Lumbar Stenosis
I have recently been diagnosed with lumbar stenosis. This back problem is reducing the quality of my life - lots of pain and reduced mobility. Surgery is one option, but my advanced age and weight issues are two high risk factors. Even if the surgery (and three months of recuperation!!!!) is successful, my high weight will diminish its effectiveness. Three options I am working on - weight reduction, pain management, and exercise. Any insights would be appreciated.

Mine is as bad as it can get. DO NOT get surgery. Lose weight, strengthen core, take Meloxicam if your doc approves. Don't do things that exaserbate it.

Physical therapy may help. My husband has several compressed discs with arthritis. When he was doing PT regularly, he had a lot less pain. When he stopped doing the exercises, the pain returned.

PT will teach to alleviate the symptons however it wont fix it, unfortunately. You want a PT that has experience with this. Overall, PT is a good decision.
