Annie - I was wondering what you and your sis decided about your dad. That senior center sounds like a good plan. Crossing fingers he'll make friends there and they'll help keep an eye on him. Other things might open up too. Good job on the walking - it will get better. Does your dad walk with you?
Lisa - happy things are working out well with Patrick. And that the Skyrizi (or something) seems to be calming down your system. I know you'll be happy when the gyn appointment is over.
Tracey and Michele - hope you can get your foot problems cleared up.
Jenn - welcome and sorry to hear about your fall. We Washingtonians are getting a couple days of nice weather. 'Bout time!
Heather - John is the best. Sounds like the grands were fed and entertained with minimal exposure on your part. We are all crossing fingers the operation goes smoothly and you'll recover quickly and be back to your old activities. Did you say hip#2 is planned for 2 months from now?
Glad you have an early check-in time! Like Lisa said, the surgeon will be fresh and ready to go. Do you have an idea of how long they plan to keep you in the hospital? Is it an overnight stay or a few days? I suppose it depends on how your recovery goes and if there's physical therapy involved.
Vicki - Improving hearing naturally rabbit hole:I found a YouTube video explaining how anyone can use auditory training (AT) to retrain the brain to help differentiate sounds, much like what Beth is doing right now. The presenter talked about AT programs - some cost and some are free. Here's the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGC_P5eRBOg
A comprehensive website with exercises to keep hearing sharp: https://www.healthyhearing.com/report/51752-Exercise-your-ears-apps-and-games-to-keep-hearing-sharp
Note the article states meditation helps too.
I'm wondering if an affirmation such as "my hearing is getting better and better every day" or even "I'm grateful for my good hearing" repeated several times a day might also be beneficial. If a person is religious, stick an "Amen" in there. Can't hurt.
My last good deed:I walked down to my neighbor's house this morning and checked/watered her houseplants. This is the gal I walk with sometimes, she and her DH took off for 3 weeks on vacation and she asked at the last minute if I'd water her houseplants. I had only seen a couple on her kitchen counter and they were succulents, so I said sure. Turns out she had 19 scattered throughout the house, many of them in places hard to get to like on windowsills behind the computer and electronic equipment. A couple already looked like they were on their last legs. I may have overwatered 2, they don't look too good. She provided a big pitcher to water things with - it dripped and was too large - in some instances the water gushed out - so I had to run home and get one of my small watering cans with a 6" spout so I wouldn't damage furniture or risk overflow onto books and other things she had stacked around them.
Can't wait for her to get back, hopefully this weekend, and give her the housekey and say "next time get someone else." It's been a worry for me the whole time. I'm reminded of what Kim went through babysitting chickens.
Part of me thinks "you get what you pay for" and there's another part that, well, I'm not sure what to think. I know they are "just" houseplants - and I know they are important to her. I never sold myself as a houseplant expert and kind of resent the fact that what she said would be "just pop in once a week" has turned out to be every 3 or 4 days as several of them turned out to be water hogs. She's been emailing me to check up on them.
Enough. It was 35F here this morning. The sun is shining brightly and it's going to be a beautiful day. I have a list so need to get going.

Heather - I thought I was the only one who did that. Unless they make me, I try to do things without Corey being there. Some of the procedures, they want someone there with you and that's just annoying for both of us.
Well... painted over my tree mural just now. I was reasonably happy with it (as much as I am with anything I paint), but now I've whited it out, and I know what I want to do with the next rendition... much like what I've been working on in miniature. The question is, how macro do I want to go? And if I stick with minis, how many minis can I stand to do? All esoteric questions interesting only to the artist, one assumes. I'm leaning towards many minis, and if I say that again, someone needs to smack me. 😄😈😁
They're going to come pick up the roll-off dumpster today finally, and between paying that bill and Corey's dental work, the budget is so far past busted I can't even remember the budget bottom line. We're fine, just a couple months of catch-up ahead financially. There are worse things.
Got out and did a couple hours of yardwork, got a fair amount done, but didn't push too hard - 700 calories in 125 minutes. Came back in when the temperature hit 72, and my blood pressure was fine, so I'm beginning to get it right. Got laundry out on the line, supposedly no rain threatening. One more load to go out there, and then I can jump in the shower.
Later,
Love,

@Rebecca, YUM! One of my favorite meals! Might you be able to send me some? LMAO!
Overcast and windy here today. Should be a quiet day. I’ve walked the day side this morning and no real pickup needed. People were good yesterday. With the weather today, should be a quiet easy day again tomorrow. My mind is in quiet mode lately so not much to talk about here. Just normal park stuff and nothing exciting. I am glad that no police or ambulance calls so far this year. Last year, we had them here every weekend beginning on Easter! So I’ll take it. I feel much safer with our new ranger who is an ex city police officer who was involved in a shooting (why he quit the police force. Wanted to be alive for his family!). He know that just having a presence calms the Indians down. He is a really nice guy too.
I’ve upped my walking, added 10 minutes of yoga, 10 minutes meditation, and 10 minutes of Spanish lessons on Duolingo to my routine. Helping to keep me busy and healthy for me. My kids and mom have been quiet lately, so I’m getting suspicious of that. I think it is the quiet before the storm!

