Carol ... I'm so sorry to hear about your sister-in-law's loss. Why is it that so many people seem to leave us during holidays?

Stranded at LAX. Fortunately, we have a hotel room, and hubby and son are rebooked for tonight, and I am rebooked for tomorrow morning. Merry Christmas! ⛄ 🎄

I slept overnight in an empty wing at LAX many years ago. My husband (then boyfriend) had taken his flight to Australia late in the evening and mine back to Canada wasn't till early morning.

Delays and such are part of the adventure of travel.

:)Lanette, I loved the cat picture in your spoiler. I texted it to Jake and he howled with laughter.

:) Our neighbors gave us a box of fancy cookies. Jake ate four of them and I took the rest to the clubhouse to be available to the people who show up there to play cards. No cookies hang around our house.

:) Our celebratory meal was Cascatelli pasta with olive oil, peppers, onions, and feta cheese. It was special because it was higher in sodium than our usual fare. It was easy and delicious.

    Merry Christmas ladies!!

Here are two pictures- sorry, don't know how to use the spoiler to hide them for those who don't want to see them.
First one is right after surgery and the second was Friday after the bandages were off and I got a shower. The incision on my neck is what is hurting the most. It is hard to see in that picture but the incision is from just below my ear, almost to my chin.
Still sleeping propped up on the couch for a few more days. The cats are enjoying it- they all want to sleep with me.

It looks like yours is healing well too.

Interesting that they stitched the gauze to your nose.

Cycling is less painful than walking for me because of my hip incision, where the skin cancer was removed there. But we're keeping it short ... no longer rides for a while.

Machka ... "balanced the checkbook to the penny." I use this phrase to mean exactly what it says. Reconciling the bank's statement with my checkbook "register" (which is an excel spread sheet). I always want the numbers to be exactly the same and while the excel program takes out mathematical errors ... I don't always input my numbers correctly so have to work at finding where I made mistakes.

Wouldn't you just look over what's been spent online periodically to see if there is anything "odd"?

I haven't actually "balanced a checkbook" in about 25 years because cheques are a thing of the past. I think it's been about 15 years since I had to use a cheque and that was only for rent. I don't think they're accepted anywhere anymore. But we do have a look at what's happening online fairly frequently and I suppose that's the modern version of "balancing a checkbook".

Occasionally, I'll export the online record to Excel to do a comparison between months or something.

Lisa ... the weather outside is not "delightful" that's for sure! Blizzard conditions, wind and snow, hit my hill early Friday and then shifted slightly north for the better part of Saturday. We had had a lot of wind on Saturday, but not much snow. My mother's facility took a direct hit from the blizzard Friday night into Saturday but everyone was fine. Then the storm shifted a little bit further north on Saturday and just pummeled that area. Yesterday, the storm started making its way south again. (Think of a windshield wiper going back and forth and that's what this storm band looks like on radar. Just a degree or two shift can put us in or out of a storm's path.) While we are no longer under a Blizzard warning, we are in the middle of another Lake Effect snow storm. Probably getting at least an inch of snow per hour. We have have been under a travel ban since Thursday evening. People complain about these bans, but the reality is that when you have blizzard conditions or whiteout conditions, no one can rescue you because no one can see you. Plows actually hit people that were off the road because they were buried under snow or they couldn't see them and people have died in this storm because they were stranded in their vehicles in sub-zero temperatures with no one to rescue them. I'm not sure how much snow we've received so far ... reporters said over 3 feet early this morning and it's been snowing heavily all day.

My husband spent 2 hours trying to get the driveway to a point that we could get out in an emergency. I found him on the front porch and had to laugh ... he was whacking Joseph in the head and he had baby Jesus upside down and was shaking him ... my poor little nativity people were covered in snow! :D

Everyone in this area is in the same boat ... all at home with their immediate families ... and while I would have liked to have seen my mother today (who's having her first Christmas without my dad) ... we're ok.

Beth near Buffalo who thinks she's had enough winter already ...

Sorry about all the snow. We used to get lake effect types of snowfalls when I lived in Winnipeg.

