Just remember to relax and enjoy your time with your family. Maybe let go of the way you do things and "go with Denise's flow". I think, sometimes, it is hard for our daughters to have us visit. We have been "parenting" and doing domestic things for a lot longer and we sometimes forget that OUR way of doing things might not work for their family. Just breathe and enjoy your time!
I definitely do things differently from my parents, and I really discovered how differently when I moved into a suite in their basement to get my Bachelor of Education between 2005 and 2009.
My parents like to eat at specific times each day. My eating times to about 4 pm are fairly specific but after that, it's approximate. In other words, we'll eat dinner any time between about 6:30 and 8 pm.
My parents are meat eaters - that's an important part of their diet. I lean toward being a vegetarian.
My parents generally prefer the meat, potatoes, and veg kind of meals with things like lasagne, spaghetti, pizza and tacos now and then. I'm not keen on meat, potato and veg meals and rarely eat them. I don't know if my parents have ever had any sort of curry, and yet curries are among my favourite meals.
My mother has a schedule for weekly tasks like getting groceries and cleaning. I do those things when I get a minute and am motivated enough.
My mother is very neat - a place for everything and everything in its place. I define "place" loosely. I prefer things to be generally in the room where I use them when possible.
I can't imagine my mother having a drying rack in her living room, yet here I sit with a drying rack in front of me, and more importantly, in front of the split system.
So when we have visited my parents in the past, we've tried not to be underfoot too much. We'll come by for brunch, and then head out to do something touristy or whatever, and be back for dinner and some of the evening. It gives us both time on our own.
Speaking of which ... it's getting close to 5 years since I've seen my parents. Missing them a lot.

Neither my children, nor my grandchildren eat with their parents. They eat earlier and very different foods. My grandchildren are very particular and only eat a few things , though Max is much improved now. Plus they have intolerance, like gluten and cow's milk. Personally, I would eat out, or just serve him his favourite food (yes, the pizza) and let the other adults decide on what to eat for themselves later. Then they are not limited to child-friendly food.
He could enjoy making cookies though, for a short burst. I used to make the dough beforehand and just get them to do the cutting out and decorating. 3 is quite young for anything sustained.
I declined cooking a family lunch at Easter because everyone has their own preferences and peculiarities. Fussy. No fun, and frustrating. It could end up with feeling very unappreciated! We went out instead and all were happy.
Raining. I won't let it dent my enthusiasm for my massage this afternoon. Got to pick up some veg on the way home to go with duck.

Hi all. I was out at my craft group this morning. It’s a small group, and we have known each other for a long time, so it’s always a pleasant way to spend a morning.
Just waiting for DH to come home from badminton, then we will have lunch, and hopefully get into the garden between showers.
We have booked to go to Oxford at the end of July to celebrate granddaughter getting her doctorate. We are taking the overnight ferry, and staying for almost a week, so really looking forward to it. Daughter and both adult grandsons are coming with us. Only 2 of us can attend the graduation, so daughter and I will go, and the men can do their own thing.
🥳🎉 Cheers to all those celebrating.
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

