Hi everyone

my name is Lisa. I’m a 53 year old who lives in Omaha Nebraska. 4.5 years ago, I had a massive life changing medical crisis. Blood clots killed both my feet. I then got infections & I spent 8 months in either a hospital or health and rehab. I was able to be somewhat active still when in H&R by rolling around the building. Kept my weight in check. I left the facility in sept weighing 166. (With my legs on). This past February, I needed a revision on my right leg. What was supposed to be a 2-3 month “speed bump” turned into a 7 month fiasco. Between insurance paperwork mixups and drs not sending out what needed to be sent out, I became a couch potato whose depression got to an all time low. I didn’t want to do anything. It was so hard for me to get to the filtered water in the kitchen, and definitely couldn’t reach the ice. So, for 7 months straight I sat on the couch, drinking 5-7 sodas a day. (I don’t like my soda cold) I’m now over 200lbs (not fully the sodas fault….my depression meds cause weight gain & my doctor kept increasing the dosage instead of finding something else that would work better) But that 200lbs is without my legs. I’m probably going to be about 225 when I get them. I will then have to learn how to drive with prosthetic legs. I finally saved enough to buy a used van. (Needed room for wheelchair just in case). Once I master that, I’ll be using my insurance for the free gym membership. I know that this isn’t going to get going fully for about a month, but with my legs, I’ll be able to walk the park across the street from me. Or do some of my dance classes modified for amputees. But I’m definitely going to lose 50 lbs in about 3-4 months & hopefully maybe another 10-15 to get in shape again. I have 10 days to go before my journey can officially start. Then about a month before I’m driving again. And my daily gym trip happens (pool on days I don’t have a class that I can do)

if you stayed till the end, I thank you for your time listening to me. I’m looking forward to meeting new friends on here.

    Hi Lisa

Yipes, you've had quite a journey there, but I can hear your determination and am glad you are here.

You might check out the MFP "challenge' category/discussion forum - a lot of groups/teams and people post their current and upcoming challenges. It is a good way to meet other active people :)

You mentioned trying chair yoga on Monday - how did it go?

I also like chair exercise videos online - some trily are geared for people who have various limitations - think it helps to have the music and someone who has put together an overall sequence :)

I wish for you healing and happiness. Pool exercise/swimming can be super therapeutic so it's great that you have already begun.