Pip ...yes, the memories are always with us ... hugs

Debbie ... I got to thinking about my response to you to "use your nose as an excuse." You shouldn't have to do that. Your family should be sensitive to your recent surgery and should be seeing to your needs without being asked. I'm sorry that they aren't. A while back, maybe a few years ago, this group discussed how we should act the way we want others to treat us ... to make our expectations known (or words to that nature). I think it was Rebecca that said she wore a crown/tiara for a while so her guys would know how she wanted to be treated. I remember doing the same thing, and while my guys laughed at me, I didn't take it off either and they got the point. It's easy for others to take us for granted or take advantage of us if we project that bad behavior is acceptable. I'm not saying this well and the rest of the group will have to help me out here, but my point is ... you deserve to be treated well... because you're Debbie and you're worth it. I'm sending you big virtual hugs.

    Beth

    Beth- THANK YOU
I know I should have stopped letting them use me the way they do many years ago-
    No, it isn't right.
He isn't thinking about me- he is seeing that he is being used.
He has to do more chores because I can't. It has only been one week. He has had to wash two loads of laundry(one for his clothes and one for the pee pads from the cat- He washed them and I pulled them from the dryer). Made sure he didn't wash any of my clothes, which I don't really care- I will catch up on them next week when the weight restrictions are lifted and he has half a**** washed some dishes- some of them I had to rewash because he didn't bother washing them all the way. He washes just the bare minimum so there is room in the sink and leaves the rest.
He was pitching a fit because he had to pack the food for his mom(usually I do it), started slamming stuff, knocked stuff over so more for him to clean up- ranting and cussing- He went to his mom's, was there for over 2 hours and came home and went straight to the bedroom. I didn't even know he was home(came through the garage and the door didn't beep for some reason). I was on the phone talking to my cousin and noticed on the camera that he was home. May have heard me talking to my cousin about him, oh well. Never said a word, just went to bed.
He is working at 3 am until noon so I won't have to deal with him for the whole morning.
Presents are still sitting there- didn't even open them.

Going to go back and lay down(had a nice long shower) after I put some meds on the incisions- SO happy to be done with the Keflex- finally not nausous . First time in ten days.
Daycare girl will be here at 9:30 so I can kind of sleep in(depends on when the cats wake me up)
Hope she is better this week- she was a brat this past week- totally ignoring me the whole week.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

My hip incision is a long straight line. Very neat. But it's deep (and has 2 layers of stitches holding it together) so it gets sore quickly when I walk.

Beth—We have discarded old lightbulbs and replaced them with daylight temperature lightbulbs inside our home. The brighter lights improve my energy and lift my mood, especially during winter. 😊

Carol— Sorry to hear that your brother’s wife’s mom has passed away.🌺

(((Pip))) - Remembering Lenny and the epileptic seizure that took his life must have been heart breaking. I’m sorry for your loss back then. You are lucky that Kirby came into your life.😘

(((Machka)))— I hope your hip incision is effective. I’m sorry that it gets sore when you want to walk. 🌺

Merry Christmas to all, hope it was a good one. We had a quiet day ,just DD and me. I went to church this morning then DD and I worked on a jigsaw puzzle we received as a gift. Opened presents in the afternoon. All in all a good day.

Our weather has improved immensely. It has warmed up and the ice melted. I did not miss having having a white Christmas. This was much better.

All those in the cold, snowy zones be safe.

Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Yesterday, I was up early to organise food for respective homes, but mostly to titavate myself.

Enjoyed our day despite the extra driving to see DYD and DEGS in their respective isolation. (Both avoiding the possibility of Covid). DYD was well enough to walk Parkrun on Christmas Eve, and did marshalling on Christmas Day. We spent a little time with her, then drove to DEGS’s to deliver his turkey dinner and dessert. He has a bad gut bug, so we didn’t stay long, but we did see both of them on Skype later.

DED did a great job with hosting. We had decided to pare down the food a little, no starter, minimal desserts.

We Skyped with the other two, and BiL and SiL FaceTimed and we saw the deep snow they are contending with in Canton, UNYS. Niece lives about 20 miles from Canadian border. Their power is linked into the hospital supply (she’s a doctor) so not expecting to have any cuts.

