Hi Gary. There are “sticky” threads at the top of each board that will give advice and I formation on how to use the app.

I strongly suggest investing some time in reading some of them, as well as making it a habit to read the boards every day or two. You’ll pick up lots of knowledge and suggestions here by browsing g threads that have questions similar to yours.

You are weighing and logging, I assume?

It’s very common for folks not to see results for a mo the or so- but that assumes you’ve set a likely goal and are logging accurately and properly.

thanks I'm logging as close as possible everything that goes in my mouth had high hopes that I could eat the food I like as long as I'm on target or below my daily allowance I have a weight loss target of 1lb per week and averaging around 800 calories under every day was hoping for better than 1lb a day but nothing lost was disappointing maybe even though I'm under with the calories could I be eating the wrong ones?

You were hoping to lose more than a pound of fat a day? I’m not sure that’s even biologically possible. The body can only metabolize so much a day. I think you may need to do some research on realistic fat loss.

If you are weighing and choosing good solid entries to log, and are truly 800 under…

1.) you may be stressing your body out so much by undereating so much that your cortisol levels are up and hence, you’re retaining water.

2.) you’re probably gung-ho and have attacked new workouts with gusto. Sore? Your body retains water and directs it to sore places for healing. I was up three pounds myself Saturday following a particularly tough training session Friday morning. Apparently my trainer FORGOT there are other words in the English language besides “squat”, and I - who arrogantly thought it was no longer possible anymore- ended up with a stellar case of DOMs. That’s the post exercise “duck walk”.

3.) changed your diet? Unfamiliar foods? New foods added? You may be constipated. Some low cal foods are actually very salty, or you may be adding salt to “make up” for flavor lost (don’t worry:your tastebuds will eventually recalibrate). Guess what? Salt=water retention.

So many things can affect your weight- monthly cycles for the ladies, airplane cabin pressure, work or personal stress, long car trips, injuries, surgery. Heck, I broke a piddly-*kitten* middle toe in October, and bam! Weight went up a couple pounds while it was healing.

How are you recording calorie burn? I’ve seen people here give themselves 1200 calories for an hour walk, or 400 calories for “housecleaning”. How reasonable/ accurate are your burns? Are you using a fitness tracker? Don’t rely on gym equipment. Their reported burns are notoriously inaccurate, often 2-3x actual burn.

I’m hoping the “pound a day” was a typo. If it’s not, whoa Nelly, step back and reconsider what you’re doing. You get one body. Don’t screw it up with a bad plan. Undereating can cause hair loss, muscle loss, heart issues (cuz……your heart’s a muscle).

How many calories are you eating per day? What’s you weight and height? Share some of your exercise burns with us.

Not trying to bring you down. This epistle comes courtesy of a woman who - at one time- actually thought an hour walk burned off a family pack of Oreos.

Youve got to relearn a lot of stuff to be successful, and that takes an investment in reading as well as hustling at the gym.
