Newbie Here!

Hi Friends!

How are your health journeys going?

I just downloaded the app and will start tracking tomorrow.

My goal is to lose 50 pounds this year. I know it’s a marathon, not a sprint, so I’m ok with losing a pound a week.

Cheers!

That is also my goal! Good luck in your journey!!! I'm new here as well. I love that you pointed out that the journey is a marathon and not a sprint and that you are ok with 1lb a week. I am as well. The inspirational quote I put on my profile popped into my head when I read your post. "A weight loss journey is not a linear thing." I am trying to keep in mind that there will be times my body will have inflammation or water retention. There will be plateaus, and days the scale just won't move alongside the days that feel great and things move in the right direction. Consistency is key! We've got this! Keep up the positivity!

    Hello and welcome!

It took me about a year to lose 50 pounds, but it was a little faster at first, and slower at the end, with around a pound a week as an average. It was quite doable, surprisingly much more so than I'd expected. I always suggest that folks adopt an easier-to-follow plan rather than shooting for a go-faster plan, so I feel like you're on a good wavelength.

The PP is right, that the process isn't linear from one day to the next, so it makes sense to assess progress based on the trend over multiple weeks instead. Perfection may not be possible for humans, but pretty good on average most of the time can deliver results, IME.

I was overweight to obese for around 30 years, then lost about 50 pounds as I mentioned. For me, the quality of life improvement was huge - more than worth the effort. I'm now around year 10 at a healthy weight since loss. There have been some mild ups and downs over that time, but all in the healthy range and the same jeans size, so I'm not complaining. 😉

If you stick with the process, adjusting your plan going forward to be more achievable in reaction to any bumps in the road that may appear, I'd give you high odds of success. I'm cheering for you!

I like that you've set yourself a concrete goal that's not just difficult, it's obtainable. You gave yourself a deadline too. Marvelous! I'm not sure what your current weight is, and I do know that a pound a week is attainable. If you ONLY have fifty pounds to lose, you can expect things will slow down as you get close. That's OK. Keep sticking to it. It's the only way.

Here's the catch; it's not even a marathon. A marathon has a finish line. You're starting on a lifelong adventure to improve yourself. Good days, bad days, and indifferent days away. Put together some good strategies on how to stay in a 500 calorie per day deficit, then make it happen. Next thing you know it will be 2027 and you can look back and say, "I did it!" Then it's time for the new goal - sustaining your loss. Sad to report that's just as hard as losing but you get a few more calories each day.

Hi all ! Yes, I feel all these comments. Lost 70-odd pounds 2 years ago. 2025 saw me creep 30 back on (sigh) so my goal is to get 50 back off. :) I'm 46 and really need to get movement back into my daily habits. Goodluck to us all !
