Team Beth Challenge Board

Character Description

Beth Greene is Hershel's younger daughter and Maggie's younger half-sister. She resided at a farm with her family and boyfriend, Jimmy. She sinks into a deep depression after watching her mother, half-brother and neighbors, who had become walkers and were being housed in her father's barn, get shot by Rick's group. She attempts to convince Maggie to commit suicide with her and shortly afterward, attempts it on her own by cutting her wrists in the bathroom, but eventually she changes her mind. She escapes when walkers attack the farm and kill Jimmy. At the beginning of season 3, Beth becomes a more confident and useful member of the group, and is skilled at killing walkers. She sometimes sings to entertain or comfort the group. At the prison, she is often seen looking after baby Judith. When the Governor attacks the prison a second time, Beth hides with her father and Carl in the forest, and returns to the prison when the Woodbury army retreat. In season 4, Beth has developed a relationship with one of the new prison citizens, Zach. However, Zach is bitten and killed during a supply run, and Daryl delivers the news to Beth. She appears completely unfazed, replying "I don't cry anymore." and sets her Days Without an Accident board from 30 to 0. She is put in charge in isolating the group's children to protect them from the deadly virus, and reminds Maggie of her father's instruction: "We all have jobs to do." When the Governor arrives at the prison with Hershel and Michonne as hostages, she is horrified when she witnesses her father's death, and escapes the prison with Daryl.

    Week One Challenge Feb 3-8

As a member of Team Beth you need to be prepared if you want to survive in the Zombie Apocalypse, even if you are currently alone with Daryl. Cardio, weight training and balanced eating are all important aspects of staying strong, fast and uneaten.

    Cardio:*
You will begin this first week by completing a minimum of 180 minutes of cardio, which should include at least 30 minutes of combat related exercise such as a martial art like kickboxing.
    Weight Training:**
To preserve lean muscle mass while eating in a deficit, or to gain muscle while eating at maintenance or a surplus, you should start a weight training routine if you haven't already. Weight train or resistance train a minimum 30 minutes 3 times a week.
    Food Intake***
Although food is hard to come by in the apocalypse, you still need to fuel your body properly. Stay within your set calorie goals, maintaining a weekly average. That means you can have a cheat day and go over, as long as you have other days to make up for the surplus. Ideally you should get 1 gram of protein per lean body mass and .35 grams of healthy fats per total body weight. Set your calories and macro targets if you haven't done so already.

Complete the above challenges and send a message to your team captain by Midnight Central Saturday February 8th. The message should include the following:
    1. A short summary of your goals for the duration of the challenge, including your starting stats.
    2. Total Cardio minutes completed out of 180. You will recieve one point for completing the minimum. Completing extra minutes will contribute to your chances at MVP.
    3. Total Strength Training minutes completed out of 90. You will recieve one point for completing the minimum. Completing extra minutes will contribute to your chances at MVP.
    4. Whether or not you stayed within your weekly calorie goal. You will recieve one point for staying at goal.

Your totals will be added to the rest of your team's and with Beth's kills from the December 1st Mid season finale (0) see http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1162909-episode-recap-season-4-part-1-finale and then the total will be divided among the number of team members. Team with the highest average number will win the week and members get to decide on and impose a punishment exercise to all of the other teams, which all players must complete, except the immune MVP's. Winners, new challenges and punishment exercises will be posted on this thread on Monday Feb 10th.

Don't forget to watch the show on Sunday Feb 9th and root for Beth to kill as many Walkers and living enemies as possible. Your team will get 1 point for each Walker kill and 2 points for each living enemy kill to be applied to your team's scores next week.

    Week 2 of challenge:Feb 10-15

This week, Michonne took the game in zombie kills with over 20. Carl was the next big point earner, clearly in defiance of a half dead Rick. Previews show Beth in next weeks episode (along with hunky Darryl) so there is hope she will do some major zombie killing next week. She lost her father and cant find her sister, she has anger issues to work through. Since we do have Valentines Day this Friday it seems only appropriate that we incorporate an exercise into our routine for the week that follows the holiday theme. Beth hasnt really been a warrior up to this point so she needs to build up some strength if she is going to survive without the others to protect her. We will be incorporating Bow and Arrow exercises to help her and you build up some arm strength and work on your core. 150 of them to be precise. You have all week to get them in, and if you do more than the minimum, that is awesome!!!

You dont have to do them all at once, you dont have to have a resistance band, although it does help. A large towel or a jump rope work just as well to simulate the resistance you should have when you do the exercises.

To do the bow and arrow stretch - You stand just like you were holding the bow. One arm straight out and level with your body. I like to do these sideways, but a proper stance is facing forward. You should have the resistance band held in both hands and use the hand not held out straight to pull back on the band until you form a straight line with your arms. Stay tight to your body when you pull back and keep your shoulders back, you should get better resistance this way. The band should be short enough to cause resistance in your shoulders but not enough to where it will be painful to pull all the way back. Hold it for a couple seconds and bring your arm back over to the straight arm. This is an exercise that will require you to switch arms to do both sides, so you will actually be doing 300 of these.