I'm making it today Rita! Yesterday Lee took me out for Chinese food.🤗💖
We were the only people there! It was such a cold restaurant but they played great jazzy lounge music. In the afternoon we both took long naps like old people!

Today is shopping day. I think I will buy a piece of fruit daily, and a veggie to cook with a protein or pair with. That should be fun.
My counter should look pretty. I will take a photo.
My kitchen is all done and I am pleased. Now I just have to fix the lighting. Its really wonky, old-fashioned and we just need to replace a lighting tube, and get some bendable plastic sheeting to put up there. The ones there were old and balanced carefully up there, so one day they just came down, shattering because the plastic was brittle.
But it was nice to come downstairs to make coffee, and see everything done finally, and gaze at our fireplace going. When that thing cycles on and off, I think its so cute. She will be on as we come back from somewhere, like she is welcoming me home. Yes my propane fireplace is a she.😂

Lanette ... audio books and podcasts have been recommended to me as well. In my case, I need to use the captions at this point ... but its purpose is to have the brain recognize words with sounds. The goal is to not need captions or lip reading in the future. I'd consider the implant a huge success if I could accomplish that!!
Annie ... I'm glad you and your sister have a plan for now. I would continue to research the "next step" as things can change quickly and it's good to know what your options are ahead of time.
Heather ... I will be praying that your surgery is without complication and that you heal quickly and completely.
Debbie ... that is one cool meat tenderizer!
Jenn ... so sorry you fell ...
My Mom ... feeling more hopeful about her. It looks like she may be regaining the ability to be a "one-person assist" in terms of transferring. This is important when considering what level-of-care facility she needs at this time. While I think she will soon need more than one-person assistance, it might buy me some time, as we sit on a waiting list, before needing to move her into long term care. I do not want her to go back to her assisted living apartment, but with a one-person assist status, I might be able to move her into a memory care unit in the same facility as her apartment where there is more oversight and a roll-in shower (showering in the assisted living side terrorized her).
I've said this before, but I am so very discouraged by the long-term care facilities in my area. For the most part they're small, depressing, and expensive. My husband and I have been touring several places ... none of which actually have a bed for her at this time ... and they're just awful. There is one, however, that I am excited about and hope to get on their waiting list. We officially tour it on Monday (it's been highly recommended by a friend whose mom is there) ... which is also the day my mom will most likely be done with rehab.
Coming to the end of May and my weight-loss efforts have been a bust. Too many take-out meals when I was recovering from surgery and now too much mindless eating as I work through these issues with my Mom. I have not been following my fasting protocols (19:5) and I feel sluggish and out-of-control. So you know what my goals will be as we soon leave May.

Beth ~ Hugs! You have a lot going on adjusting to your new hearing devise and caring for your mom.
Heather ~ Good luck on your hip replacement surgery! Will you be going to rehab for a while?
Rebecca ~ Your kitchen looks so clean and nice. And, I really like those floors.

On me. I've started a general well-being journal. I have been tracking my health and sleep and even food. I really need to figure out my issues since no medical professional has a clue. There is no obvious link or trigger. I am leaning toward hormones. The other night, I woke up around 3am with pain. I leave heard and read that our hormone levels drop (as well as other things change) around 3am ( or 3pm for shift workers). For more than 20 years, I have been regularly waking up around 3am. So, I believe there is some truth to this.
Time for more coffee. Enjoy the day!

Have you looked into Pudendal Neuralgia?
At some point, when I have more time, I want to go to my Pelvic Physiotherapist and ask her about Pudendal Neuralgia because I think that, at last, it might explain so much.
Interestingly, Telfast (Fexofenadine Hydrochloride) seems to provide me some relief. I take 2 at night, which helps me sleep and eases some of the symptoms I now attribute to Pudendal Neuralgia.
Sometimes when it is really bad, I go with Telfast and Panadol and Ibuprofen. Fortunately, that doesn't happen very often but it used to happen on the day before my periods started, regularly, like clockwork. So yes, I think hormones are linked in there somewhere.

