Welcome to MFP, Terry!
The two biggest pieces of advice I can give are two words: patience and honesty. You did not gain those 6kgs in a week; losing them will also take time. If you are consistent with using the app and the advice you can gain from these forums, you CAN and WILL lose the weight...
...IF you are honest with yourself. If you eat/drink it, log it. If you have a second helping or a larger first helping, modify the log to match reality. You don't have to share your log with anybody; we're not here to judge or grade your performance. (Though if you want, you can share your log with us and we can give you the point of view of people who have been-there, eaten-that to maybe help find pitfalls we've overcome in the past.) But if you forget to log that muffin, or choose to not log that extra spoon of potatoes out of embarrassment or thinking it doesn't matter...well, it does matter, to you. It's amazing how fast little bits add up in calories, either delaying weight loss or resulting in unintended gain. Did you know professional chefs often consume over 100 calories per day simply from taste-testing what they are preparing? That's an extra 4-5kg per year, not through dessert or sit-down meals, but tasting!
So be honest with yourself, be faithful to your log, be patient and know this will take a few weeks to months. But you got this; you can do it!
Again, welcome!1 -
There are no "hacks". Well, there might be hacks for "quick weight loss", but there aren't hacks for permanent weight management, and if you ask me the latter is the real prize.
For me, what worked was finding and practicing new routine habits that were calorie appropriate, generally enjoyable (at least tolerable/practical), offered reasonable overall nutrition. Enjoyable eating I could continue forever. Exercise that was fun enough that I'd do it even if it weren't good for me. Daily life habits (outside of exercise) that were biased toward moving more. Forever.
Patience, persistence, new daily life habits: It can work.
Wishing you success!0