Just a reminder you still have 90 min of Strength to do for the week and your Cardio has increased to 190 min. Try to get some combat training in that cardio. Dont forget to watch your nutrition each week. Your out of the prison and food is scarce.

There will be punishment exercises - Mika and Lizzie will decide what those are. They have to be completed like all the other exercises.

Remember to share with your teammates your exercises to give them ideas on what they can do and to keep each other motivated.

Don't forget to check in SATURDAY by midnight CST. Those that don't check in will have to join the zombie hoard unless you have already checked ahead of time with me.

    Punishment Exercise has been decided!!

    50 Burpees

When you turn in your scores for the week, let your team captain know how many you did. You must complete the exercises in order to get a point for Strength Training.

Here is this week's punishment exercises. Team Michonne would like us to do this 4 minute "Bring Sally Up" Squat Challenge, 5 times this week.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CswK7e_Bep8
If you can't access the video, it is 4 minutes of regular squats, but holding in the squat position for a full 3 seconds before rising and squatting again.

    Week 3: Feb 17-22

This week is about forgiveness and never giving up hope as you lose track of your friends and family. You never know if they are out there somewhere. Beth has clearly NOT given up proving her sister is still out there. She was crazy determined to get on the road and find everyone, even leaving the safety of Daryl's protection behind when she didnt think he was moving fast enough. But we know she still has alot to learn about tracking and defense so she still needs Daryl. In honor of that, this week Team Beth will be helping out Team Daryl. While we know Beth has alot of arm strength already from always holding Baby Judith, its time she learned some additional skills to help Daryl fight. We are adding 10 mins more of strength to equal 100 mins and those ten minutes should be devoted to ARMS. These 10 min will then be donated to a player on Team Daryl as a thank you to all their help keeping you alive. You will need to visit the other teams Talking Dead Thread and find someone who could use the help. Make sure to let your captain know who it will be. Keep talking with your partner for the week to let them know you have finished helping them out. Use these extra 10 mins during the week building up your arms - dumbbells, pushups, shadow boxing (or actual), bow and arrows, etc .

Cardo: 190 mins (including 45 mins of combat)
Diet: will remain the same for the next 6 days
Strength: 100 mins total with 10 mins donated to Team Daryl.
Those 10 mins must be about ARMS.

Remember to talk to your teammates, share the exercises you are doing so they have some additional ideas and talk to the team you are helping out. You help them, they will help you. Its the only way to survive in the new world!!!!!

Week Four Challenge Feb 23rd - March 1st

What we learned from the show this week was that some strangers are enemies and some appear to be friends and may help you on your journey. The top four highest scoring teams of this week's challenge (which will be announced next Monday) will get to choose Abraham, Rosita, Eugene or Tara to add to their team and have that character's kills added to their team's scores for the rest of the challenge starting with the March 1st episode. Winning team chooses first and so on.

Continuing with the sharing and caring theme, Michonne shared with Carl her some of her deepest and personal past. This week I would like all of you to share something about yourselves on the team thread. Whether there is something we don't know about you that is kind of cool or just how you got your health and wellness/fitness journey started. Let's learn something new about each other this week.

Rick was given orders to rest and recuperate at least one more day. This turned out to be a very un-restful and stressful time under the bed. He also needs a good core to sit still and keep quiet. Time to work on resting/relaxing and core work. This week for your strength, I would like you to do 30 mins of your strength devoted to core work. You can do yoga, planks or any balance exercise that will help strengthen your personal core. I would also like you to spend 5-10 mins each day devoted to relaxing and resting your mind and body. If you do yoga, you will accomplish both task in one work out.

Cardio: Continue with the required 190 mins of cardio this week(45 mins of combat)
    Strength: 90 mins
    Punishment: to be determined
Food: 6 days of your food/nutrition goals

Beth looks like she is getting tougher from what we can see in next weeks previews. Let's hope for big kills next week.
Filling in for TJ this week guys, PM me if you have any questions. TJ is subjected to change this challenge if she chooses.

    Week 5: March 3-8

This week we got a peek into Daryl and Beths lives. We saw them break down, we saw where they came from and we saw them literally burn the past down so they could move forward. Beth says to Daryl, " Stay who you are now, not who you were" This can mirror our own lives as well. Last week we all opened up about our past and told where we came from and now it's time to focus on our goals. This is now week 5 and we are half way through the challenge. Remember your goals for the challenge? Where are you with those goals? Beth showed that she has grown and survived and I believe you are all growing and capable of reaching your goals and its time that you pushed yourselves a little farther. Cardio is 250 mins this week and I know you can all do it!

