I'm happy that my average reduction number is the same, but I know it will slow down at some point. I've been very busy this last week. First, hubby came down with a bad cold, which later we decided it was the flu. He was quite upset because his fishing trip to Alaska is this week (he left early this morning), so I was taking care of him, helping him pack, and running last minute errands. The first thing I did, however, was run to the pharmacy to get a flu shot! My daughter here came with me. Her first child started pre-school, and she know how often kids get sick and pass it around. Thankfully I didn't get it (yet!). He left today with a mask on, and plenty of ibuprofen, Tylenol and cough suppressant. He promised to stay hydrated too. He said he was feeling 75 - 80%. There was just no way he wasn't going to go. They plan it for up to a year ahead, and pre-pay for most of it. I'm praying he'll be smart and get plenty of rest.

Sarah, have you begun back at your Bone Builders class? If so, I hope you did okay and didn't feel any strain surrounding your surgery. My mother used to always say "slow and steady wins the race", and I think that is very true when it comes to many things, especially reducing and exercise. I hope your hubby is feeling well, and Teddy too.

Lois, I think you're home from DL. I hope you're feeling good and ready to get back to your program and work. DL is a somewhat strenuous vacation . . not laying around on the beach, lol. I hope you had fun and are recovering.

Kelly, thinking of you on your vacation too. Check in when you can to tell us all about it.

I'll check back later.

Still holding at 249 - even with the DL trip. The weather was almost 90 with 60% humidity every day we were there. We got to Palm Springs at 2am, asleep by 2:45am and up at 7 to head to the park. We had a 2 hour walking tour at 1:30, and whew it was hot. I had my umbrella, a cooling towel and a handheld battery fan and LOTS of water. We checked into our room after the tour, unpacked, showered and napped before heading back to the park about 6pm. We also took that mid day break every day to get out of the heat, shower and recover. We closed the parks every night too - even tho we said we were going back early… HA always another projection, show or ride. I don't know why. We truly walked 9+ miles Friday, Sat and SUNDAY. Monday was only 5 miles before we left at noon!! Oh lordy. Monday morning, I awoke with a scratchy throat. I just did some last minute shopping while hubby ran into the park to do more rides. I had to check in so I met him at the front of Main Street and we walked back to the hotel to start packing up (10 am). I was only out about an hour, but my tshirt was soaked when we got back to the room. I travel with a small dehumidifier and in the 3 days we were there, the container was about 3/4 full…usually it gets 1/8 of an inch, but this trip was crazy. I go back with Rhea in a couple of weeks and am really hoping it cools down and the humidity drops. Hubby and I are both showing signs of a head cold. So I'm tking everything possible to alleviate the symptoms. Yes, I take vitamins as well. So glad I took yesterday off. I was able to get most of the laundry done and still rest. I had to cancel my hair appointment as well my training sessions. Hoping I feel well enough next week for both.

Ordered pho for lunch/dinner tonight, more carbs than my plan desires, drank the broth and only a portion of the noodles. And lots of hot water, warm water and tea today.

Sheesh - I know how your hubby feels - next weekend I am scheduled to go to my daughters for my goddaughter's baby shower. I hope I'm feeling better, but for that trip I won't go if I'm ill. Do not want to share this with anyone. Great job in your reduction!!! Stay focused.

Looking forward to checking back in for everyone's updates.

Well talk about going nowhere fast! I hope I can get the scale moving again soon. I did my first Bone Builders class yesterday and also walked 4 miles, with part of that being a portion of what I call my "hilly route." I am—or was—feeling much more like my old self. But then a few minutes ago, I sat down on the sofa and felt an intense pain along my lowest incision line. I stood up, felt it again; sat down, felt it again. I don't know what is up, but I hope whatever it is is something minor that will pass. Now I'm not sure about walking tonight, and I had no chance to walk today during the day. We spent most of the day preparing for, driving to and from, and being in a meeting with the certified elder care attorney. Because it was after 5 pm when we got back to this area, so we decided to go out to dinner instead of coming in and trying to cook. Then we ran a couple of errands, so the daylight got away from me. If this strange pain in my tummy allows, I'll hit the TM tonight. If not, I'll just have to accept that some days other things have to take precidence.

