Hi all,
I retired July 1, 2025 and turned 68 a few weeks later. I found out in the fall that my cholesterol is extremely high. I took a statin for a bit but my hips hurt so much that I couldn't maintain my activity level. I didn't realize it was the statin, but I got off it once I figured it out.
My cholesterol had dropped fairly significantly while I was on it, but it's way up again. I'm hoping I can drop 15 pounds and improve my diet (I'm a vegetarian but I eat too many sweets). I also joined Club Pilates at the end of November. I decided to go for the unlimited membership in December and went 5 times last week, 4 times this week.
I've been fairly active much of my life and have a background in modern dance which has been a benefit in the Pilates classes. My next goal is to start running again (run/walk). I'm signed up for a half marathon in May- another reason to drop the weight since it will be so much better for my joints!
What do you do to stay active? How do you maintain your discipline? I used to be amazingly disciplined but being married sucked that out if me. I'm single again, but it's hard to keep my eyes on the prize!
Oh- I bought a Shakti mat for meditation. Has anyone else tried it? What do you think? I've used it just 3 times and I have to say, when I fall asleep, I stay asleep! But it takes getting used to!
