Introduction

New to message boards. Been logging food since October 17th. Have followed a measure everything log everything meal plan of 1400-1600 calories, with the exception of thanksgiving and a few days after to get back on track.. lol. Began at 347 on September 26 clothes on and am current at 312 clothes off. Emotional eater. Bored eater. Sedentary. Purchased 1 lb weights and band. Severe neuropathy in feet is so hard to walk without a walker but am working on strength. Going to purchase a treadmill at 300 to begin cardio. First time in my long-lived life that my mindset has changed and I am serious about this. Have a 2-year plan because logically I know that I did not gain it all at once and so it will take time. I will need movement to sustain weight loss. My physician asked me when I emailed him my weight loss, "I have been your doctor for 25 years and now that I am retiring, you follow my advice?" We had a good laugh about that.

    Hello and welcome, @LeftIdaho!

It sounds like you've already taken multiple affirmative steps in a positive direction: Good show! I think it's particularly good that you've already taken on board that "didn't gain it overnight, not sensible to lose it overnight" mindset. So many people seem to arrive here with a "drop it all, really fast" kind of mindset, adopt an extreme regimen of ultra-low calories, intense (punitive?) exercise . . . then burn out. You sound like you're truly committed, and in a good way.

I think you're right, that increased movement is helpful. Increasing it gradually, but progressively, as it sounds like you're doing, is a good way to go.

I hope you'll continue to stay engaged and active in the MFP Community here . . . your good attitude could be quite contagious!

Wishing you continuing success with your 2-year plan!

Everybodys path is a bit different.

I've been active since 2014. And since then, lost a touch over 230 pounds. 150 of that or so, was in those first 2 years, 50 some of it this past year, and the rest gradually in between.

My biggest piece of advice would be to be KIND to yourself, and if it takes longer to lose the weight than you expect (and often, it DOES, for any number of reasons), not to get discouraged.

Congrats on your progress so far & glad to see you're taking the measured approach (eg, accepting it's gonna take awhile and not trying to lose some insane amount way too fast)! Best wishes in your continued success