We had two hail storms within one week. The first one car escaped damage. Second one not so lucky car was out parked on street at son's. I got estimate yesterday. Fortuantely I have $100 deductible on comprehensive. The sad part there were so many hit by these storms I will not be able to get my car repaired until October. For the next month I hear storm I will stay home.
This seems to be repair month. I gummed up lawn mower by turning it the wrong way when cleaning out thick grass. You need air cleaner up. This is at son's house. We always have had an electric mower so learning curve for me. It will take 3-4 weeks to fix. amount to fix to be determined.
When turned faucet at our home faucet broke. I did not turn off water and drain properly in the fall and we had a hard winter. Fixed $400 later.
Part of our 50 year old fence posts rotted out. Fixed by handy man $450 dollars later. Still need to touch up paint.
Outdoor light at son's house going out. May hire neighbor to fix. I will give him until the end of June to get it done otherwise I will hire the electric company I have used in the past that I like. Light flickers right now. If completely goes out I will have to hire someone quickly for security reasons.
Upper story of house painted. I did need to carefully get windows unstuck because they painted them shut. Still need to paint lower window and gutter. It was already expensive enough to have them do upper painting.
DH with his health is not able to help with these projects. Just the way it is...
Setting up DrewB annual exam. Looking at last years record. She had 4 shots in one visit plus I was still giving her Flea, tick, and heartworm meds no wonder she became anemic. I am in future going to question any vaccine she had to have and will only allow one vaccine at a time with 45 days inbetween to monitor any adverse reaction. This comes from the detox summit. I cannot prove it but my gut tells me this treatment was the cause of her anemia problem. I still struggle what to do about heartworm. I did learn you have a 45 day window. The reason the suggest 30 days is because it is easier to remember. Lesson learned for me is to be an adovate for DrewB health and mine. No one else will do it for me. I will also make doing what I need to do improve our immune systems. Just as important if not more important than vaccines.
Defintely feeling overwhelmed by this. So as I said Allie your post on projects was spot on for me. Rather than turn to food I have been using that technique of taking 5 breaths and blowing out for five and then thinking of something postive like enjoying the lilacs and the crabapple trees right now or how well our choral concert went on Sunday.

Margaret ~ WOW! You've really had a rough month with so many repairs needing to be done. That is one of the down falls to being a house owner. Between my new hearing aids and having to get a new washer and dryer, it was a hard month for me also.
Michele ~ You've gotten a lot of advice concerning your visit to see PJ. I do hope you enjoy your visit and have bonding time with both PJ and Denise.
Kim ~ Continued hugs for your situation with Brother and MOM.
Going to go VOTE today! As usual, there is a lot of controversy because of the 2020 election results in Georgia. I have been praying and just hope the best candidates are chosen to be in the November election.

Babies holding babies is the cutest thing! And puppies smelling babies is the second! Love it Tracey!
Oh Kim... I'm sorry that DB has pushed Tim to his limits too. Seems they always do that. Stand YOUR ground. At least you know what you know.
Michele, I agree. Leave the equipment at home and just go and have fun. You're a GREAT COOK. You can figure out how to mash potatoes without a masher and cook a meatloaf without "the pan". Our Hunter is the sous chef in this family. He doesn't care what he gets to help with as long as he gets to help. He was breaking eggs by the time he was 3-years-old. (and barely a shell in the mix) Now he does them all on his own and no shells whatsoever. And he knows how to use the big shells to get the little ones out if he does make a mistake. He loves to whisk and measure and pour and just everything that goes into whatever we're making. Grandpa has even started him on grilling. He's 6 now. He knows how to scrape the grates, open the lid, press the ignite, (grandpa turns the gas on/off). He can throw on the steaks or burgers, but Grandpa has to test the for temp yet cuz his arms aren't quite long enough. lol
Cookies were tough for my grands too, Heather. I made the dough ahead and they would be all excited to go... for the first pan into the oven. After that, they would scatter and I would be the one finishing the rest, except for our Hunter, as I said above. He always wanted to help. I swear that child is going to be a chef or a Pokemon. Or a Pokemon Chef! THERE ya go!
OH NO, Margaret! When it RAINS......... it pours. I'm sorry. We've had one of those months as well, but I won't bore you with the details. Suffice to say that our house is 30 years old.
I'm back to work now.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all!
Weather weasels say the rain here will start at 11 a.m. and go pretty much all afternoon and tonight. The same big storm track is showing that Rori got snow again last night in the foothills in Colorado.
Still supporting my best friend through her move - her mother's birthday is coming up next week, and she's really missing her--she would have had her mother's support, and she's mourning her loss right now because of the stress. Probably part of my own wistfulness of late.
Which reminds me - Kim, do you think your mother will actually move? I hope you can get her where she's cared for and protected. Doesn't sound like an easy task.
I have to head for WallyWorld and pick up some ammonia. In this humid climate, it's a lifesaver for cleaning. I genuinely hate to use bleach, and ammonia does almost as good a job without as much destruction.
Onward and upward, my chickens. The fiber optic internet gets installed tomorrow, and supposedly has a 1 gig symmetrical upload and download. No more buffering, super-fast transitions. Should be fun. I've worked with T1 lines that didn't have that much speed.
Later, ladies,
Love,

