Up sort of early today.
Church this morning, then DGD baptism this afternoon. Gathering afterward at DD's where they still have a foot of snow, probably lots of little kids there again like at the birthday party a few weeks ago. Snow and lots of kids means wet clothes on-and-off again, and boots and hats and mittens everywhere, and other mayhem, but good family fun for grownups who aren't too grumpy about kids. My uncle used to say anybody doesn't like little kids has somethin' wrong with 'em.
The AMC, when they do winter backpacking in the White Mountains of NH, will have a minimum of 5 people. If one gets hurt, two can stay and two go for help, so no one's alone. But also so they can break trail in fresh deep snow. One person leads single file, and after a short, while he drops to the rear, and they rotate who's in front of the line all the way. With modern recreational snowshoes you still sink in a foot or more on fresh snow, but I think in the far north where snow gets windpacked, the natives made them 4-feet long and you could walk on top mostly.
Have a good rest of the weekend.

Good morning!
I have never tried to snowshoe. We have had very cold weather here. 16 again this morning. The average high now is supposed to be 56. It never got above 30 yesterday. We are supposed to see 40s today. Ugh.
I rested all day yesterday, so today is chore day. Dust, vac, clean bathroom, etc. I also need to go to the grocery store and get meat. Connie buys all of the groceries at Wal-Mart except for meat. I buy the meat at a grocer who has an in-store butcher. We really can tell a difference in the quality of meat.
Connie and I had a long talk yesterday. We decided that I am going to not worry about if the business succeeds or fails. I will just do the best that I can with the accounting. I am also going to talk with the president about HR duties. If I need to bail because the business is failing, then I can cross that bridge and either look for another accounting job, or work at Lowes. Meanwhile, I will continue to earn higher income. If my health continues to decline while working at Parker McCrory, then we will also consider my moving jobs again. Connie is probably right. If I move to another accounting job, I will continue to stress just trying to do a really good job. I have trouble "coasting". I won't coast where I am now, I can work hard, that is not stressful. What is stressful is worrying about things that I cannot change. I also need to learn how to handle interruptions better. Finally, I am getting serious about eating better.
Have a great day!0 -
Good morning gentlemen.
The Serenity Prayer isn't just for AA. Or you can hang on to what we used to call the short version: "%$#@ it." There are real stressors in life that can't be avoided, but you don't need to add to them.
The Army used to have old-school snowshoes. They were 42 inched long, with magnesium frames and stainless-steel cable webbing. They might have provided better floatation than my current MSR snowshoes, but that was countered by the fact that they didn't slide over the snow, at all. You had to lift your foot up with every step. Not as hard as post-holing without snowshoes, but much harder than with more modern designs.
Had fun watching kids' soccer, yesterday. Took them out for pizza afterwards. It was 65 degrees and sunny. Fabulous. Sadly, cold rain returns tonight.

Good Morning
Steve, the important thing is that you and Connie are talking about the work situation and on the same page.
Snowshoeing certainly is different from what most people think even with good snowshoes. Trailbreaking is a study in a high stepping motion that my distance running didn't help me with much.
Heather and I went out for lunch yesterday and I took my cane to see how I could do. I over did it mainly due to parking being 2 blocks away. The walker was in the car. I should have sent Heather ahead to get it for the trip back to the car, but didn't. I will take it easy this morning except for my exercises and use my walker. Ice and rest should help. This evening we will have to move/slide a small amount of furniture out of the way for tomorrow mornings appliance delivery and removal. But mostly I will focus on calming things down.

Good Afternoon,
Churched and schooled this morning, then a trip to Lowe's for some concrete, L brackets and construction glue; ramp installed yesterday went down to zero so need to slope to board and tighten railing on one side.
May watch some cars making left turns.

Afternoon gents.
Totally in agreement that it is great that you and Connie are talking about your job situation and are on the same page, Steve.
