It's Wednesday so its the middle of the week already! Today I ran my normal 5k route and did a light leg workout. Boy I was fighting my legs all morning because I forgot to take my meds in advance for my knee problems basically I have runners knee in both knees and the meds help bring down the swelling IE anti-inflammatory that I take twice a day but the only thing is it takes awhile to work. My knees were hurting today which made the run and the leg workout a bit harder then normal but...I pushed through it I only burned 556 calories total but it's alright I still pushed through the pain can't do well everyday. Hope everyone has a great day and gets a workout in!0

Way to stick with it Tim! I've experienced problems with my knees at times, but only felt it when going down steps. Luckily it passed. I probably don't push as hard as you do either, or else I'm just lucky. I do, however, have a heaping spoonful of turmeric plus black pepper in my coffee/milk nearly every morning and turmeric is known to be anti-inflammatory, so maybe it helps. I sure hope you get to feeling better.
Between the rain and noone to keep the kids, there'll be no run today BUT, I am going to stop by a local gym to see how they are set-up, etc. Depending on budget, etc, I'm looking to join up for about 4 months and make better use of the 2 hours I have free most days. Currently I run and I walk and do errands/shopping in that time. What I'd like to do is to drop my son off, RUN to the gym, and do a weight workout. The gym I'm looking at today is about 2km from his tutor, but there are others I can check-out too, and depending on time I could always go 3km out of my way first, in order to get a full run done (and on rainy days, there's the bus). I'm pretty psyched. I had just bought weight equipment for home, but since I have to do it in the living room, I must wait until the kids are in bed and then I can't be slinging loud plates around, and I end up getting pumped up and can't sleep. I'm just looking for a better solution, with my limited time. (fingers crossed)
At some point either today or tonight I'll do my lower body workout.0 -
Good Morning!
A bit grey out this morning, but we had a beautiful day yesterday so I'm good with that. Had a really great workout last night at my class. It was a full body workout but we did focus a lot of abs. I am feeling it today, lots of planks. Today I am going to attempt a run on the TM. I miss running outside, but if my calf acts up while on the TM I can just get off. If I'm 4K from home...well, I guess I do have my iPhone. lol
I've never had knee problems fortunately. Anything that I've had cause by running is in my calf. Once or twice a year I am out for a few weeks. I'm not sure if its a pulled muscle or what, but its frustrating. I am just now getting over it.
Tim - hope your knee recovers quickly!
Sherry - I read back on yesterday thread, so sorry for what happened! I am still here

Severe thunderstorm and flash flooding here. :frown: Boo! Didn't get to check-out the gym in the neighborhood. It was all I could do to get to the school to pick-up my son, carrying my 40lb big girl with ONE arm, and umbrella in the other, without sliding done the concrete hill we live on! (Sortof a workout:laugh: )
Maureen, I despise working out with lots of plank moves...but I really need to conquer the plank.
My core is in great need of some trimming and strengthening. But so far most of the weight-lifting moves I do, with my core engaged for the whole set, have been very helpful for that too (especially deadlift and good mornings--both of which are on the roster for tonight!).
Well, cuddled up in the storm with the kids, trying to help my son with his Greek homework:noway: . haha. Hope you all have an awesome hump day!!0 -
Today's saying seems very appropriate!
Tim sorry to hear about your knees. Glad you were able to get your run & leg workout in anyway.
When I started with my trainer in February I had a lot of knee problems. I couldn't do the elliptical even because something in that movement really hurt my right knee. Like Sherry stairs were usually where I had the biggest problem. Sometimes walking up or down stairs my knee would give out on me, which always gave me a little scare! My trainer started having me do a lot of strengthening exercises and my knees almost never give me problems anymore. I have to smile every morning when I'm able to walk down the stairs from the bedroom to the kitchen without having to think about it. I take glucosamine every day too.
Maureen I hope your calf cooperates! Frustrating when you want to run and something like that is holding you back. On one of the runner's groups I belong to here someone said she bought a magnesium gel that she rubs on her calves and it helped her a lot. Think she got it at a health food store. Maybe worth checking out?
The plank can be your friend.
My trainer will throw in just a 30 second plank here and there in my workout, which I've now come to think of as a recovery pose, like "oh good I just have to plank so I can catch my breath." Funny how that works. Pilates is excellent for building core strength.
As far as anyone not taking workouts seriously, I strongly believe part of that is listening to your body and being smart about it. It's not pushing through regardless of what's going on. I cut my run short on Saturday because of my cold. Instead of being mad at me, my trainer praised me for listening to my body.
I have a trainer session at 7:00 tonight, so I'm going to go do some longer cardio before. My cold has settled into just being pesky so I'm ready. Thinking I'll do run/walk intervals on the TM just to ease back into things.0 -
@FromHereOnOut - Thanks for the admin/mod let me know and I will help as I can! Never tried that combo with coffee before might have to try that out…
Great job today everyone I am so pleased with everyone's progress! My knees are still hurting me tonight but so it goes sometimes with runner’s knee some days I feel it a lot others not at all...
@ Laura6657 - I have also found that when I work out my legs at least once a week it helps a lot with my knee problems...But for me this pain and or condition does not go away the only way to minimize it is medication and keeping the leg muscles strong. I have been dealing with this condition since late 2006 and actually got diagnosed with it in Mid-2007. It’s been an annoyance since but I push though it because I know that I cannot rest it long term because that hurts it worse due to the muscles losing their strength.0 -
Hi all, I have been doing stuff around house and just about to do Nia on DVD today. Just not in the mood to go outside, its high 30's out...chilly. I have to force myself out in the winter.
I did weigh in today and lost a few pounds...yeah. Back on track! :laugh:0