Hey ladies! So husband priced hotels in Vancouver WA where middle son and fam is for the visit in June. For the 4 nights we will be visiting them, plus gas, it will eat in our savings too much. I wanted to go down to let them go out to dinner for daughter in-laws birthday. If husband wasn't so ibby-jibby about dog hair we would just sleep on their air mattress in their spare room. But husband won't sleep on an air mattress, so we have to stay at a hotel if its both of us. So, I am going down on a train by myself. Its $49 one way so that's good. I will stay with them 6 days, and get my Athena time!💖👍. My eldest sister will pick me up and then stay with her for about a week as well. My sister has gotten many RSVP's regarding her little reunion at her "homestead", so it should be so much fun. All relatives on my mothers side. Mostly cousins, but one cousin (my grand uncles grand daughter) is coming from Montenegro! Her sister and family driving from Arizona, a cousin from Beaverton OR, maybe one from Everett. I'm hoping my middle sister can come for the day as well. Then I will just take a train or bus back to Mt Vernon WA. My husband will be by himself for almost 2 weeks but that's his choice. I'm not mad at him, it just is what it is.
I had a nice chat on the phone with eldest sailor. He sounded really good, upbeat and we talked for an hour. He's presently at the base in Japan that his youngest brother is stationed at, but his ship is out to sea. Darn it! Getting those two together will be a challenge. A lot of my eldest sailors shipmates know to keep a lookout for his brothers ship though, which is nice. My eldest told me he has been having fun reading D & D adventure stories on his phone. Choose your own path, etc, so that's cool. You can choose different characters, and run thru the same story, but a different point of view. I'm glad he is enjoying himself out on the big blue. Miss that kid though.💖
Today is my mammogram at the on base clinic. Should be interesting! Most procedures were done at places with a technician that has been doing it for years. Not sure how I feel having some young corpsman doing it! Also I might freak them out because I have underarm hair. I'll be damned, if I am gonna shave it, because they're uncomfortable about it. I have noticed it doesn't really grow anymore, its just a nice wispy thing, and I do not have any underarm odor. I rarely use deodorant. I find that interesting. So there's that little tmi of info for you. Lol!
Have a good day ladies!

I downloaded a
Meditation app and a yoga for weight loss app for free and started both yesterday. Felt so much better after doing them both. I must continue!
After logging all my food for 2 weeks consistently, I find that as I thought, the hard seltzer that adds up way too much. So goal is to avoid them but allow 2 weekend days only! Cutting back first then off completely.
On other topics, I love flying but DH doesn’t. Every time I do, he is a nervous wreck while I’m at the window enjoying the scenery under me or napping 😴. On the other hand, I have never been on a cruise and not sure I would. I have a water phobia. I’ve been on trains a couple times for short scenic trips. Not sure if I would get motion sickness.
Cooking with kids, I would just go shopping when I got there to visit with the mom and child to get what was needed for those 3 days with their input. Makes everyone happy!

Hi Gals,
Michele - I have taught cooking classes to 3 year olds and it is amazing what they can do with a little bit of coaching… Stirring, pouring, sprinkling thinking instant pudding with sprinklers or chocolate chips; using cookie cutters and sprinkles or frosting, making salad, tearing lettuce, counting out cherry tomatoes, grating cheese on a box grater, turning pre-cut red tomato slices into rings… or prepping green beans, as they can be cut with a butter knife --- if you can get your hands on them shelling peas is a great job! As for an entrée, thinking kid friendly food, individual pizzas, burritos/quesadillas, hot dogs, either with a bun or mixed into mac ‘n cheese - that can be boxed, or just cook some macaroni and PJ can cut the hot dog, grate the cheese and mix it all up. Make your own chicken fingers… you cut the breasts into “fingers” and then PJ can dip them in egg wash and then in a coating. And honestly if one of the adults will not eat what their child or grandchild makes them then after you and PJ are done they can fix themselves something in the kitchen.
I don’t remember who asked about would my mom move, and the answer is yes, she is delighted with the idea – and actually was planning to downsize before she took on raising her grandson 20 years ago, then that put everything on hold. When he was a senior in high school, we had just begun looking at places for her when my DB announced he had “cancer” and was dying – NOT. ☹ Housing pricing in her area are high so between her retirement and the sale of the house she has the ability to make a choice to her liking.
I got my first shingles vaccine today…. Glad to get that done, many years ago my mom got shingles and had a miserable time – it lasted for 6+ months…. I don’t want that!!!
Sending love to all.

