My health conditions sometimes prevent me from working out. My plan last week was to go Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I got sick on Wednesday afternoon, which cut my Wednesday workout, was off work Thursday & Friday, cutting Friday's work out. I had to call off work Monday so no gym. Then I finally made it back to the gym on Tuesday.
I scanned in, and went straight to the recumbent stair climber. Within 5 minutes, the gym attendant came over to me. She told me that a cardiac rehab patient asked her about me last week. He wanted to know my name. She couldn't think of my name at the time. So, he passed a message on to her to give to me.
He wanted her to tell me that he sees me in the gym struggling and working hard. He sees how hard I work and how hard I try. He told her to tell me that he is proud of me. He's proud of me for working hard and trying. In my 51 years, I think that is the nicest, most motivating thing that I have ever been told. Especially from a stranger.
I'm so used to hear negative things from strangers. They have never had an issue commenting negatively on my size, my being lazy, my being a hypochondriac, etc. It's taken me 51 years to get my mind right in that they don't know me, they don't know my health issues, the fact that 1 hard day at the gym takes 2-3 days of recovery.
The kindness of this older gentleman who used to coach Baseball and Softball, and is doing cardia rehab for his health… The kindness this stranger showed me was overwhelming. It just goes to show how far kindness can go and how it can help change someone's life.
We need to spread more kindness.
