Newbie Intro

After many years of high end fitness, decreased mobility from injuries, retirement and lack of motivation have combined to make my weight balloon. In the last 5 years I’ve gained 30kg, which is half my normal body weight. I am now suffer cardiac issues and more medical issues so I’ve joined the gym and decided to take control of my diet. I’ve also had to adjust my expectations, listen to my body and try to manage the peaks and troughs. Accountability normally works for me so here goes as at 63 I’m not getting any younger and 2 serious surgeries this year gives me no choice.

Hi Debora, sounds familiar I'm 63 as well, I was always very active and had a high metabolism. I weighted 97 lbs when I was 22yrs old. The doctor kept telling me I needed to gain weight believe I tried. I ate a lot and never gained weight. Now when I got pregnant with my first child I gained a 110lbs. But I lost all the extra weight and was down to about 112lbs in 3 months. By the time I hit 43 yrs old I weight 150 I'm 5'10 . Today I am at 232lbs after having several different medical issues and several surgery's over the last 10-15 years the last was cancer had to have a complete hysterectomy in 2024 and gallbladder surgery in 2025. Dealing with high blood pressure, high cholesterol now that I have gain so much weight. Not easy losing the weight being menopausal and over 60. I tried using medication but that just caused constipation. Don't get me wrong it worked I lost 40lbs in 9 months. But once I stopped I gained it back and more because I was also restricted to what I could do for over a year. So starting over again. Wishing I still had my high metabolism now.😉 I think my calorie intake needs to change but I'm at 1200-1300 a day for calories but I'v been told that is not enough. I need to rejoin my gym again.