My massage was wonderful, but apparently I am walking all wrong. I hope I can correct it as it has been a problem all my life.
Rita - I love train travel, but you need headphones and downloads. Kindle. Music. Films. DH is not keen on trains, nor planes. I don't like cars. Cruises suit us both, though DH was initially resistant. After he tried it he was hooked. He thought it would be awful. He happily admits he was wrong. He is not a great sailor, but we have only had a few bad days in 4 trips. I will fly to a few places on my own and leave it up to him if he wants to come with me. Nothing is worse than a reluctant companion. I love my solo trips. Yes, I occasionally would like a companion in the evening, but I like to be able to set my own agenda. His plane thing has got worse recently. Ditto my car thing.
I have always liked doing things on my own. We are lucky with the train network in the UK and our nearest airport is international.

Just my opinion, Michelle. Your love language is food, I think, based on all the cooking and baking you do. I think that's really beautiful. But I agree with everyone. Though it may be hard for you, try to go and relax. Have some simple easy fun with your grandson in the kitchen, but also spend lots of time reading, playing cars, Duplos, looking for bugs on a walk, just enjoy. I second or third not bringing cooking implements and gadgets with you. That might come across as judgy. I mash my potatoes with a strong spoon, and no one complains.
Just have a fantastic time. Make some individual pizzas, and some cookies, and keep expectations low. His attention span is probably still not terrific.

Worked then got to the gym to do a body pump DVD. Then went to the Salvation Army. Found the bags that you can suction out the air. Came home and Steve came here. Will try to eat decently.
Tracey – you do have to put the pierogi dough either thru a pasta maker or else roll it out. They can be closed, but you have to be sure they are COMPLETELY closed. Also, I only know of one store around here where you can get the cheese. I have no idea where I can buy the cheese up there. I very highly doubt Denise would have a jar for me to put grease in. Also, Pete is very OCD. He wouldn’t want an empty jar in the house, much less a jar that has grease in it. So I’ll just bring one up with me, that’s no big problem.
Went for a walk around the block with Steve.
M – we usually eat around 6. It’s totally normal for Jess not to eat until 9. Vince is a meat eater, me not to much
Before we go to Denise’s, we are to go to Steve’s. He’s having a “picnic” on that Sat. I really think we should go since he comes here all the time. I can’t go empty-handed somewhere so I’m thinking of buying a macaroni & Cheese and making it in his oven. I was also thinking of KFC. I’m thinking that others will be bringing a dessert, so maybe we’ll bring something else. While he’s here I do want to talk to him about us staying at his house. And see how many people he’s expecting (how much chicken would we need?)
Kim – thanks for the ideas. I never thought of pudding, but I can take PJ shopping and he can pick out the pudding that he wants! The good thing is that even if it’s something that Denise isn’t fond of, I’m sure she’ll eat “PJ cookies” etc.
Going to work on the loom hats while Steve is here. In some ways I think he’s somewhat lonely.
As promised, here's Smurf

Hi Gals,
Michele - ok, I have read all the things about the cooking and the pierogis and bringing supplies and jars for oil and all of these things about this visit with Denise, Pete and PJ. I know you just want to help and to love on your daughter and grandson. I think some fun options is great! So easy low clean up ideas are perfect. Pierogis need to be left to another time… They are a job not a fun activity.
Sending love to all.
