I am just trying to learn all I can to get the most use out of the app! I am super serious to release all this extra weight. I am 64 and having hip and knee issues (osteoarthritis) and need surgery but I want to lose weight and feel better and get the weight off of my knees for better recovery.

    Hello and welcome!

I can relate! I'm 70 now, and at this point an MFP long-timer. WIth help from the app and this online community, I lost from class 1 obese to a healthy weight at age 59-60, and have been at a healthy weight since.

I wanted to comment on your post, in part because I also have osteoarthritis (and at least one torn meniscus). Losing weight made a big reduction in frequency and severity of arthritis pain for me. I hope you'll find the same. Also true was that when I did things to get stronger, that also helped reduce pain . . . I think because muscles provided some support that took some of the stress off the bones/tendons. I hope that if you're prepping for surgery, you've been able to see a physical therapist and get some manageable "pre hab" exercises to prepare for it. Friends of mine who've been through the surgeries found that really helpful.

Wishing you success with your weight loss goals, and improvement in your overall physical well-being!