All in all a good day despite Covid, although we were dog-tired when we got home.

Today we will do very little. DH will probably go for a walk with DYD and her pooch. It looks like it will be a clear dry day, but cold.

Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

🙋‍♀️ Miele failte to the newbies.

    Good morning ladies!

It's too early to get up because I don't like to let the dog out before daylight.

I'm kind of excited to restart my fitness push today. I would like to get back to exercise six days a week and eating healthy. My right shoulder is still a little weak though. So I will have to work around that. Or ice it.

I wore a new red Christmas top yesterday. It's cotton/polyester but it says dry clean preferred. Well, it's going in the machine on delicate. Life is a risk.

Hope the weather is better for us all today. Stay safe and warm!

Beth I absolutely love what you wrote to Debbie. Every word you wrote is so right on. Debbie, I am so glad you are taking it easy and healing. I hope that you continue to take care of your needs as you heal and not let your husband bully you into taking care of what he decides to do for his mother. Your life and your choices are important. Looks like your surgeries are healing well. Congratulations on being done with the Keflex. Good for you on sticking up for what you need and want. It's not easy.

If you're interested in the Action for Happiness Calendar ...
    Do Good December
This month, we're encouraging you to carry out small acts of kindness.

Or we could post something we're thankful for, or happy about, related to the holiday season.

December 1 - I love the Christmas music. :) Come December 1, that's almost all I play. Christmas music or classical music (when I have to think at work or when we're in the car).

December 2 - Christmas decorations! We're lagging behind a bit because I usually like to decorate on December 1. But we got the decorations upstairs on Dec 2. Today I'll rearrange furniture and make a start.

December 3 - Summer. My favourite season. And we are finally having a few days of decent weather after a very wild and woolly spring. That's not saying the good weather will last (thanks La Nina) but there should be more of it.

December 4 - Memories. So many of the Christmas songs and traditions remind me of my parents and grandparents and happy Christmases with them.

December 5 - Christmas Displays. I like how many of the shops have Christmas Displays, and some are quite detailed and intricate.

December 6 - Greetings. People smiling and wishing each other Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

December 7 - Shortbread. So much delicious shortbread!

December 8 - Family. Christmas seems to bring us together a bit more.

December 8 - Trees. All over the world, millions of people are putting up trees in their houses and work places and decorating them. :)

December 9 - Sparkly Things. I love how everything becomes sparkly at this time of year.

December 10 - Yummy Things. Mince tarts and cookies. Fudge. Special Chocolates. All sorts of nibbles that only come out at this time of year.

December 11 - Colours. Reds and greens and a few other combinations out everywhere.

December 12 - Christmas Stories. Twas the Night Before Christmas. A Christmas Carol. Jesus Birth.

December 13 - Wrapping things up, and I don't just mean presents.

December 14 - The Christmas songs I know by heart. I sang them to myself during my surgery to help keep me calm and focusing on something else.

December 15 - Rest. Except for one Christmas, I think I have had a holiday time over every other Christmas. Today I'm on enforced rest.

December 16 - Comfort. Christmas is usually a comfortable time of year for me. In Canada it was about going out in the cold to shop or ski and then coming home and curling up in warm, cozy clothes. Here it's about spending time in the warm sunshine, at the beach, in the garden or right now, looking at the lovely outside from inside.

December 17 - Joy. Christmas has usually been a joyful time for me ... probably mainly to do with being able to take a break.

December 18 - Pretty. It's such a pretty time of year and people seem to go to lengths to make everything pretty.

December 19 - Movies. Last night we watched 2 Christmas movies. I get a kick out of them and can just relax and enjoy them. I've got 3 of the ones on the Bingo card below. :)

December 20 - Home ... or away. Either way, Christmas is a time to be somewhere I feel comfortable.

December 21 - Fun. I usually relax a bit more around Christmas and make a point of doing things for fun!

December 22 - Exercise. Christmas has usually been a time when I get extra exercise! In Canada, I was out skiing and snowshoeing. Here I'm usually out cycling, running and walking.

