these days I notice I am concentrating mostly on the landing (because my legs hurt I guess). On good days I know I am concentrating more on the take off. Running is mostly a mental exercise.
See you all in October.6 -
@katharmonic beautiful hike! Congrats on being one peak away from meeting your goal!

I am way way behind because of the packing and moving out of our house. It is done now - Let the Remodel Begin!! So I will be here again more and back running some more.
I am not going to respond to everything but picked out a few things like the monthly questions from @swenson19d. Love everyone's responses!swenson19d wrote: »I have a monthly question
I know we kinda talked about this before but it's been a while.
Favorite things & Funny socks
I got this thing for socks. I don't wanna wash them or change them. What if they get lost? or don't fit right? I am loving my new swift wick cycling socks. I am also a pen hoarder of sorts. I have a carousel sorted by wavelength (colour). Highlighters, sharpies, gel pens, fav pencils... It's not a collection of all pens, they are MY pens. I sort my socks from the meh drawer to the yay! drawer. And I'm okay with a mess if it is my mess; which is just loosely organized.
How about ya'll?
Favorite things - hmmm.... I like pens too and colored pencils. I love pens that are different colors and got a set that has 12 I think. I use them to write notes or cards to friends. When I was working my dh bought me a really nice set of art colored pencils and a coloring book. When I was on conference calls (worked remotely for 15 years) I would color if I wasn't out running. I still like it and find it relaxing.
Socks - for the longest time when I started running I wore only the really thin SmartWool PhD Running socks and loved them. Lately though I have been wear a bit thicker Balega Blister Free running socks and love how soft they are. The only problem I have is they are hot in the summer and my feet get really hot on the paved trail. When I am not running I am mostly barefoot and if I have to wear shoes I wear SmartWool with my jeans and such. It also doesn't get 'cold' here the way it is for so many of you. If my feet are cold I put on Ugg slippers.
Also I have a mesh bag I keep in my closet so when I take my running shoes and socks off the socks go right in the bag and the bag goes right in the wash. I no longer have any issues finding the pairs and they all get folded and paired up before going in the sock drawer.
Pet favorite things - Hobbes the Vizsla's favorite things are treats. He will do just about anything for a treat. He does have a couple of favorite toys; one that squeaks just right that he likes to squeak and 'sing' with, the other is a long caterpillar thing that is longer than he is that he drags around the house and brings to greet us.On Hobbes birthday he got 2 of his favorite things - cake and a new caterpillar
When we puppy sat Beaux the 7mo puppy they pretty much destroyed the caterpillar. Hobbes is in the bed and Beaux pulled him around our family room.
@skippygirlsmom - your story about your mom brought tears! I can't believe it has been 5 years already, I remember when she passed. {{HUGS}}
@CarsonSurfs - congratulations on beating cancer and getting back to double digit runs!
@sweetdaisy13 - I love my minimal, 0 drop shoes too. I have 2 pairs and will likely be getting another soon if Topo comes out with a new version. I won a free pair a while back and have been waiting for them to come out with the ST-4. Like you they feel so light on my feet.
@quilteryoyo - cutting, hauling and splitting wood is a no joke huge workout!!
@Teresa502 - great race report! Love the 80yo man! I want to be like that one day!
@ereck44 - I also love sweaters and jackets! Growing up in Idaho I just loved bundling up. Now living in So California there ia really no need but I still love sweaters and have to talk myself out of buying them.
@katharmonic - that view was beautiful! I am so impressed with your hiking!
@martaindale - thanks for setting up October! I will get over and set a goal later today!
Now I am off to get my final September run in and done. Should be able to hit my 80 mile goal today.
9 -
Not running today because of thunderstorms so that’s September for me, see you in the October thread! My goals were to run three times a week with speedwork, trails, and a long run at least 10k. And to do okay in my virtual race. I did okay in the virtual race and met my other goals except for the day the fridge broke, when a threat of storms plus lack of sleep was too much and I skipped a long run. But I did find a fun new trail system, and ran my fastest mile in a while, so the month wasn’t a total loss!9

Short 3.3 mile run to end the month. Didn't meet my goals but hey ho, these things happen and sometimes life just gets in the way.
Well done to everyone and looking forward to 'seeing' you all on the October thread.

Today's run was a 7 mile base run. I was kind of nervous about it. I can run 7 miles no problem, but I don't really have time to run that far in the morning before work. But I got up a little earlier than usual and actually got out the door at 5:12 am. Apparently Hal now thinks that my base run pace is 9:48. That is definitely not a base pace for me. So I said "screw Hal" and just ran 7 miles without worrying about the pace. The plan was 7 miles in 1 hour 9 minutes. My run was 7 miles in 1 hour 19 minutes with an average pace of 11:17. I was pretty happy with my run. I hope to be faster on race day, but I don't think I need to be running all my training runs at race pace. I noticed that the pace for my HM pace run next week is 8:58. I doubt I will even run that fast on race day.
I am closing out September with 105 miles. I'll see you all over in the October thread.

@kgirlhart good job getting a 7 mile run in on a weekday morning.
@sweetdaisy13 I hear you about life getting in the way. But you ran and it's a fresh month tomorrow.
@shanaber love the pics of Hobbes with his caterpillar.
Great job running this month, everyone.