Daryl got a bit crazy with the golf clubs this week and showed us that you can get a good work out with golf. Here is a work out you can do for fun and it will help you with your strength or cardio for this week. It is an optional exercise.

    http://www.fitnessblender.com/v/full-length-workouts/?str=golf&time_min=&time_max=&cal_min=&cal_max=

This week you will turn in :

    Cardio: 250 mins
    Strength: 90 mins
Food: average calorie goal for the week x/6
Punishment: out of 5 days x/5

In the zombie apocalypse you have to be prepared for the unexpected. I know this is a huge jump in your cardio, but you can all do it. And you have amazing teammates that will help you if you cant reach your goals.

    Week 6: March 10 - 15

This week focuses on two groups: Daryl and Beth, then Sasha, Bob and Maggie. The groups face two choices, move ahead or stay put. Daryl seems to be getting pretty comfortable with Beth and is ready to stay put and see what comes to them. In return, Beth is taken and Daryl is alone until he finds a new group...the men that chased Rick from the house. Maggie is dead set on moving forward and Bob feels like he belongs for the first time. Sasha is ready to stay put and not risk her life anymore for others. Maggie pushes on by herself and Sasha tries to settle down and they both end up alone. In the end they decided that being together and moving forward is the best decision after all.

This is a parallel dynamic with two different thoughts. Beth said to Daryl, "There are still good people in this world" While Sasha says to Bob, "We get warnings and the odds are against us". Seems like Beth is hopeful while Sasha is practical.

We are going to split our group into two this week. Team "H" for the hopefuls and team "P" for the practicals. We are going to compete with each other with in the group and the winning teams points will be the only points that count at the end of the week for the overall team checkin. I will be looking at cardio, strength, number of punishments (if we have to do them), food goals and over all participation on the board. Punishment exercises will be a great way to challenge each other within the group. Dont do just the minimum - try for as many as possible to out score the other half of the team.

Here are the teams, I tried to make them as even as possible based on prior weeks totals:

    Team H: MarieAmethyst, TiffytVS, Gambrell104

Team P: Kmoiregreen, Maphammonds, Bucky83 (not sure she is still participating)

This week cardio is back to 190 mins, Strength is 90 mins and food again is x/6 and punishment x/5(if that's the format)

We will have one winning team to represent us.

Beth was taken in this episode - do you think this will affect her hopefulness later on in the season? Assuming they find her?

    Week 7: March 17 -22

Everything works out the way its supposed to...

That was the main theme of this horribly sad episode! Carol is back and its clear she was taking point on this little group, watching over them all as they slept and making the hard choices that no one should have to make. We know Carol lost her daughter Sophia because she thought she didn't have a mean bone in her body and because of that, Carol never taught her to protect herself. She tried to do the exact opposite with Lizzie and Mika, without realizing that Lizzie was already beyond saving and giving her a weapon just put everyone around her in danger. Lizzie talked to walkers like they were real people and seemed to care more for their health and well being than she did for those living around her. Mika understood that walkers weren't people, but she just didn't want to hurt anything, living or dead. The most valuable thing those girls taught the adults was that Everything works out the way its supposed to and that we are who we are.

This was even more apparent when Carol and Tyreese were having their heart to heart and she almost confessed to killing Karen. If she had, there is no doubt Tyreese wouldn't have been able to forgive her. But because the confession came after Lizzie and Mika's tragic end, he was able to understand that Carol is someone who puts the whole groups safety above her feelings for individuals. Instead the confession comes after and he realized these decisions are hard for her, but she does them for the greater good. We know Tyreese finds it hard to kill walkers, so he has to understand that killing the living is even more difficult.

This weeks episode was all about being strong, making the hard decisions and soldiering on. Carol said, "Fight, don't give up and change". As hard as it is, we also need to fight and change our lives. So this weeks theme will be "FIGHT"

    Cardio - 200
Strength - 90 - The only difference is, 60 min MUST be combat training of some kind. (Kickboxing, boxing, etc)

3 weeks left in this challenge and we need to fight to get to our goals. This is a strong team and Im sure wherever Beth is, she NEEDS strength!! So push yourselves hard this week. You have minimums, but how much farther beyond those goals can you get????!!!!

    Week 8: March 24 - 29th - TWO WEEKS LEFT!!!!!

This weeks episode appeared to focus on missions and reasons. The small Abraham group is definitely mission based, being that they need to get the red neck doc to Washington to "save the world". Glenn was reason oriented and it's to find Maggie. Tara started out mission oriented, she was trying to make up for her part in the prison destruction, but by the end of the episode she changed to reason, meaning now that Glenn had Maggie back, she could focus on the greater good. Darryl's new group seemed to be reason based, being that staying together is always better. However, we find out that they are also on a mission and that's to find hunt down Rick for killing their friend at the house. Meanwhile, Rick/Michone/Carl seem to be falling on happier times with their mission to Terminus, unaware of the danger following them. Maggie and Glenn are the first group to arrive at Terminus. What this holds for them is anyone's guess at this point.

This week groups will decide as a team to add one exercise that they must do to qualify as finishing their strength training for the week. You decide the exercise, I will decide the reps. You need to decide today so you have plenty of time to get them done.

    Cardio - 200 min
Strength - 90 min (including the exercise of your choosing)
    Nutrition 6/6
