Frustrated

I have improved my diet, eat less than what I used to and cant lose weight. Dietician says that my less than 1 lb a month weight loss is good! Since Jan i have lost less than 5 lbs. My cholesterol is higher than it should be it was improving in May and despite eating little foods with cholesterol my cholesterol went up! I dont eat out, I don't eat fried foods, I have very little butter and cheese - before I had both almost daily, now i hardly touch them, I stopped eating eggs, I dont drink milk, I eat plain greek yogurt and drink unsweet soy milk, and occasionally have cottage cheese and cream cheese is a rare treat and that is it for dairy. I have almost completely gotten away from pork, eat beef in moderation, I eat pouch tuna for lunch, and chicken and turkey for dinner and rely on atleast 1 or 2 protein shakes a day. I am good with fruit intake and getting better with veges. I am over 50. I dont eat a lot of carbs occasional rice or pasta, no chips in house I am on my last bit of crackers and wont buy anymore. Dietician suggested rice cakes bought some when they are gone I wont buy any more. Not a fan of eating popcorn daily, I only use olive oil and seasonings (without salt) are a must to add flavor. Sweets have been in moderation. About the worst for me is liquid coffee creamer daily and a coffee shop latte about 2-3x's per month. I am very frustrated that my weight remains the same and my cholesterol has gone up!! I very much so dislike being overweight and the dr wont prescribe any weight loss meds because I dont have diabetes and my cholesterol isn't high enough. I have never been skinny and I was always active, I got into a rut and gained weight, now I am disappointed with myself and my confidence has tanked. I keep hoping that my efforts will pay off only to keep learning that I am constantly failing myself.

How can I get enough protein daily, not raise my cholesterol and only eat 1,200 calories a day to lose 2 lbs per week and not feel hungry.

Is anyone else having the same issues?

After reading this, my first question is do you have a food scale and are you weighing and logging everything in grams? What you’ve said and the results you are seeing don’t add up. Something is off somewhere.

Also I’m curious as to what you are eating currently. You’ve listed tons of things you aren’t. What are typical meals for the day.

Lastly what’s your height and weight. 1200 calories is really low unless you are really short and already small. 1340 are my maintenance calories at around 5 ft and 120 pounds.

and I’m going to chime in…. Sweets in moderation?

    What exactly does that mean.

I ate a pound or two of chocolate a day, along with cake, cookies, donuts, ice creams. My idea of “moderating” was half a bag a day til I started logging food and it was in front of me in black and white- two cookies is generally a serving.

You can’t count calories and slide by the seat of your pants. You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to collect and tally data.