Sheesh, I feel so bad for your hubby and hope that he takes care of himself and keeps getting better each day so he can enjoy the trip. And I know we've talked about enjoying some time alone, and I hope you take full advantage of it. You are doing great. A half-pound a week is a good solid win for us shorties.

Lois, I hope you enjoyed your trip to DL and did not over-do. Kelly, hope everyone on your end is doing okay. I saw your brother's book promotion on FB. He is a handsome guy and looks like someone who would be fun to be around.

Well, before I go, here are my 7-day averages. They are still not up to my "before surgery" averages, but they're not too far off.
    Steps = 9,241
    Kcals burned = 1,645

I think I mentioned that I read that some people experience a reduction in their metabolic rate after colon resection surgery. I am beginning to think that I may be one of them. But if I am—then what? I can't wave a magic wand or file a complaint! So I guess I will have to just try to make whatever adjustments I can and whatever my body will tolerate.

    Two weeks ago W: 160.3 - TW: 160.6

I am kind of surprised it's up this week, as I've been killing it lately 🚶 I'm currently in a step challenge and according to Apple, over the last 7 days I have taken an average of 16,210 steps a day. 🤩 I can't remember if I told you, but my Brother recently became a certified personal trainer and now does online fitness coaching. Here is his website link if anyone is interested in seeing what he has going on Ascend Performance

He started a Steptember challenge and it has really helped me find my motivation again. I have been eating really well, drinking lots of water, walking a ton… now I just need to get my sleep under control. Last night's sleep was great, but probably only because I was exhausted from not sleeping well for 2 nights before that. And yep, Sarah - he's now on his 3rd book and it just came out. I just ordered it, so I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I have read the first 2 and he's just so motivating.

Our vacation week was good. Shawn got most of the deck built on the house. Just the rail left to do on it and a few smaller things. Hopefully the posts for the fence get dug soon, but the neighbor is taking care of setting that up so who knows. We managed to get out to the cabin from Wednesday until Saturday, and that was great. Nice to spend some time together relaxing. We also went for a few hikes and had a run in with a bear 😶 but he managed to stay away.

I'm at work right now but I'll find some time later to come back to read and reply to everyone's posts.

Oh, my gosh, Kelly—more than 16,000 steps in a day! Even if the scale does not move, getting all those muscles going and lungs expanding can only bring good things. I have to remind myself every now and then to not let the scale be my only yardstick for progress.

I developed an odd, sore pain in my lower right side last night. It's near the largest incision, so maybe it has to do with what I did in class on Tuesday. But I decided to go ahead and go to class again today and just stay mindful of that area. If it gets worse, I'll reach out to my PCP, but I mentioned it to one of the women in my class who had colon resection surgery a couple of years ago, and she said she still experiences occasional belly pains.

Well, was just checking in and need to move on. I have paperwork to get done for the lawyer and I am up to my neck in laundry to be folded. I'm also trying to get some older sheet sets ready for hubby to take to the county recycling station for textile recycling and I have a large bag of towels that I want to take to the animal shelter. I tend to keep too many things that I don't use and then don't buy some things I probably should because there's no room. (It's full of those unused items!) I know—this is such a first world problem, and I do pause to be grateful for having too much rather than not enough.

    Have a happy Thursday everyone.

Just checking in to log last night's food and check for any new posts. Also, I am totally frustrated this morning and I needed to read that advice that I gave to Kelly about not measuring progress only by the scale. I've had a couple of good days with good deficits and more movement that I was getting during my recovery, and guess what? I weigh almost a pound and half more than I did two days ago! Beginning to wonder if what I've read about weight gain once your body is no longer constantly fighting a low-grade infection applies to me. So anyway, feeling a bit cranky and I know I have to shake this.

