Does a calorie deficit guarantee weight loss?

a few weeks ago, I had this one week where I didn't loose anything, not even 0.1 pound - even though I'd had a calorie deficit of 500 calories everyday in the week. So I was just wondering does anybody know why? I presumed eating at a deficit would almost guarantee weight loss.

thanks for any responces in advance!

Could be a number of things. Do you weigh same time, same place, same clothes? Did you have a high sodium intake day before, bowel movement lately or start a new routine. What foods were still possibly processing in your stomach. Weight loss is not linear, so sometimes, due to many factors, you may not see scale loss all the time. Really, you're looking for a trend in loss over a few weeks time. Also, weighing and measuring your food will help ensure accuracy as well. Being 100% honest. And consistency :)

    Remember two things:
That your deficit is an estimated deficit, both sides of the equation are not precise.
Your weight fluctuates naturally due to many factors (see above response).

Track everything accurately as you can, track over many weeks, adjust calorie deficit based on actual results.

Okay, I normally am very consistent with calorie counting and weighing my foods etc, But I understand the body will fluctuate depending on factors. Thanks for the help guys!

It's also tricky to calculate exercise calorie burns, too. I am not convinced MFP accurately calculates calorie burns so divide them by 3.