Fexofenadine Hydrochloride? That is an allergy med. I have some and it has never worked for my allergies. I would never have thought to try it for this. I generally avoid taking any meds unless I just cannot tolerate the pain. I have a rather high threshold for pain. I need to look up pudenal neuralgia. Thanks.1 -
Lanette--Thank you for the information.. Very interesting.2

Beth, some seasons of life just meed to be maintenance mode as far as weight loss goes. With all you have going on at the moment, I think this season qualifies. Give yourself grace.
Heather, thinking of you and sending good wishes for a successful surgery.

Beth - Glad there's more hope for your mom's situation--my heart goes out to all of you dealing with ailing/aging parents. No easy answers ever, it seems.
Last of the dried towels off the line and folded, sheets and comforter back on the bed... and just as well, as a heavy rain is showing moving in on the radar, and the skies are certainly getting darker by the minute. Wasn't supposed to rain until tomorrow, but it seems they're not accurate even 24 hours out any more... I know I crank on about it, but I could swear it used to be a little better. I can't imagine how anyone who depends on the weather to grow crops here can have any faith in the weather reports. Might as well be reading the Old Farmer's Almanac written at the beginning of each year!
Hanging clothes on the line this morning captured that amazing smell of sun-dried sheets and towels though, and it makes me happy. Took an image of that and the changes in the house outside:
More adventures in renovation:You can see in the picture at the top the siding that has yet to come down on the southeastern corner of the house - it was an ivory color once upon a time, but this climate has left it filthy and algae-laden, and it's so old now that a pressure washer will simply cut right through it. Probably 40 years old. Underneath it is more of the T-111 siding that you can see at left on the outside of Corey's sunroom and the back of the house.
We feel very lucky - the house is about sixty years old, and the stone and the wood under the siding has all been in good shape, just some minor repairs and patching. We didn't replace what's on the back of the house, just refreshed the teal paint, and then semi-matched the sunroom cladding to it. Under the siding, it's been that way all the way around. Just a little repair, a little paint, and it looks amazing and gets rid of the incredible spider highway and bug haven that siding becomes. Urk.
Ah well, time to put the last of the towels away and make a lemon basil sauce to go with chicken and rice for dinner.
Later,
Love,

Lanette - my next hip is scheduled 8 weeks to the day.
I will probably stay in 2 nights, but some people go home after one. I have a private room with TV etc, so I might as well get what I have paid for. They have to be sure I can do stairs, toilet etc.
These days, they get you moving almost straight away.
I'm having a spinal block and sedation, and it's robot assisted.
Just about to have my last snack, then it's just water.
My elder son rang me today. That is truly amazing!

So far I’ve racked up 1820.71 exercise and riding miles for my MS ride. I’m in 4th place overall but the 1st place female, not bad. I’m up to 120.91 (3 donations) 880.09 more to go.
This year they are counting exercise, running , walking, anything else using Strava, in addition to bike riding miles as far as the mileage total. That’s great for me cuz I walk a minimum of 6 miles.5 -
Got more big plants for free. Cleaned the outside of the pots, looking good.

Finally got my iPhone up and working late last night. Fortunately, I had did a backup in February, which helped a little.
Granddaughter flew home to Oxford today. We went to see her yesterday and took her to a local beach she likes after lunch. Beautiful sunny day but a strong wind was blowing from the north. Younger Grandson is home for the summer.
I have my MOT tomorrow morning. Getting an appointment is a nightmare here. It should have been done in mid April.
We are in the throes of a general election here. It’s on 4 July.
I’m sorry I have missed so much. I have read as much as I could, but comments are beyond me tonight.

here, they are now sending patients home the same day after hip replacement unless there are problems. One friend went home the same day(went in at 5Am and home that afternoon), my best friend spent one night but that was just because her BP was too low or she would have gone home the same day too.
Back years ago when dh had his done(has had 4 total hip replacements), He stayed 10 days for the first one, a week for the ones after that.1 -

Yes, it is an allergy medicine ... really surprised me that it helped.
Now, in my case, I have a lot of itching and painful tingling down my legs and feet. But the itching in particular is phantom itching. Scratching doesn't help. It's a nerve or set of nerves up in the lower back, pelvic region somewhere.
Maybe the allergy med blocks something at the nerve level??1 -
Allie - The twins from Unsellable Houses both live in Snohomish. Their office and store are both on First St. In Snohomish in the old part of town near the river. We went through Lamb and Co when we bought our place here 9 years ago.
Heather - Hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow and your doctors are great.
Beautiful day here but the cottonwood fluff is flying around like crazy and I could not spend much time outside.