Unfortunately, I'm not as active this Christmas. But I'm pushing for a bicycle ride this weekend. :)

December 23 - Health. Christmas is usually a time to regroup and regain my health through sleep, exercise, and eating better.

    December 24 - Love.

    December 25 - Jesus' birth.

December 26 - Silent Night. It's quieter here than usual.

Just saw your post, Barbara ...

Aha, finally found a December daily gratitude calendar.
    https://www.spacewiseorganizing.com/december-gratitude-challenge/
“This time of year, there’s a lot of pressure to think about what we want instead of what we have. Every day for the month of December, celebrate what you’re grateful for corresponding to the theme of the day. Snap a photo or update your status on IG or FB with #spaceforgratitude”
    1sa7taue9pwm.png

1 What is something that makes you laugh? Rhody! We're so very glad we got our little COVID Cat!

2 Something about the current season you’re grateful for. Rest. There will be a lot of rest over Christmas.

3 What about your body do you love/are you grateful for? I like my nose and want to keep it. But my official answer will be legs - for transport (walking) and recreation (cycling).

4 Who is someone in your life that you’re grateful for? I've said husband and parents last month, and that's true, but this month I'll say ... my manager. She has been supportive and encouraging regarding my input into my job.

5 What is a book that changed your life? The Bible. :) With the Christmas season in mind, I'm reading the gospel of Luke now.

6 Think about something you’re good at. I think I'm good at planning and organisation.

7 What is a lesson you’re grateful you learned? To speak up. To say my piece.

When I was young, up till about 17-ish, I was quiet and shy. Then I went through a bolder phase from about 17 into my early 20s. Then the quiet shyness resumed for the most part until my husband's accident. And then the bold me reappeared!

Where I once guessed what people might be thinking and thought my answers, now I'm vocal and even told I'm quite blunt.

8 A basic need that has been met. Shelter. I'm very thankful for our particular shelter.

9 What are you most grateful for in the city/town where you live? The proximity to both mountains and beaches. :)

10 What rejection in your life are you most grateful for? Oh that's an interesting question. Either there haven't been many or I don't remember them but I'm drawing a blank. Although ... about 18 months or so ago, I didn't get a job I was going for and thought I wanted. I think I prefer the one I have now. I think it is providing me with more opportunities for experience and learning.

11 Something you use every day. A coffee cup to hold my morning coffee. :)

12 Something you don’t need anymore. What don't I need anymore? Perhaps some of the time consuming traditions like writing the Christmas letter, doing Christmas cards, heaps of baking ...

And outside of Christmas, I'm making choices that work for me. Picking and choosing what I want to do ... and don't want to do. I'm grateful I can make a few more of those choices.

13 Refuge – space you love in your home - my chair. I bought a wing chair about a year or so ago and it's my spot.

14 Item of clothing - rain jacket. Because it appears that it isn't going to stop raining! Also comfy pjs. :)

15 Taste - I am grateful that I still have a sense of taste. That was one thing my husband lost with his brain injury.

16 Touch - I'm glad for my smooth, comfortable bed where I've been spending a lot of time.

17 Smell - Love the smell of our roses.

18 Sound - Thoroughly enjoying the sound of the Christmas music I play all day long. :)

19 Sight - I'm appreciating sight after spending the last 5 days without glasses!! I can wear my glasses for a little while now but have to take a break after even just a minute or so.

20 Texture - the smooth creamy texture of chocolates, the melt in the mouth texture of shortbread. :)

21 Color - All sorts of Christmas colours!!

22 A song that makes you happy. Jesus Loves Me.

23 Type of weather you love. Sunshine and warmth.

24 Professional who helps you. That would be my surgeon!

25 Something you take for granted. The love of my family. Not that I take them for granted but that I know they will always love me.

26 A TV show that you look forward to watching. Midsommer Murders. We'll start watching it again after the Christmas season. They'll play 150 reruns of it, so it's nice to take a break and watch Christmas movies and then we'll look forward to seeing it later.
27 A movie you watch over and over.
28 An opportunity you’re grateful you had.
29 A place you love to visit.
30 A tool you find incredibly useful.
    31 A daily habit you’re happy you’ve cultivated.