Kelly - HOLY COW!!! Since I had to stop hiking, I only do that many steps in a day when we go to Disneyland!! You go girl!!! Thanks for the link for your brother. That's awesome he's doing sessions virtually.

Sarah - so glad you're back to your bone builders class. Your still recovering so please keep that in mind.

As I mentioned, we caught a cold while at Disneyland. I've been eating pho for the past few days and my weight is also up….I think it's the salt and possible MSG. My fingers are a bit puffy as well. I am drinking a lot of hot water, tea and room temp water. Still taking the cold meds as well. Feeling a bit better, but still have a bit to go.

Rhea and her parents may came up this weekend. We won't do any big activities. I've warned them about our cold, so they are fully informed, should they come up. We haven't seen them for a couple of weeks and Rhea begins asking to come up about that timing (she's probably wanting to play with the printer or the Cricut). I was hoping to go to my older grandson's football game tonight, but as I've mentioned, it's and hour plus drive each direction and I think that might be pushing my ability this week. I'm going to wait until his Homecoming game, which is after I come back from Rhea's Disneyland trip.

Hoping everyone has a fantastic weekend.

Well Happy Monday!!! I started my day with the dentist - super fun. My implant from 2017 became loose again and had to be screwed back in. Well….of course my implant post has a recall for failing just as mine is failing, coming unseated and then loose again. So I had to schedule to have the other side done/finished before I have surgery to remove the existing post, heal, implant a new post, heal and add the tooth. So after our trips and Rhea's bday, I will have two new implants done on the upper right and pray my lower left implant holds long enough for the right side to be usable. In the interim, it's softer and no gooey foods. So now I need to come up with new options and snacks (no more baby carrots that's for sure).

Rhea and her parents came up for a visit yesterday. Had a great time. I think I've shared with you that I had ordered cards from LovePop to be sent to her giving her clues to a surprise … She received my postcard that I had mailed from the hotel across from Disneyland. Funny - but the post mark was stamped Santa Ana, not Anaheim, so se was asking us if we knew anyone in Santa Ana CA! Her parents said she picked out the post mark on her own. She even called my daughter to see if she knew anyone in Santa Ana. I didn't dare pull it up on a map - she might have noticed Disneyland right away. Anyway four more cards are enroute to her culminating next Wednesday to tell her Grammy ad Mommy would be picking her up from school and headed to Disneyland. Haha. Yesterday we made a countdown chain for the next 12 days… she might figure out Disneyland with the next two card s- Pooh and Stitch will be writing to her..

So I also had my bariatric appt this morning. Officially down 10lbs since June 10. So doc is happy with that progress. I'm not yet feeling the reduction, but the scales are showing it. Does this mean I should buy TWO shirts of my Disney selects (ya know, just in case it magically shows and my new tops are too big… lol). That's all I've got for today. Check back tomorrow.

Lois, congrats on that 10 pounds. It's the first of more to come, I'm sure. 😊 And I realize that when I posted on Sept 3 that you must have been posting at about the same time (we seem to do that a lot) because I did not see the info about your latest trip to DL and just said that I hoped you had a good time. (No, I'm not going senile—well, maybe a little!) And I'm sorry to hear about the dental issues. Thank goodness we now have implants, but boy are they expensive and the process is not what I call fun either. I think younger people have healthier teeth because the knowledge and technology has come so far. When I was a kid, you went to the dentist when something hurt. And now that's hurting my mouth and my pocketbook. But I can't totally blame my parents for that. I have some teeth that are missing congenitally, and when I was in college the second time, I worked for an orthodontist during the day and went to classes in the evening. And this really nice man offered to do work for me for free, and I was too stupid and vain to take him up on it.

And before I go to take Bella to the vet, thought I'd share that I got up this morning and hit the scale and it's still going up. Something is going on for sure. So I declared war and told hubby that it's obvious that just getting my activity back up is not going to counteract whatever is going on and so we may not be eating the same meals for a while. This is really getting to me, ladies. I'm going to be leaning on you all to keep me from getting into a downward spiral.
