Shoe lace knots for running?

I recently got new running shoes, and when I run in them my heel slips a bit and I lose feeling in my toes. Does anyone have any links or advice for how to tie them to make it looser by my toes and tighter towards the top of the ties?

Sounds like your shoes don't fit...

Take them back and buy shoes that fit.

I just got them (and was fitted for them and everything) and I've only run in them once, so I'd like to try a few suggestions first before I possibly exchange them.

Wear two pair of athletic socks. Cut the toes of one pair to make room for those and the extra pair will fill in the heel. Sorry no advice on shoe tiing. I think you should return them, and tell the person that fitted them the issues you are having. Good luck!

If I return them for a bigger size, though, won't that just make the heels slip more? Sorry, I'm kind of new to this!

    I'm a fan of the "runner's loop"

This is my first post so I hope it is useful! I had to buy men's trainers (I'm a woman) because my feet are so big, hence they are a little loose around my ankle. The lady at the running shop I went to (sweatshop) did tie them incorporating the top two holes for me, making extra loops with the laces. It's hard to explain, but you can google -howtorunamarathon.net how to tie your shoes. Sorry I couldn't post a link, it's not letting me for some reason.

Well, I think there is an issue with the shoe fitting and the person that sold them to you needs to know what is going on and maybe can advice you on what to do. No worries, I just think your best bet is to go back to the source and ask them for help.

I am picky about my running shoes and will take forever to find a pair I like.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to try running today with 2 pairs of socks and a different knot and see what that does. I wouldn't be able to return them until next week anyways, so I have some time to test things out.

Sounds like a plan, happy running today. Let me know how the two pair work out for you:smile:

I'm not really a fan of the 2 pairs of socks idea. Seems like a sure way to get blisters when you add mileage. If they're that loose, take them back.

It might be worthwhile to note that running shoes are supposed to be a little loose, not so that your foot slips around, but def not tight. One of the biggest mistakes new runners make is over-tightening their shoes.

The runners loop works well for holding a properly fit shoe to your heel a little better. New Balance and Merrell have the extra hole that nobody ever uses that is perfect for creating the loop ... come to think of it, I learned how to do the loop from the lacing instructions that came with a pair of NB.

Two pair worked perfect for me when I played basketball. If it doesn't work out she can try something else.

We're talking running, not basketball. Whole different set of issues and two pairs of socks is storing up problems for further down the line.

The shoes don't fit. Go back to the shop where they were fitted and get some advice on either how to fit them properly, or a pair that do fit properly.

I suggested that she go back to the source as well and ask for advice on how to fit them properly.

I have done both running and basketball. I know the difference. I was only trying to suggest something that would be a quick fix until she can get back to the store.

I just got back from my run, 3.1 miles in the snow! I only wore one pair of socks, but I just loosened the laces towards my toes and then tightened them at the top and it turns out that's all I needed to fix my problems. Welp. I appreciate everyone's advice though!
